Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

  • Thread starter Thread starter IPC2
  • Start date Start date
One of the worst take I've ever read and seen in years. Cone and his version of Gilas won in Asian games, against Latvia and made Gilas competitive against Poland, Turkey, Georgia and Brazil. And just because they dropped 2 games in the PBA finals and doesn't follow your dream selection process he's now a terrible coach w/ an awful program.
You don't understand the dynamics of building a national team on a Philippine setting, we're not China that can just call up
players that we need. Numerous favors and deals have to be settled before players (outside of SMC) can step on the court.

Definitely another unthinking fan of cone or ginebra, or both who makes irrational allegations and conclusions. I never said that cone is "terrible" as a coach. I stated that he can be outcoached by "bahala na kayo" coach seyer, who, as others posted, somehow got his tnt team to defend better.

You can really fault cone for facts that can withstand honest analysis: (a) the fiba allows him to always form a 12 man team, but he crippled the team so he ended with 11; (b) he had no plan b for the missing kai and aj; (c) he stuck with amos when there were clearly far better proven players within and outside the pba. You really thought latvia prepared for the pinoy nt team with forgetable records? The brazil coach said they prepared for the philippine nt. Brazil didnt have problems with cone's coaching at all.

"Worse take" it is for this unthinking fan. "You dont understand" ... There. Somehow he crowned himself and assumed already he is worthy to understand anything, and others cant.

Getting "favors and deals". Really???? That is not a job for the coach. That is the work of the sbp. Akala ko ba "samahan" ang sbp??? Oops, it might be "samaan".

Cone doesnt have the personnel against a strong small ball playing team. He doesnt have bigs who could pound it inside. I saw some clips and he tried to play small ball. Tim prefers to play big but he only has japeth at his disposable. Isaac Go would be a liability in a running game but it doesnt mean Chot is better. Chot is only better because he faces a team who doesnt have a dominant ala Sanmig.

It is already November. Can someone post the tallblack's roster so we can check if they parade a lesser version?lol I bet most leagues would go on a break during that time. NZ players aren't stars in the NBL or even in JBL so they should supposedly be available unless injured.

There's a reason you're on that profession and not coaching at the highest level. And you're so called "honest analysis" is no better than the casual fan

Getting favors and deals is the work of the SBP???
Aahhh now its clear, you're a newbie.
My apologies for taking your comments seriously, go on now.

So you crowned yourself to be an authority on "honest analysis" and the "casual fan". Your hypocrisy is leaking from your grade 5 level comments. Go back to elementary school.

I see you got offended newbie, sorry kid

Idiot. I am a retiree, and have watched basketball since the 1960s. I have several STEM (science, engineering, tech, math) degrees and pro certificates. Your reasoning is exactly the same i have heard from grade 5 kids playing basketball. I cant be offended by fools like you. And yes, i studied in europe and watched european nt and pro basketball when i could.

This is the reason why we really like Brownlee as he is a deadly 3pt shooter & a versatile player at that. Aside from a deadshot from the 3pt range, Brownlee can slash, can hit from mid-range & can even post up. Of course Brownlee can defend too.

If I am to choose between JB & RHJ, I will still choose JB. The only downside on JB is his age.

RHJ's a game-changer on defense. I think all he'll need to help him is a decent rim protector and a good defensive scheme. Even if the guys around him are one-way players, it's fine as long as the scheme is there and they can follow it, because he's great on defense and can cover up for them.

With JB, he plugs a lot of holes. Create his own shot, playmaking, clutch, and defense, whether on the perimeter or in the interior. Although, right now, he's having difficulty against TNT, and I think he had difficulty scoring against Brazil in the OQT.

Either way, I think it's easier to build teams around them as NP's due to their versatility, especially on defense (which is especially the case for RHJ).

All that degrees for a lousy comment. Anyone can tell that you're at least 60 years old, i just didnt know you're always around grade 5 kids (yikes)
Plus you seem to have poor anger coping skills thus you resort to name calling and insults. Get a grip kid

Yes. The improvements for tnt's defense from rhj's efforts has outweighed, so far, the improvements on offense brought in by brownlee. Ginebra should be more desperate now, and will have harder fan support. Let us see what adjustments are made.

Idiot newbie. I am around grade 5 kids because i have grandchildren who play basketball. Try to get your intelligence higher than 60. Nobody is hopeless.

We needed two NP's there to win that Asiad, though. We needed JB's shot creation and clutch ability as well as Ange's defensive presence to win against China, for instance.

That said, that Asiad squad was a pretty well-constructed team with both of them in the lineup.

Hahaha. Still trying to recover from your shameful idiocy as a newbie. That european education brought high incomes. And now, my kids are highly paid pros in their respective fields too. I lived the pinoy dream, where even the work and leisure travels are so many. And here you are trying to pull down others to your pathetic level.

And we really got lucky JB went off when it mattered
the most. Plus Gilas is obviously a work in progress, our starters JB, JF, Newsome are all in their mid 30s but we all have to be patient.

It's when JB, June Mar, and Newsome retire that we'll have something to worry about. I feel they're kinda close to retirement.

JB, shot creation, go-to guy, defense at 3/4, playmaking. Newsome, perimeter defense and guard play. June Mar, big man.

JB is like our version of Lebron, we may not see another player like him, that combination of talent, skill and character.
Kai& Edu should be good enough wag lang ma-injured, kaya im hopeful SMC can do something about QMB & Philipps in the next 3 years or so in terms of eligibility.
For Newsome, i guess Winston and Koon (same as QMB&Philiips) would be great replacements

Sbp/cone should take a look on harper jr and boogie ellis as NP. We should get ineligible as NP like those 2.
