Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

Will he still let the big guys dribble the ball down the court outside his drills...hopefully at least retains the pool for young guys like rj and karl...

But certainly chots teams premium for physical conditioning and physical drills are there but the [roblem is theres no more young guys left..

"Si coach Nenad, pinasok sa national team yan at the start of the year," said Antonio. "Si coach Jong andiyan din. So we will probably have them. Hindi ko pa alam kung may isasama si coach Chot from TNT."

Antonio himself is also back with Gilas, reclaiming his old post as team manager in liue of Gabby Cui, who will remain with TNT."

Hope there will be a continuation at least

Public acceptance of Chot Reyes as New Gilas HC depends if he can win both games against South Korea later this month. We haven't lost to SK in our home soil. If he can win both games then many pinoys will have a change of heart and start believing that he is the right man for the job. But lose even one game against SK then the hate will continue or even intensify. Much more if Gilas gets beaten badly.

I hoped Caloy would stay as a development coach, but Nenad might be a good addition. Hope he can have the same impact that Tab did in 2013-14, especially against SoKor.

-Estonian League Coach of the Year (2009)
-3× New Zealand League champion (1994, 1998, 2007)
-Estonian League champion (2009)
-Estonian Cup winner (2009)

Damn that decision to replace coach Tab with Chot Reyes!

Just when Gilas is starting to gain traction with those 2 wins over Phi basketball's traditional tormentor South Korea & that "moral" victory against Serbia.

This is the problem with Phi basketball, it has been going circles throughout the years

I would be happy if Chot can split those 2 games vs. Korea this month

a lot has been said about Yes Man Panlilio having his pawprints on this but let's not forget the grey elephant in the room which is the PBA, Chot was quoted that those who met with him were MVP, Yes Man and Ricky Vargas!!!! looks like the PBA is still salty that not only have many of the blue chippers - who just happen to be Gilas cadets - have decided to take their act to Japan (Dwight, Thirdy, DeLianos, KMark, Kobe) but that they've also lost established PBA stars in Parks and Kiefer. maybe they're pinning the blame on Tab for encouraging the cadets to gain exposure and experience outside the Philippines hence he was given the boot.

Seeing the Boomers include 3 players from the B league (Kay, Brandt, and Vague) in their ACQ pool really makes me question if this is a player availability issue. Like always, there will be a B-league FIBA break for this window, plus our corronavirus guidelines have changed (2 day negative RT-PCR test done within 48 hours before their departure from abroad for fully vaccinated Filipinos starting Feb 1), which really makes way for the inclusion of our B-league guys.

I think Noyce was right when he said that Tab's wanting to use B-league players might have been the straw that broke the camel's back.

Nenad being part of Chot's staff plus Coach Jong being one of the assistants is a promising development. All I am saying is our B league guys should be available for this window.

in all likelihood we will be creamed, Chot doesn't even have a team yet for starters unless TNT will be the one representing the Phils LOL

Nenad was the Tall blacks coach when Gilas played them in 2013 in NZ.

he's strictly a coach an X nd O guy like Jong , no motivation speaches etc

Ah so sbp were that close to sign nenad and negotiations fell through?

Maybe he is being groomed to be the next coach, a true long term coach, even after Coach chot. He is just being there to learn and observe Pilipinas basketball for now. Maybe he is Coach Tab choice to be the next coach , since Coach Tab is getting really old and wants to relax more and just coach non pressure college games as a hobby, not the national team with so much pressure and very tiring.

better yet is nenad an "active consultant" ? :) maybe Gilas is doing a TNT just to appease the PBA bigwigs

Goes to show how far they're willing to go to keep those stars. Theory is, they probably wanna make sure that our most promising gems are 'pang-PBA lang,' even if it's at the cost of maximizing the potential and development of those gems. Come on, how about you make your own stars from the 3rd-tier prospects? That would make for a great story.

Look at Thirdy, he's become an impact player for San-en, and has upped his FG efficiency. Shows his improvement. Kai has turned himself into an NBL-level contributor, although he has a ways to go before becoming a positive impact player. Kemark, remains to be seen. But you can't go wrong with going abroad.

well, Nenad is already 56 turning 57 this year. if that's the case pala, we should opt for either Paul Henare or Mark Dickel.

IMHO I think it was the domino effect of Gilas cadets going to the BLeague spilling over and encouraging PBA players with "lifetime contracts" to follow suit LOL, which really irked the PBA. I'm sure they can live without the cadets (they even threatened them with a ban) but to see players under contract or with recently expired contracts jumping ship is a different story.

Long term coach until politics gets in the way....

Again.
