There is no way that the present nt can survive aus. The designated shooters were busts, and against what, 123rd something ranked hongkong?
Oftana and amos have to be removed. They are asean level for sure, but not much against asia's best. Malonzo cant shoot, but at least he can stop volume shooters like sourpuss corey webster. At this point, i agree that heading and lopez would be far more effective AND reliable as volume scorers with decent defense. Tamayo can do some feisty sf offense and defense, but he is no brownlee or clarkson. Ramos is also more of a defense-oriented non-scoring guard. Abando is a better replacement for cj; it just happens that cj reliably plays well with newsome and thompson around. Baltazar should be good enough against anything other than aus. Baltazar and tamayo are our best sfs, and our nt can survive without the aging brownlee with both of them.
Against aus, or nz at its home court, a jalen green or clarkson is a must at sg/sf. Why is kouame still not exempted as a local? He meets all np exemption requirements of fiba. With kai, abai, kouame, qmb and edu occasionally onboard, aus bigs can be neutralized with relative ease.
Sir cc,
Oftana is part of the powerful MVP group.
Amos is part of one of the most influential educational institution here in PHI.
CJ is part of the SMB group.
as much as some of us here in IBN are not totally cool with those you've mentioned
we cannot avoid the fact that "politics in Sports Federation is everywhere" I'm talking about other nations as well.
personally, I ain't totally questioning "why they are there".
those 3 are still a work in progress as far as CTC's system are concern esp. on Mason who is the youngest of them all
MVP Group, SMB Group and DLSU is a big part of Philippine basketball and they are the so-called "main stakeholders" for Senior and youth teams
alongside the whole UAAP and NCAA kingdom
we cannot afford to have issues or worst, burn bridges with them...it's a suicide on Pilipinas Basketball.
as we follow the journey of the latest entourage, I would say, they haven't reach the expectation of our suppose dream team esp. against those higher seeded
but as we go deeper, it seems that coach tim cone are honing some specific roles on those players, it ain't perfect but I think it will benefit the team moving forward.
no wonder CTC choose to have a small pool for easy teaching and learning
Renz Abando will always be part of the Gilas journey moving forward, it's just that those 3 you mentioned are in better position for now
as for AK34, two more impactful things he needs to fastrack his exemption in response to the so-called "strong domestic connection" ....allow him to join next year's PBA draft and practice his "rights of suffrage"
as part of his naturalization paper signed both by House Reps and Senate that he has all the "political rights" as a Filipino.
if the powerful Sec Gen and its tech. committee sees those things in the immediate future then there is no reason why they will questioned and disapprove it.
him and hopefully Favour Onoh had all the trump cards to be exempted moving forward.
