This is where I have an issue with the 3-conference format this season, before a FIBA tournament proper. It ends in July. That gives us a month, maybe even less, for Gilas to rest, train, and call up injury replacements. Plus, we risk our key PBA players (June Mar, JB, Newsome, Scottie, CJ) being exposed to injury, especially given that every PBA player in the pool except Oftana and Malonzo will be 31 or older.
I hope the season ends in mid-June or earlier for us to have time to rest and call injury replacements.
Not that hard to imagine. The PBA probably doesn't give a damn about those FIBA dates that Gilas isn't playing... but let's assume whatever team that makes it pushes a Gilas-filled Ginebra team to a Game 7 in the Governor's Cup Finals, both 21 and 24 are home games. Two days after, they start the Commissioner's Cup. They're not driving to NAIA , flying to a stopover in the Middle East/Turkey, and connecting twice to somewhere in Europe... they're driving to Ultra from Meralco Ave anak ng.

They made it clear they're having a break on Feb for those last two away games against Taipei and NZ... Gilas doesn't have anything after Feb except the FIBA Asia Cup from August 5 to 15 when the PBA doesn't have any specific dates on the All-Filipino Cup other than March to July. So fine, assuming the worst case scenario All Filipino ends July 31 next year and they don't do an effing thing to adjust the PBA season for World Cup Qualifying (basically copy-paste the previous year's schedule). That's just 3 days after the end of the tournament assuming Gilas makes it all the way to the final of the FIBA Asia Cup.

We don't have a Charles Barkley-like personality that calls out people for being stupid. All their games start late noon the earliest so there should not be an excuse for whatever you call this iteration of the SBP with San Miguel to bitch about the things Tab was complaining about and Chot had the misfortune of messing up. They badly wanted to have a National Team of players who know Triangle shit because that saves them time, they already have the support of those s̶t̶e̶a̶k̶ e̶a̶t̶e̶r̶s stakeholders whether they're UAAP padrinos or PBA Board members. It's going to be another layer of problems if they aim to make the World Cup again with a World Cup window in August, EASL in October, another World Cup window in November, the SEA Games in December, and a final push for the World Cup in Feb... before they run this shit again in August 2027 with the same problem of when to start the PBA.
And outside of the current 14, here are the guys that have trained and played under Cone for Gilas:
LA Tenorio (2019 SEA Games)
Matthew Wright (2019 SEA Games)
Greg Slaughter (2019 SEA Games)
Christian Standhardinger (2019 SEA Games)
Art dela Cruz (2019 SEA Games, training pool)
Vic Manuel (2019 SEA Games)
Stanley Pringle (2019 SEA Games)
Kiefer Ravena (2019 SEA Games)
Troy Rosario (2019 SEA Games)
RR Pogoy (2019 SEA Games, 2022 Asian Games; training pool in both)
Chris Ross (2019 SEA Games, 2022 Asian Games)
Marcio Lassiter (2019 SEA Games, 2022 Asian Games)
Arvin Tolentino (2022 Asian Games)
Kevin Alas (2022 Asian Games)
Jason Perkins (2022 Asian Games, training pool)
Calvin Abueva (2022 Asian Games, training pool)
Terrence Romeo (2022 Asian Games, training pool)
Mo Tautuaa (2022 Asian Games, training pool)
LA's currently 39. Marcio's 37. Abueva's a 6'2" forward, 36 years old, and can become a liability with his antics.
Vic Manuel is a 6'4" bigman who can't guard, even in the PBA. Pogoy and Troy don't exactly have good track records in FIBA. Kiefer and Wright also don't have the best track record in FIBA games. Ross, Perkins, Mo, CStand, and Pringle are ineligible. Arvin's a volume scorer who can't defend at the 3-spot. Terrence hasn't played a game for Gilas since the brawl, is injury-prone, and is a defensive liability. Greg is falling off. Alas is currently on his 3rd ACL injury.
This is why we absolutely need to expand the pool. If one of the key PBA guys goes down, another will step up. Integrating into the system is hard, but we have the Asia Cup windows to help with that. The effectiveness in FIBA of the eligible players who were previously called up under Cone aren't exactly the best, with the exception of Marcio and probably Terrence.
