Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

  • Thread starter Thread starter IPC2
  • Start date Start date
I still can't accept that we've given up on our young guns and Tab for Chot and these players. I can't get excited about players I know have limited potential and possibly are pang PBA lang.

It really hurts for me that this thing happened. I was very happy that we are now stepping up in terms of developing players last year then this happened. As a basketball fan, nakakapanghina.

With all the problems we've had lately honestly this, Kai, and the other young Pinoy imports helps keeps my mind off the negative things. And they had to ruin everything. Now watching those games kinda feel like meaninglessness now knowing they'll probably won't get the called up or be given limited exposure in our NT. It's back to boy drama and his favorite players.

Yeah, this bullshit took all the excitement I had of seeing our national team. I watch because I want to see the young guys grow, which we have the opportunity to do for this series of windows.

Tangina naman. I hope Chot proves our fears wrong, pero 'di ko na alam.

Hope this ain't lip service.

Reyes: We want to continue working on the younger players, the majority of the players that we identified back in 2018.

Coach Chot said this in an interview

LMFAO on the interviewer saying there are many that was happy and excited that chot will be the gilas coach again. Plastic.

This is where Filipinos are good at - sugar coating. This is the reason why they got easily hurt when Tab real talked them.

I do think the Gilas cadet bigs are better than the bigs of the past.

WAIT.

One Topic Discussed in that video is:

Our Players Availability.

Looks like we are getting trouble on getting the services if our best players playing overseas. And to add, pba and uaap would start too???

Is it true that only 10 players available and present there in Coach Tab's Gilas pool.

This will go back to: Short Preparation.

We didn't win any in the OQT. We did surprise Serbia with a challenge but sucked against DomRep. Anyway, Tab as a coach for FIBA tournaments is better than Chot, no question, but it is what it is. Probably, MVP's hand was forced to move since the PBA doesn't want to lend players to a Baldwin coached Gilas. Besides, we're not even spending a penny here, so who are we? Of course, we can complain, but to withdraw support to your NATIONAL TEAM all because you don't like the coach is very childish.

ok it was AQC, not OQT.

we are angry at the coach and do not like him at all because this is the 3rd time that this coach USURPED the position (Toroman 1x, Tab 2x). is this still NATIONAL interest?

also semantics, how can it still be said to be a NATIONAL team when it is of CORPORATE interest rather than what's good for the basketball program of the country? it's rather a club team which is just permitted to place the "Pilipinas" name on the jersey.

You haven't even seen his lineup. Remember, the last time he coached in the world cup, there was plenty of SMC and players from independent teams. It's too early to shoot your gun.

It's not just the SMC and MVP teams. It's also the positions. I mean, majority of the quality FIBA-sized eligible wings we have are not in the PBA. And Chot might resort to 3-guard lineups again. I'm kinda concerned about that. Plus, this should be a development window ideally. But with the UAAP season in coming and the PBA season in full swing, man.

I'm just hoping that Chot learns that he has to tweak his style so that he can succeed internationally. He has to incorporate elements of what Tab left behind.

I will still support our national team. I'm just not that excited anymore after SBP made this change.

I hope in the next window, younger players will be prioritized, because they're the reason that my hopes are up for Gilas. Collegiate season is over by then anyways.

Kaohsiung is the number one team in T1 League. I watch T1 every weekends and I love Brendan Joyce's work in offense and defense there. He knows how to use Brickman and Hu Longmao to the team's advantage.

yup the team of Brickman and hu long mao, taiwan leagues defensive may make our grandfathers score 20 but they have interesting offensive schemes

Actually, T1 League is more physical than I would have thought.

The core of the TNT for the first window. Mikey Williams or Angelo Kouame as the naturalized player?

We all knew chot loves to have surplus of guards and undersized wingmen in his roster.
But now that Gilas has the upgraded height, he would probably have plays that’s tailored for bigmen.
Kiefer and bolick would be his favourites for the point guard spot. Lol at chot’s 23 for ‘23

I do hope that Chot does devise plays taileored for bigmen, not just making them sit in the corner or in the dunker's spot waiting for a drop-off pass. I hope there is low-post action for Kouame, Balti, and Carl, and some high post action and rim-running for Kai.

And Chot needs to upgrade his coaching staff, im hoping he could hire a foreign coach with fiba experience focusing on defensive game plan. But not possible coz he has josh and aris as his asst coaches lol.

According to Coach Chot, he doesnt know what kind of system yet they will be implementing. They need to gather coaching staffs and see who are available players.

As if we dont know that he will use DDO. Hehe.
Maximizing Our 1V1 Skills again. Lol.

But like other posters said, There should be some tweaks in coach chot system.

I think and hope there would

but kita mo yun size disadvanatge ng locals nila..

Yeah. That's why they have 3 world imports, 1 asian import, and naturalized player - to compensate this shortage to the dislike of some Taiwanese fans.

The tallest local players there are around 6'6-6'8. Seldom you see a 6'10 or taller Taiwanese player. On average, the range of guards and wings is between 5'9 to 6'4.

I hope Jong, Caloy, and Sandy stay on the coaching staff. They've been there already, Jong from the start. I hope they get through to Chot the message that we need to focus on developing the young players, especially in the following windows.

This window results will be a little unfair for Coach Chot imho.

Our Best players are UNAVAILABLE. either they are in overseas league, or in their college teams.

Pba will start also. So no choice but to hugot system.

One advantage of DDO is it is a simple system, and no complications. Easy to learn in short prep.

Dont get me wrong. I like Coach Tab. I hoped he stayed. But we cannot do anything about it anymore.

Yeah, it is so simple that it can be neutralized by zone defense.

And Chot, historically, has no plan B against zones. I hope he learned something in his matchup with San Miguel (which zoned a lot).

I do think the Gilas cadet bigs are better than the bigs of the past.

Let's talk about them 1 by 1.

1. Junmar Fajardo - Good Postup Player and Rebounder. Too slow footed. Not a good pnr defender

2. Japeth Aguilar - Mobile and Athletic. Below average IQ that time. And too soft.

3. Ping - Great Motor, Pure Hustle, Excellent defender. Lacks size, and offensive skills though.

4. RDO - Stretch Big, Can Post, Physical. But sometimes too slow to defend quicker players in the SF/PF spot.

Hmm. Yeah. I think

Kai, AJ, Baltazar and Tamayo are better/will be bettee than them as a Quartet Big
