Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

At this point I just think its politics. It seems Chua doesnt want certain guys. Probably guys like Berto, Heading, Balti. Cone is losing warm bodies. The funny thing is he would rather get a 3rd level guy like Cu than add somebody more qualified to the pool.

Touche.. some players are better than current roster but opted to stick what he has..

some of the players that we wanted has some issues before.

Berto has some issues before
Balti has some issues (the asian games call up drama?) and Delta being Balti’s manager
Heading has some issues but him playing with converge and delta being around?
SJ, who is having an All star year, has some words before with SBP
BRP jr. who is having a good scoring year again, left PBA on some issues (mostly contract)
Kiefer, who most here doesn’t appreciate his game, left pba with some controversy

Look Kquiam playing in KBL is Okay with chua but not to others who has issues with PBA/SBP

Berto used to sign short term contract before and was always excluded during negotiations time. Then left the SMC camp

Balti, Heading are under Delta,

SJ probably won't ever get that call up because he used to clown them on Socmed

BRP didn't leave on good terms, depends on Chua

Kiefer, probably isn't the type of player that Cone wants

Best solution is a team B with Tenorio (since he is also the Youth coach), Flying A, and chambers handling the team. Those three have fully mastered the Tim's system and are also very intelligent so they can pass on the system to the team b players for easy transition. What Cone is saying about having no time to teach is complete bull crap.

Sorry for my ignorance, who is Berto?

Good idea but who will shoulder the budget for another team? Lots of you criticize previous Gilas for lack of preparation and chemistry. Now we have a coach who values chemistry and mastery of his system we go back to suggesting a hugot system

simple solution is to have a team b and assign one of his assistants to handle team b with system so once that he’s ripe for team A, It’s easy transition.

Oh how I love having a Gilas team B. I love to see players like Jordan Heading, Baltazar, Arvin Tolentino, Will Navarro, Ken Tuffin, CJ Cansino, Jonel Policarpio, Justin Arana, Francis Lopez, QMB, etc. in Gilas team B.

But it seems nobody among SBP & SMC people are talking about it.

Hindi naman ganoon Brad.

What some posters here (including myself) are suggesting is that, amid the frequency of injuries to Gilas players (Malonzo, AJ Edu, Kai, KQ), coach Tim needs to add a few players to the Gilas team/pool. We are not suggesting that we add as many as 10 players to the pool/team. Just add 3 to 4 players to the pool, that's it. I think adding 3 or 4 players won't disrupt the team's cohesion or chemistry.

Those 3 players are mason, japeth and ange. Right now cone added troy because he is learning the system with Ginebra. We want our favorite players in that's why.

So what are Cu and Rosario then? Why not just add actual pool players and not the best available GSM player? When he recently added Japeth again he said, find me another 6'9 player who can protect the rim. No arguments from me there. But when he added perennial FIBA under-achiever Rosario what's his excuse?

who says we are suggesting a hugot system? can't you comprehend that we want the team A to be maintained but have an easier transition for new players? Even Chua wants more spare tires. SMC has a big budget. How do you think they can hoard all those players? Even Teng who is useless now is getting a lot of money.

Kai
Edu
Carl
KQ
Junmar
Dwight
Brownlee
Scottie
Newsome
CJ
Malonzo
Oftana

Reserves:
Mason
Japeth
Ange/Boatwright
Troy

Not unless some of these players are retiring from Gilas, I don't think Cone is adding anymore to the reserves who would be a sure upgrade. Even Clarkson is not an upgrade over JB in the eyes of Cone. If Japeth defnitely retires then an eligible QMB would be preferred.

Exactly! There is no excuse for adding Rosario. He is still new to Ginebra so we can't say he has mastered the triangle. If Cone is consistent with his stance then it should have been Amos getting elevated. It should have been Baltazar, Heading, and an eligible QMB. I can begrudgingly forgive Japeth but not Troy.

Cu is always and will always be a practice player. Troy is learning the triangle and CTC is definitely seeing his versatility as a plus maybe compared to malonzo and KQ. If KQ and Malonzo are playing, I don't think Troy would play. Maybe as a practice player.

Every GSM practice Troy is learning the triangle. Can you say that for other players in his position?

A non-Gilas player plays well... IBN: lets get him for Gilas! lol

Cone is not replacing his 12 unless one retires. His reserves can be replaced but it will be debatable if that replacement is really better than Mason, Japeth, or even Troy playing under CTC's system. I bet if Mason was not there, someone would be calling out for him to be there. CTC will never please everyone. But winning makes everyone happy and that is what he is bringing to Gilas right now. We cannot questions his decisions because he is winning. He played in Latvia without a natural PG, for chrisakes.

I don't get it. I am saying Baltazar has played much better than Rosario in Fiba. He is taller with a longer wingspan. He has played decently in other international competitions. He is playing decently in the PBA. Even if as a "temporary" replacement it makes more sense to pick him than Rosario. Why are we so sold on Cone's 12. Is he the almighty who doesn't make mistakes? He will never consider another player just because he already chose his permanent 12? IMO injuries are the best time to try out other players that have Fiba potential not to recycle a 32 year old who has shown he is not fit for Fiba.

Qualify that: Baltazar played well in FIBA under Tab. Rosario played so-so in FIBA under Chot. Different circumstances under the triangle where Troy does not need to dribble to be effective. Balti played bad in Dubai, outshone by KQ who is having limited minutes under Cone in Gilas. What makes you think Cone is gonna use him if he's in the lineup?

I tell you what, let's complain if QMB is gonna be bypassed even if proven eligible. I don't think CTC will pass up that opportunity to grab a JF heir-apparent in Gilas. Balti? nah... he will have to prove himself in the PBA first
