Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

  • Thread starter Thread starter IPC2
  • Start date Start date
There are unconfirmed reports that SGA is firming up its preparation for Dubai Internationals this coming February 2025 by securing services of Dwight Howard. The are still finalising their negotiation with another superstar DRose. Expected to come back for them are Rhenz Abando and Jason Brickman. They are also talking with Meralco about getting Kouame on loan. Enticing C.Hermoso to come out from retirement for a final hurrah. Also sending queries to Bennie Boatwright, Kamaka Hepa and Remy Macaspac if they are available.

Boogie is confirmed in… back in 2010 it was circulated in this forum that he has Filipino blood (one-eight) but was subsequently debunked.

Super OT:

Congrats to the Philippine Men's National Football Team for advancing to the Semis of the 2024 AFC Mitsubishi Electric Cup ( ASEAN Championships) .

The team was undefeated but also winless in the group stages as they drew all their matches. They needed to win vs Indonesia at Jakarta , and win they did, 1-0.

They will face powerhouseThailand in the semis.

Congrats to us.

I believe this is pretty much accurate. Jordan is doing well so far. Let's how he will fare later against Thompson and Ahanmisi. Too bad Holt is injured as I was looking forward with his matchup against Heading.

well, Heading (though he didnt pop off but provided stability for Converge) with Schonny and Stockton just torched Thompson and Ahanmisi, Holt was there too but most likely not 100% but yeah in PBA side, the Converge boys are better... for now.

I think 2 years ago, if Ginebra & Converge have met, Iskati Thompson would get the better of Alec Stockton. This goes to show the significant improvement Stockton has made in the past 2 yrs.

Good Day Sir r1ck,

Jordan Heading is indeed headed to the A-team without the doubt hoping no major injuries for the coming months in preparation for 2025 FIBA-Asia

as for Justine Baltazar, the talent is there and he already shows he can compete at the world level but we all know he hasn't settled nor adjusted yet to the PBA life.

just like Joshua Munzon, once he calm his thing, we will see what stuff he is really made of.

I doubt if he will ended up like Rommel Adducul, Sam Eman or worse Enrico Villanueva and Rich Alvarez who until there retirement to the game hasn't improve that much

" lahat sila mga bano pa rin sa free throw line and always a liable in offense and defense, madalas lagi pang nasa foul trouble". trans. lack of work ethics.

the likes of Christian David, Kai Balunggay, Keith Datu, Zav Lucero among others should play first in a non-sanctioned tourney like SEAG and hopefully AG

CTC and all SBP stakeholders are talking about nowadays about " adapting to the system".

that's the key.

With the looming arrival of Pineda as Converge’s head coach in forthcoming Philippine Cup expect more playing time for his protege Balti. The team’s offence may shifted from current 3-guard approach (Heading, Winston and Stockton) to interior offence focus on Balti…

Sir Fil,

the only significant contribution both for JC and Stephen as far as Gilas Basketball are concern is to parade them for the coming 2026 AG or hopefully depending on their physical condition 2030 edition as well.

I think having those 2 hafus in the line-up we could somehow provide some fighting chance to defend our AG thrones if ever host JAP will parade their own A-Team plus Hachi and Yuta.

claiming medals of any colors on both SEAG and AG brings proud to the country and feels great watching the winning moments and at the same time monitoring the Medal Tally every now and then brings some elements of excitement and thrill during the course of the Games.

with the possible entry of Oceania teams like AUS and NZL to participate in some events like basketball wherein the OCA already approve their participation a few years ago.

in fact they could parade some delegates in Hangzhou AG but due to some political issues with CHI they decided to skip that edition.

who knows maybe they could send some delegates on 2026 considering those Oceania teams are political allies as far as the Indo-Pacific storyline alongside PHI, US, JAP, IND, SK among others.

as for JM's possible exemption moving forward, having played in a domestic and international tourney representing PHI such as ABL, PBA D-League, Chooks 3x3 and now in the PBA as a "LOCAL"

that's a good and substantial merit for him.

besides there's a provision in the FIBA guidebook that stated:

Chapter 1: Eligibility, National Status Availability of Players

Players With Two or More Nationalities

17. Any Player who has played (i.e appeared on the final team delegation roster) in a main official competition of FIBA (including a FIBA 3x3 competition) for a national team for which the player is eligible is considered as having chosen the national team of that country.

I stand to be corrected.

as far as I know JM obtained his PH docs when he is 22 yrs. old or barely 23 yrs. old

and as per FIBA, there's a 23 yr. old policy to those players who wants to change allegiance or NF but on the case of JM he hasn't played in any sanctioned tourney in any U16 or U18 team

as for 28 yr. old Sedric, at least he is now playing in a domestic league fully recognize by FIBA as a "LOCAL"

so let's start from that..just trust the process and just continue accumulating all the necessary merits and see what will happen after LA 2028.

SBP’s maneuvers leading to 2027 FIBA World Cup I believe are more crucial. If they expedite application for re-classication on players in bulk like M.Philips, Kouame, Munzon, Stockton and Ballungay then it can further deepen our NT pool.

Road to L.A. 2028 is more daunting than Doha 2027. In Olympics there only one slot allocated for Asia and if Japan will field their full A team then it’s theirs. Moreover most players want to enjoy the glitters of Tilseltown city and want to be part of it. Atm they Japan are the best in Asia and the window of their current golden generation may last beyond 2028 Olympic cycle. Hence, 2027 FIBA World Cup qualification is more feasible for Gilas.

Sir Fil,

if the Godfather/Lannister will implement there gameplan ala coach Leo's SMB's "dump the ball to Abai philosophy" without too much "in the game adjustment"

when the going get's tough.

oh dear then goodluck for that. just look at 6'5 C Arana right now, he is now well scouted hence those high TO on his current stat, almost no adjustment, no reliable outside shot.

if that will be the ultimate plan for Balti.

all I can is "Man oh Man!!

that is why.

Sir Fil,

as part of our usual cliche

familiarity to the system is very much on any basketball program

CTC already stated that "he is done on(too)much teaching that is why he choose a very compact pool.

but it's no brainer that continuity is very important, people, well "they come and go" that's the reality of life

so those players that you've mentioned plus the others "they really need to adopt to the system".

as part of the possible inclusion to the A-Team moving forward.

if indeed CTC are not inclined on too much teaching nowadays

well I think his deputies can do those things esp. now that the SEAG and AG are now fast approaching

those tournaments are the best opportunity to learn the current system.

"smooth transition is very much important".

So if DJ Fenner will join the draft alongside QMB, who will likely the top pick?

I think QMB will still be the top pick. Iba pa rin yung value ng 6-foot-10 big man. As good a wingman (& a good size wingman as that) Fenner is, he's already 31 yrs old. QMB on the other hand is only 23 or 24 yrs old.

Will definitely happen when overseas career has ended.

Not a guarantee. His Fiba qualification has yet to be confirmed. He probably has a father who is not Filipino. So that leaves out B league and KBL. So PBA is the only option.

Not only is he young but QMB definitely has potential (again not certain) to be a Gilas player, basically its two birds one stone for Cone and Chua.

That is what I am trying to say. I was trynna say that if his overseas career ended, he will surely go to the PBA. His FIBA eligibility and BLeague, KBL stint did not come on my mind because I don't have an idea about his qualification too. I think him loving adobo metaphorically mean he acknowledge his filo roots, hence playing in the PBA, from what I compherended. I think the thread currently talks about him and QMB getting drafted at the first pick.

Boogie Ellis?

Still QMB is likely to be no.1 draft overall. Followed by no. 2 Kamaka, no.3 Rhenz if there is no new offer from KBL. no.4 Remy Martin. I doubt Boogie Ellis will apply with the draft. I think he will aim to get a two-way NBA + G League contract thus increasing his stock. Fellow G League player Jarod Lucas may probably apply. It was posted here in this forum before that he already secured Filipino passport.

If these mentioned blue chips players will enter next year’s draft then the possibility of Pineda drafting his man, Fenner become a reality…
