SBP showing its usual sleeping in the noodlehouse ways by not fixing the papers of Kouame. The guy is already qualified for exemption as he was clearly developed here.

Ange is literally playing for a PBA team in the EASL too.

I really don't know what's the mind of SBP people. Maybe they are only interested in applying for FIBA exemption on go-to-guy type of players like a Jordan Clarkson. Maybe they think that applying for FIBA exemption on players like Ange Kouame or Mike Philipps who are more of a role player than a go-to-guy isn't worth it. We all know how persistent Al Panlilio is in appealing before FIBA for the federation to grant Clarkson an exemption.

We had Newsome and Maverick Ahanmisi exempted.

At the ripe age of 30 plus. Newsome I think was 32. So 5 more years for Ange?

New had played basketball here since 2013. Mav had played here since 2015.

As for Ange, he played in Ateneo from 2018 to 2022. He's been in the Philippines before that.

I noticed that the NP that PBA coaches like to use (CCR, CTC) are players who can carry us offensively. when locals cant make anything, they use an NP who can take over. Dray, JC, JB, and maybe Bennie.

compare to what Coach Rajko or Coach Tab used, Kuya Marcus and Ange, bigs who are there primarily to defend the interior and get rebounds .because of this setup, locals are forced to score night in and night out. Casio, Castro, Terrence, RJ, SJ, and Papa Dwight. the other chip in as well during offensive drought simply because, walang sasalo, tayo tayo dapat.

if you want a big who can carry the offense but still be able to defend and get rebounds.... i think you are looking at a fringe NBA player or someone who is doing quite well either somewhere in Europe or a world import in Japan. dont get me wrong, i'd love to see someone like that, but that will take the ball away from Kai to make the money spent worthwhile. is that something we want though? Bennie is a good compromise, but I'm with you, he isnt really going to help with D or rebounds too much. he wlll still get his stat no doubt. but he is an NBA level scorer and i expect any Gilas coach to maximise his skill.

JC and Bennie are the types who need defensive support. And with the way our talent pool right now, more likely than not, we need an interior defender to complete that defensive support. Luckily, we have Kai and AJ. We just have to hope both are healthy in big windows and tournaments.

Ange and Mike are big bodies that can play the 4/5, something that we don't exactly have a lot of. This should have automatically triggered moves for exemption

Kouame arrived to the Philippines in 2016 so I expect he would be re-classified by FIBA next year 2026 which will be by the his 10th in the country…

We need one of the following to get us through Kai's injury:

- healthy AJ
- local eligibility of one of QMB, Phillips, Kouame
- development of Chiu

Else, we have no choice but to settle with Japeth.

For now we have need to be contended with Japeth. Limited choices at the moment…

one huge difference is Ange was never classified as a local in any league in the Philippines that I can recall. Newsome and Maverick were both locals (fli-am) and not treated as an import\FSA like Ange.

so the better comparison is, do we have a player who has no Pinoy blood, treated as a local that we tried to get exempted? i remember Kuya Marcus wanted to join the PBA before after he became naturalized, but the league still does not look at him as a local. how are we exempting Ange?

that is why fans should really makes a very hard appeal to the PBA Grandpas to let AK34 to join the 2025 PBA Draft as part of that process for exemption.

kudos to Sir Giannis tukayo who first brought that idea before.

I will say it again and there is no letting go of this..

compared to Kuya Marcus, Dray, JB and Double B

AK34 is literally Philippine developed both education and basketball development since his teenage years.

thru his adopted(?) Filipino parent(s) during those time when the main focus of the guy is to have a better education thru sports scholarship

to uplift his impoverished family back home at Ivory Cost.

For Ange he's the insurance if Kai can't go for one reason or another, like the near disaster a few days ago.

And they're good interior defenders. Another important player that we're short on.

^I just mentioned the MINIMUM reasons why they should be considered for exemption. I mean, in the long term, if Kai and/or AJ are injured, that's it, no more legit bigs (we still have Junemar, but he's not getting any younger)

It does help that they also bring defense and/or rebounding to the table.

Here's a YouTube short on naturalized players.

Here's a YouTube short on naturalized players.

after naturalization, the LAW looks at them as a Filipino, no different from those born with Filipino parents. ano, PBA is higher than the constitution? noone just wants to foot the bill to sue PBA. and if the problem is parity, may parity ba ngayon? and like what your short says, they've been getting players who doenst have Pinoy blood already in the past. atleast, these know naturalized players represented the country. and didnt lie about their papers.

so without Kai and possibly AJ, the team will have June Mar and Japeth manning the 5 with Tamayo, Amos and probably Brownlee moonlighting at the 4. This team will be vulnerable without either Kai or AJ.

Kai and AJ are the keystone to our team's defense. The way I see it, if we miss both of them, our defense falls apart.

Question is, how can we compensate if both of them are missing from the lineup? Do we devise a scheme which can mask the lack of an interior defender, and do we have the players for that scheme? Or do we just outscore the opponent?

We were competitive against georgia and brazil without Kai and edu. Hoping another magical coaching by Cone

for the record Cone has never had a healthy Edu so it was all just Kai and he still managed to work wonders, now im not saying we should keep wishing for that well till it runs dry, it would definitely be ideal if we can have reinforcements for the two.
