i thought SJ is around 6'1?
More like he's only around 5-foot-11. Iskati Thompson or Robert Bolick is taller than Belangel. I think both Iskati & Bolick are around 6-foot-1.

It sucks as fuck when a team coached by CCR, who still uses the DDO is dominating a system-oriented team coach by the current NT coach. As much as I want Ginebra to have their revenge, this better be done in 4-5 games for Gilas.
Actually nga, TNT did it through defense. Denied Brownlee passing lanes and clean looks. That's the real surprise from Chot, the defensive-oriented identity of TNT. In the past, defense isn't the first thing to come to mind when discussing Chot Reyes in recent years.
Couple that with Chot using actual small ball, using RHJ at the 4, which hasn't changed.
It got me thinking nga, e. What if Chot were this focused on defense and used a more versatile small ball lineup with Gilas, one where he doesn't sacrifice size and defense at the wing?
Same how Brazil beat Gilas, stop Brownlee and it's over already...
Based on our Latest Pool
Seems like we will stick with
Kai, AJ, Junmar, Japeth Rotation at the Center Spot.
Well, Brownlee can play small ball 4 too.
As much as some hate Junmar and Japeth in International Competition. They are still the best option bigs from Pba.
Anyways, hope Kai and AJ will be fully healthy next window against Hong Kong and New Zealand.
He didn't have the personnel.
Back then Rdo and Ping are our 4s.
Sometimes went big with Blatche/Young Junmar/Young Japeth
And it's not like we had a local who can effectively play as small ball 4 or small ball 5 like RHJ or Brownlee
This is my same testament why Gilas beat Jordan in Asian games finals.. Gilas is still atleast top 8 in Asia w/o Brownlee but if you pull out RHJ or any import of Jordan, they are lower than Indonesia or KSA… our locals are good compare to Jordan… if RHJ is still available, I would love to have him as our naturalized player.. he can fit on every single player on the court…
I think Gilas' edge over Jordan is bench depth. No doubt, Jordan's starting 5 of Al Dwairi, RHJ, Freddie Ibrahim, Amin Abuhawas, & Hashem Abbas is rock solid. But its 2nd stingers or relievers aren't that good. Only wingman Sam Bzai is reliable enough. Veteran center 6-foot-11 Mohammed Hussein is beyond his prime already.. Gilas on the other hand aside from its solid starting 5 of Kai, Brownlee, Dwight Ramos, Newsome, Iskati, has guys like Junmar Fajardo, AJ Edu, Carl Tamayo, CJ Perez, Jamie Malonzo, Kevin Quiambao as 2nd stingers. Wala kang itulak kabigin sa mga yun. Eh wala pa nga sa team sina Jordan Heading, Rhenz Abando, William Navarro, Justin Baltazar, Schonny Winston. Those guys I think are serviceable for Gilas especially in the Asian level.
I think in a window qualifier where you got to play only 2 games per window, a shallow bench would still be ok. But in a tournament format where teams get to play 5 to 7 games, bench depth is going to matter a lot.
Japan and Philippines are kinda having a lot of depth in terms of Asian Level Natonal Players.
Jordan is kinda in the rise too. And Lebanon even if El Khatib will retire soon, if not retired yet.
Usually, it was China, Korea, and Iran.
Iran is significantly weaker imo.
Iran was one team that we really memorized their full starting 5 of Kamrani, Sahakian, Bahrami, Garduce, and Hadaddi.
Korea, I cannot even name one star player that stick in my Mind in 2010s. But their ball movement and shooting was always a problem for us
China is always strong because the never lack 7 Footers. Every decade, they had like 3 or more 7 footers. Lmao.
Bro, Fadi El Khatib has retired from the Lebanese national team years ago, & he's now 45 yrs old if I'm not mistaken. But I think Lebanon has become deeper now. Lebanese basketball now is unlike the 2000's in which yung starting 5 lang talaga yung malakas while the 2nd stingers were insignificant. Current Lebanese national team has depth with good quality guards, wingmen & "fours". Yung center position lang talaga mahina ang Lebanon eversince.
Iran used to have a solid starting 5 with Haddadi, Bahrami, Sahakian, Kamrani during the golden generation of Iran basketball. But since the retirement of those afirementioned players, biglang humina starting 5 ng Iran. But I think current Iran team has some depth in its roster with skilled & good size wingmen, "fours" & guards. And Iran has some promising young players whom I think would be key players of the national team in a few years time. But I think malaking kawalan sa kanila si Haddadi. Iran doesn't look like having someone in Haddadi's caliber at least for now.
What happened to Amos? I dont see him playing that much with the La Salle team. I have doubts on whether he is the right person to be in Gilas. Amos, to me, is like Isaac Go. Maybe Isaac Go is better.
