whats the pba/sbp plan for sea games, it might be high time for the ibners request for a "separate pool

They should just make the youth team play in SEA games, nothing to lose anyway. A selection of our best U16 - U18 would benefit them on the real youth competitions.

We might now get the Gold, but who cares anyway? everyone knows Team A Gilas would dominate the shit out of our sea neighbors.

I think SBP and PBA made SEA as one of the priorities after losing at 2021 against Indonesia despite having a stacked roster

As of April 2025, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) and the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) have not publicly disclosed specific plans for the Philippine men's basketball team's participation in the 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, scheduled for December 9 to 20 in Thailand.

Following the 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, SBP President Al Panlilio emphasized the organization's intention to maintain the cohesion of the current national team for upcoming competitions, including the FIBA Asia Cup, FIBA World Cup, SEA Games, and Asian Games.
Given the PBA's 50th season, which is set to commence on October 5, 2025, coordination between the PBA and SBP will be essential to ensure the availability of key players for the SEA Games.

Just better give the seagames stint to the young guns, winning gold in seagames men's basketball is now boring.. Kouame, Phillips, Baclaan, Escamis can do that job...

Who cares if we lose to Indonesia? That is only 1 in million situation that we were in the bad part of history.. Indonesia are more guts to field young guns in seagames than us even we are better team... Seagames basketball is just a small event for us.. we don't need this tournament...

Everyone sensible knows how superior we are to other SEA teams. Only the most insecure needs to be continually stroked and reassured of the fact.

It's about time we use these type of tournaments for developing younger players.

The ones that will complain if cadets lose are guys without vision whose opinion doesn't really matter.

That was probably Indonesia's best roster they could ever build in their basketball history, whereas our roster had big names, but during that time, no matter what roster was created, if Chot Reyes was the coach, it wouldn't really live up to the hype. It was a time when the chemistry of the team was at an all-time low.

That being said, putting together a youth roster, even if it’s not stacked, is still a win because, although they might lose, that’s where they will learn. On the other hand, sending a stacked team would result in no one's gain, because, as I said, everyone knows the Philippines would beat any team in Southeast Asia if they used their full strength.

I really like the time that we sent the likes of Kobe Paras and Gilas Cadets, because those guys have something to prove that time.

But I want the guys to be a lot younger, hell, putting Prince Carino against those grown-ass man would make him adapt and evolve to compete against much bigger opponents.

Agree. Sending our elite team is an overkill. Better send college players and potential Gilas players like Phillips, Lopez, Bayla, Panopio and others reinforced by Kouame and QMB. The team is strong enough to win the gold and also gets to familiarize Cone's system. Can also include that athletic 6'7 kid Koji Buenaflor as the 12th player for experience purposes.

Gilas winning the SEA Games basketball gold would not mean anything to me. Is there something to celebrate being declared as the best basketball country in South East Asia when our opponents are patsies in Asian basketball? Let's be honest bros, despite of the improvements of Indonesia & Thailand all these years, they are nowhere near the level of the top 10 teams in Asia-Oceania. They are even inferior to Gulf region teams like Qatar, Saudi Arabis, Bahrain, UAE.

Would we get any respect in Asian basketball even if we will win 10 more SEA Games basketball gold?

As they say, "In the land of the blind, the one-eyed is king"

Not winning the SEAG Gold is bad publicity for the SBP. We should always send a good enough team to win the gold.

That said, we needn’t to send the 1st team. The SEAG is a chance for the young prospects to get playing time. Let LA coach the team instead of CTC.

I would take those on the periphery but TC did not pick. That would be the most logical way to see the other talents and see if they are worthy of the main team.

It's like a black belter joining white belt tournaments, it only benefits the insecure or ignorant.

About time we regularly send our junior black belters against adults. Growing pains are inevitable, the sooner our young Gilas prospects experience it the better.

Well I just happen to know someone who would need a good PR win after some terrible showings and recent finals loss..

Sir Al,

Koji "I just saw a boy flying" Buenaflor is something.

I do hope our stakeholders may put up a program alongside kids like Lebron James Daep, Prince Carino, Owen Calanasan, those Afro kids among others

in preparation for future Gilas call-ups.

as for the coming SEAG 2025.

Philips, AK34, QMB, Lucero, Balti, Barefield and even Stephen Holt can be added to that lineup up to next year's Asian Games

wherein the likes of Ron Harper Jr., JC and JB may be able to play to defend that crown.

SBP shouldn't necessary needs to parade that so-called A-team on those conclaves.

give those young ineligibles(for now) a chance to don the RP uniform.

Kouame plus collegiate stars can handle it already.. who cares if this is will be a close game.. or if Brownlee is available then we can add it too, but that's it...
