Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

I hope this isn't goodbye to Carl Tamayo and Justine Baltazar developing as our 3 knowing Coach Chot's incessant love for ultra small ball.

To be blunt, I don't even consider Chot's style small ball, as he just puts out 3-guard lineups while retaining 2 bigs. My reference point for small-ball is the 4 and 5 positions, as in, the 4 is a wing or even a guard, and the 5 is a wing, or can play 4.

For example, a 3-guard lineup with Tamayo and Kouame doesn't count as small-ball, but a lineup with Navarro or Oftana at 4 and/or Tamayo, Erram, or Baltazar at 5 is small-ball.

I can only speculate, but I feel like Chot was brought back to be a "unifying" coach for the PBA and the SBP.

Which makes me wonder? Which PBA players do we absolutely NEED anyway? Several of our key-players are out in Japan and Kai is in the NBL. I can only see Bolick and Wright... who are both rumored getting multiple offers overseas.

The only positive I can think of Coach Chot right now is he is a fan of Kai. So maybe he can use Kai as a modern big (or maybe ala baltche when Kai is in his prime). Other bigs like AJ, I hope they get involve in offense. Not only abangers

But the Wings will be a question mark. Will he continue to develop Balti and Tamayo as Wings?

For sure, he will get pba guards to fit his system.

Troy, Erram, and Pogoy are a given.

No Carl Bryan Cruz please.

Jayson? Sure pero only as a last resort kung wala talagang available na PG.

We DON'T NEED PBA players. There are already Pinoy pros that are playing overseas. We only need two PBA players, that's it.

I agree, my 2023 wishlist did not include any PBA player. I am just thinking of a possible reason why Chot is back. Feels like the PBA is pulling some strings. I just don't think MVP will invest so much money just to fumble like this. I can't think of a way to justify Tab stepping down.

how will chot use ange? go? navarro?

he doesn’t know how to use them.. he’s not known on handling cadets players. and he’s not known on developing players..

egos got hurt from the bayan ng superstars league when they saw the young NT almost beat serbians and sweep koreans in ACQ and a 6-0 record..

Not only that. The mass exodus of young players to foreign leagues hurt them further.

It doesn't bode well for their future as guys like Tamayo and Balti will likely get offers too.

If ever Coach Chot brings in the PBA players then he better goddamn win. This window was supposed to be for developing our young cadets for 2023 at hindi para mag-pasikat ang PBA. This would be an absolute embarrassment if they lose or even... god help us.. get blown out yet again by Korea. Not only it would be embarrassing for the PBA yet again but it'll be a crucial waste of time instead of using it to develop our young guys.

He doesn't know how to use big men PERIOD.

Exactly, Carl, Kouame, and Baltazar will just stand around and wait for drop-offs, putbacks, or kickouts. They're reliable low-post options. Don't take that away.

Actually, he can use Go as a stand-still shooter. But come on, he can shoot off screens. Chot doesn't have that set.

Inhale. Exhale.

Repeat.

calm yourselves guys

Because the qualifiers are supposed to be THE opportunity to develop these young players.

Bigs like Lepalam, Chiu, Rangel, and Carino need these games for their betterment. Now it's looking very likely they will be benchwarmers with older guys like Troy and Erram taking their minutes.

Also, who the fuck is supposed to be Ange's reliever? I don't see Chot gambling on Chiu considering he sparingly used a young Junemar in 2013 as back up for Douthit.

Probably the return of Terrence Romeo?? Who knows ganyang types ng guards hilig nun, won’t be surprised if Juan GDL is given the nod over Abarrientos and Belangel

Navarro is not a bigman. He is a wing who knows how to defend the perimeter and hustles alot.

Exactly which is what worries me because he will be forced to play as a PF under Chot.

Chot can go fuck himself if he ever does this.

Navarro was clutch against our second Korea game when he found an open Baltazar during a broken play.

I don't see that every happening under Chot.
