Measured standing 6’5.5 in shoes with a strong 240-pound frame and a remarkable 7’1.25 wingspan at the 2022 NBA Draft Combine, Harper Jr. has unique dimensions with his length and strength. He is not the most explosive athlete, but uses his frame well, has good feet for his frame, and can catch an occasional lob a bit higher above the rim than one might expect thanks to his significant reach.

Holding his own guarding on the perimeter thanks to his length and instincts and using his frame effectively on the block, Harper Jr. developed into a solid all-around defender under Head Coach Steve Pikiell.

Perhaps on barefoot he's only around 6-foot-4, but that's almost insignificant when one has a 85.25-inch wingspan. For reference, 6-foot-7 Scottie Pippen who was known as having among the most impressive wingspan by an NBA player during his time has an 88-inch wingspan.

I think Justin Brownlee at 24 or 25 years of age isn't as skilled as Ron Jr., though I think JB is more athletic than Ron Jr.

Shot creation - Ray Parks/Wright/Tolentino
Go-to guy - Ray Parks/Wright/Tolentino
Interior defender in case AJ and Kai are not in the lineup - Absolutely nothing with locals, QMB/Philipps/Kouame
Maybe another initiator or some playmaking - Heading/Kiefer
Shooting - Heading/Parks
Wing who can at least stop dribble peneration and rotate, better if he can defend man-to-man - Navarro/ Balti (the the 2020 version that was handled by Tab but I doubt he can still be that guy, he is already used to playing as big)

We should include Dwight Ramos in this category. I think Dwight's ability to create his shot off the dribble is underrated. KQ's ability to create shot off the dribble has been improving since his stint in the KBL.

I did not add the players that are already in current Gilas.

I just don't know if SBP & coach Tim have of contingency measures in their minds in case Justin Brownlee's FIBA suspension would be more than 3 months? Are they considering Ron Harper, Jr. as a possible replacement for JB in case JB's suspension overlaps the 2025 Asia Cup in August? Or maybe they're thinking of bringing back Jordan Clarkson?

I think Clarkson is injured. If QMB is cleared, I don't mind tapping Holt as a temporary replacement with his familiarity with Cone's system. He will shore up the guard position while KQ, Malonzo and Oftana will get more PT at 3.

Clarkson’s injury isn’t very major. He already started treatment and will only take 4-6 weeks of recovery.

One thing that frustrates me about our national team is that for about a decade now we haven't really developed a pretty decent 3-pt. shooter since Jeff Chan.

Matthew Wright didn't live up to most people's expectation. RR Pogoy had a mixed performance in his stint with Gilas. There were games that Pogoy did well but majority of his Gilas stints were dissappointing.

Now we have Calvin Oftana as supposedly Gilas' main 3-pt. shooter but he hasn't really fared well. We have a proven 3-pt. shooter in Jordan Heading which many think would fare better than Oftana with Gilas, but coach Tim has yet to tap Heading in his Gilas team.

It's still early, but check out Kyle Gamber of Ateneo. His role on the team is to catch and shoot threes, and he's doing it really well. Right now, in Asiabasket, he's averaging 17 PPG, with all of those points coming from the three-point line, his field goals every game are all from downtown.

That's basically the role Gilas needs. I don't have any other players in mind aside from him. Cabonillas has a good shooting stroke, but he's more of a SF. I think he could be a good catch-and-shooter too. Alex Konov was supposed to be one of those guys as well, but he's currently in a bit of a career slump. Still, it's early for him, and he can definitely make a comeback.

Yeah. It seems Kyle Gamber has come out of his shell after languishing in the Ateneo bench for 2 years. Gamber actually was well hyped 3 years ago, but during his stint with Batang Gilas U-18 in 2022, I feel Gamber failed to live up to the hype.

Hope he continues this kind of game as what he is showing with Ateneo in the current Asiabasket pre-season collge tournament.

It's just one game bro.

Bolick has been the most consistent player of NLEX while Cyrus doesn't come close to Bolick in terms of consistency.

Bro, watch nlex games and you can tell what im referring too.. xyrus isnt chucking threes left and right..

Evebtually pba will create a separate pool for the sea and asian games with the way things are going

You're basing your assessment in just 1 game? I think one outstanding game by a player is too small a sample size to come up with such a assessment.

I'm not saying Cyrus doesn't have potential, what I'm saying is you really need more games to properly evaluate a player's potential.

One game doesn't define a player.

we really do hope that theirs a separate pool of players for the coming SEAG and AG excluding the so-called Gilas Team A.

we've already mentioned players that could possibly be exempted moving forward

so hopefully those Grandpas should come up with a better preparation to avoid being criticize

because they really fell in love to the word "cramming".
