Imagine if QMB is declared FIBA eligible & Kouame getting a FIBA exemption (Wishingful thinking ba ako?), we definitely have the deepest pool of talent at the center spot in Asia (Asia lang ha, di kasali Australia & New Zealand). Both QMB & Kouame are known as dependable big men defenders.

Then if for instance Mike Philipps & Zave Lucero also getting FIBA exemptions, magiging malalim na rin yung 4 spot natin. And these are young 4's which includes Carl Tamayo who is only 24 & Mason Amos who is around 21.

Now go a step further. For sure the coaching staff knows how realistic the chances are for those to come through, especially QMB. They have access to all of the pertinent information.

And right now they are not panicking.

It's like when you're going to fight someone you think you can easily beat, but when you see him very calm and composed, you better think twice. He knows something you don't.

Saw Ralph Cu and RJ at the Gilas practice albeit in white Jerseys probably as extra bodies or people to teach the Triangle. Honestly wouldnt mind Cu tag along, I think he has a huge potential to be a pretty good coach

Sir Mets,
cc: Sir Jams,

all of us here are very much critical on the Grandpas.

as much as we keep on asking and questioning "Why they don't do this, do that?, they should do this and that??? storyline.

on the other side of the coin, serious money is an onion...that is why sometimes we can't blame them

yes it was revealed that they could offer juicy meaty stuff if they really want..."The Jordan Clarkson and Andray Blatche storyline".

someone whisper to me that those ballers that are part of CTC's pool are also receiving "the juicy and meaty stuff as well".

no one is complaining nor whining because the TF is very satisfying and "All are Happy". they are well fed.

that is why "We love representing Gilas".

well that's part of the trade of professional basketball "high risk high reward"..high maintenance big expectation".

we at IBNeverse are very much aware of it.

on that part we can't totally blame PBA/SBP/SMC/MVP if until now we haven't heard nor read about the proposed Team B as of this writing.

now enters the U16 and U18 to be handled by coach Tinyente

obviously that will be the Cadet Development Team moving forward...surely that would be another humongous investment on their part.

as a fan, I ain't pushing my "Main Panic Button" yet because the main dance number at the desert is still a few months away.

for as long as they keep on doing those mini camp/small camp on every windows, club breaks and off-seasons

the so-called "building blocks".

I've already mentioned this before, Grandoa Dean is an active adviser of his fellow Grandpas

and he already wrote several articles about "FIBA's playbook on exemptions".

well the impression of "they are not panicking", I think that's part of their office culture(?) acting like "Slow Horses".

no one knows until we became part of their circles.

for as long as they release the exemption verdict "in the right place at the right time". I'm cool on that.

in an imperfect world..wether we like it or not that's the attitude of our stakeholders who handles the NF.

Al Chua has always been a red flag. People seem to forget this.

I didn’t get carried away with Tim’s recent success. I don’t plan to even if we miraculously win the Asia Cup.

The real litmus test is still qualifying for Qatar 2027 and LA 2028.

We meet both objectives, then maybe I’ll believe this “smaller pool is better” BS.

Higher bar set for Gilas just because of your hatred towards Alpob

Personally, I think the goal should be to make the next Olympics, given our semis appearance in the Riga OQT last year. That's regardless of who manages the team.

realistically, handling high profile national basketball team composed of high profile ballers

with very discerning and super duper critical fan base (we in IBNeverse are very much part of it whether we admit it or not)

is like working inside a pressure cooker despite having an ideal centralized AC with an 18 to 20 degree Temp.

in a well ventilated, smell good manicured carpet flooring beside a well tinted window overlooking the very lovely Manila Bay

with it's romantic sunset during the dawn and pantries are always full of fresh fruits and pika-pika including the big corporate fridge with lot's of indulgence

but still your sweating sticky all over because the nature and trade of the job.

money is not a problem, the management has a very deep pocket and both businesses are striving big-time(wala talaga magugutom at malulungkot)

it's just that they are very very demanding, meticulous and scrutinization are felt on all corners

it's like having a lot's of CCTV on all corners including inside the comfy R.

despite all those very intimidating environs almost toxic in a way

but if you've done all your task on time without any major Sev 1 issue thing

certainly you will be rewarded and feels good like your a stud and a superstar.

anyway, we as a fan just need to relax(?) while watching a movie

either you laugh, amuse, hate, cry, sympathize, angered, despise, love the characters involved.

in the end your still longing for more..(sana may part 2..sana may season 2)

the drama and adventure of Philippine basketball

off-topic: Severance S1 is one heck of a TV series, you can't figure it out until the latter part of the season, the first few episodes is like "What's going on?? kind of a ride until

"ahh I get it", creepy and mind boggling, all actors and actresses are topnotch but for me I'm beginning to be a fan of Adam Scott and Tramell Tillman on this, highly recommended, S2 is on-going..

Guys, is that already an almost certainty that QMB will be declared by FIBA as Filipino "local" player? Sort of formality na lang ba ang kulang?

Speaking of QMB, the guy may just be around 6-foot-9 on barefoot, but he seems to have an impressive wingspan. So even if for instance he's only 6-foot-9 on barefoot, with such long wingspan, it would be like having another 7-foot-1 big guy for Gilas.

For me, the addition of 1 or 2 bigmen is enough because this is where the shortage is really crucial. The absence of a bigman, especially a rim protector/defensive anchor, really changes the complexion of the game.

If we have enough good interior defenders like Kai, AJ, and Japeth, and Ange, I think we can afford hugot in the 1-4 positions.

The problem is, after those four, the cupboard is bare. And Ange is a naturalized player.

Well, things will dramatically change if QMB is declared by FIBA as a legit Filipino local player. QMB seems to have an AJ Edu-level defensive skills, or at least close to that level. As I've said, QMB seems to have an impressive wingspan, is mobile for his height, & athletic as well (especially by Asian basketball standards).

Kinda like a player that Long Hair is looking for his SMC franchise teams.

In as much as I would love QMB to play pro basketball in Japan or in Europe, most likely he will end up with an SMC team in the PBA. Well, it is much better for QMB to end up in the PBA than seeing him playing in the MPBL.

I don't really buy the idea that he's really entertaining offers from them. More likely he's using them so they would offer him more $$ or under the table deals. Probably is affecting his GILAS stint too that's why we aren't getting the confirmation yet if he's eligible. They're being careful not to lose him to the other leagues. Just a guess. If he's really that good pay the man.

Remember when Bolick used to sign those short term deals with NP? When he under contract he was our starting PG and not even getting invite whenever they're trying to lock him in before being totally blacklisted when he left for Japan?

QMB can replace JF right now and Gilas wont lose much. The thing with him is he has already reached his ceiling. Cant be much better anymore. So the playing in Japan for development doesnt make sense. He is not good enough to play in big european leagues. So the PBA is his best and most logical option for pro basketball.

SMB can give him the money he wants. Why he is still not with Gilas is most probably becuase he is not hagop eligible. Lets wait til they fix this

I'm hoping that he would end up in the NBL,but that's just me wishful thinking.

Extra difficult to accept any victory for Gilas as they are blinded by their hate on SMC and Al Chua.
The same guys who always thought that the national team's success can be done without the PBA's involvement. Its really tearing them apart to be a Gilas supporter and giving props to the PBA and SMC for getting it right

Can you blame us for having that mindset on the PBA? We had a lot of underperforming PBA players and underperforming Gilas teams. And then Tab's amateur team beats SoKor twice. And then we got the silver in 2022 SEA Games with a rotation of 6 PBA players in the final game (where I think only June Mar and Wright had good performances from the PBA contingent). As for PBA players, the only consistently serviceable players I saw after 2016 were Castro, June Mar, Abueva, and Gabe. CJ and Bolick did well in FIBA too, but that was just the 2019 World Cup. Guys like Pogoy, Troy, and Wright underperformed. Then we see guys like Dwight, Carl, Heading, and Navarro do good in FIBA.

Now, after seeing good defensive performances from Scottie and Newsome, at least the PBA could provide quality. Japeth got rejuvenated. And I saw Oftana become serviceable at least as a defender. And credit to coach Tim for picking PBA players that are at least serviceable in FIBA. And even Chot's WC lineup had a good enough PBA contingent, the only one I disagreed with was Pogoy (who admittedly performed well in the November 2022 window and WC after performing badly in the SEA Games).

I wasn't in favor of Chua and SMC getting involved due to preference in players, and for fear of having a PBA-centric development plan (in lieu of having our kids developing abroad for a career in the States, Europe, or Aussie), but fair play to him for saying that he's open to kids and non-PBA players making the senior team.

As for the PBA now, it's just the schedule I'm worried about. Will we have enough time to rest and prepare for FIBA tournaments proper?

Off Topic: Our first ever medal at the Asian Winter Games. Congratulations Philippine Curling Team.

Now, Tim Cone has to realize the importance of defending the perimeter. At any given day, teams can get hot and shoot a bunch of threes. We were able to get away with New Zealand because Kai was there. They shoot threes all they want but they had a hard time to make a shot inside the paint - that mitigated the hot shooting of New Zealand. Without Kai, teams can get a couple more shots in the paint and get from deep.

And we scored in the paint with Kai to answer NZ's shooting as well as a good defensive stretch. The offensive rebounding helped too.
