Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

Justin Arana's passport issue will held off him to play in Japan.. If no offers after that baka mag PBA draft nalang daw sya....

Possibly Gilas draft will take him.. His skillset, height and length that Gilas badly need, especially in FIBA qualifying windows....

I've been keeping an eye out for Arana. I hope he can go Gilas before going to the PBA. He could be developed into a versatile forward, like what Baltazar and Tamayo have become.

He might turn out to be a poor man's Baltazar, hopefully, or maybe better.

The Gilas team shouldve played the pocket Filbasket, heck should participated in MPBL invitational... Politics come along the way..

Contrary to everyone here ah... Ray Parks is more of a system player than Dwight yes if tab Baldwin system ang basehan, but that doesnt mean Dwight Ramos isnt a good system player. Parehas sila, Dwights size will be handy for us..

Hi Reamily could you expand on this? Medyo ignorante ako sa current events hehe

Having both Parks and Dwight will be big for Gilas campaign. Both 6'4, team player, can play without the ball, can play 1, 2 and 3 positions, and can play defense. Do i need to say more? Having both of them in Gilas is big.

This. IMO the Japan vets of Kiefer, Thirdy, Dwight and Parks should be in the team. Those guys can contribute without needing to score and are perfect for Tab's system.

That's a solid 1,2,3 spot rotation, if we were to add a shooter to the 4 , who would that be ? Heading

Then at 4, 5 , (some playing combo forward minutes )

Carl, Baltazar, Kouame , Kai

We have arrived where most of our national team members play in overseas leagues, this is how it's supposed to be for all world class teams

I believe that 9 man rotation can win Gold in the 2022 Asia cup

Add Tuffin to this list. I will surely love his 3 and D presence in Gilas. 7 out of 12 players are pro players overseas.

One of the main things with that core 9 rotation is not only are they the Philippines top players, but 8 of 9 with exception of Parks (played for Tab 2016 OQT), played with Tab's system for this current vesion of Gilas

To minimize disruption of chemistry and to provide continuity my 10th to 12 th men picks would be original core players , Go, Nieto and Navarro

All sports scribes is barking on pba like hell and barking on pba players going to Japan, but you never hear them say something about the Gilas cadets in freezer mode (or in just training mode" not all of them will benefit with no real games long term.. look at the King Abdullah cup.. di masustain yun momentum sa clark bubble because of lack of real games

So of the 9 man core I mentioned it's Kouame, Baltazar and Navarro who are inactive,
Note we will have games for them prior to 3rd window

Here is the thing as we're 1 year away from 2023 World cup, you want to be playing games with the core that will actually be playing in the world cup. So really it's useless to play games without the B league Gilas players

That's why Navarro and Isaac Go should be allowed to play for their respective PBA teams or, if not, let them play overseas like Jordan Heading. They need actual games to improve. This is the same point of concern with Kai - playing only 6 real games in a span of two years.

Thirdy and Kobe are playing in scrub teams, JGCL and Javi are rotting in the bench, do you want these guys to be the core of team by 2023 without them playing nt games to compnesate their unimpressive b league showing?

Again the tunnel thinking we only think on Gilas cadets what about Navarro Isaac Go nietos Suerte, Rangel Bullanadi and company we will just let their pro careers rot (see Garvo lanete who lacks mental toughness (that you get playing in pba and games that pays your livelihood) because we just want them to hid them from scouts.. come on mamon theres a reason why heading forced himselt to play so as dwight .. Mabuburo sila dito

Pero guys like sayson are using their superlatives to bark on pba...pero yun totoong nanga ngailanagn ng tulong ayun wala

And i forgot ronald Pascual..living tedtatment that you just dont overstay in amateurs

Ray Parks Jr. can play the 1, 2 and 3 position. And also he is a better ball handler, playmaker, scorer, shooter and slasher than Dwight. Still, I'm looking forward for Kiefer(point guard), Rayray(sg), Dwight(sf) as Gilas' starting unit for future Gilas tournaments..

Kobe, and Gomez bros are not WC prospects.
Thirdy is at least getting reps ...

There is a decent number playing overseas that are both talented and getting decent playing time to form a core for 2023

The core players currently playing in the UAAP , should have the UAAP and 2nd window as reps early in the year before they come together with the Gilas playes playing overseas in May to August.

Honestly the PBA special draft gilas player are not core, and not really important . Guys like Go, Nieto , Navarro are mere support players who know Tab's system well enough. They're essentially practice players to be able to go 5 x5 in Gilas practice

Ah yes lack of real game experience is a cause of concern. Look at what's happening with Kai. How do they even stay in game shape in this pandemic? That's also my concern for our HS and collegiate players. Sayang ang development and they're wasting their prime years

Hopefully more HS and college players in the 18-22 range get invited to the Gilas pool. That may aid in their development, practicing against the better players, and maybe experiencing a development like Baltazar and Tamayo (from big to combo forward), or Dave Ildefonso (transform into possibly a combo guard).

I disagree. I only agree with the nietos but Go and Navarro can be given serious consideration for the 11th and 12th spot. I disagree that thirdy should be given a spot, but i agree that he is given more rep than Kobe and the Gomez bros.

I think this is one of the few perks of Pba being reluctant on lending players for a long significant time.

We are forced to tap the college players who were all available due to their respective league's suspension

I would hope for a Tall Shooter 4 like maybe Kevin Quiambao. If we are going 4 out, 1 in.

(I think AJ Edu will not play, and maybe wait for his 100% recovery)

And yes, After seeing how Gilas beat Korea fair and square twice last year, We are really a contender for the gold

This 8- man or 9 man rotation thing is really popular.

Like former nba coach pat riley said, " Use eight, rotate 7, play 6, trust 5" in the game that matters.(playoffs)

So, the 10th -12th players are just there for insurance.

But still, I would still want talent in 10th-12th spot in terms of emergency.
