Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

Cone is saying that only Kai, JF, Edu and Japeth can play C in Fiba. Even Japeth has some problems. So when JF and Japeth retires and if Edu is injured we only have Kai as C. Boatwright cant play C in Fiba. Who will be our 2nd C when Edu is injured? Soft Chiu?

That's why talent identification, homegrown, fil-for or FSA, is important. SBP needs to incentivized schools who recruit fil-for or FSA at the high school level.

I think as Cone says we are just in a short unique period when two generational Pinoy bigs can play on the same team. June Mar and Japeth could not do it without an NP center. I dont think Kai and oft injured Edu can do it either. PBA has to accept it also. Removing import height limits is a way for potential center NPs to play in the PBA. We are just in this short unique period where we can afford to not have a center NP. When JF retires we need one.

In addition, I hope that UAAP jrs. team should recruit young players (13-15) from other countries as their FSAs. We could lure some of them (2-3 players) to play as locals for Gilas once they are naturalized.

I think identifying homegrown is not really that hard as we could find them anytime. Identifying fil-fors will be more challenging but as long as we have connections there and the parents are cooperating, there should be a little problem. FSAs should be identified as early as high school IMO so, by the time they play in college, they are atleast developed.

Anyway, Snow has a rumor that the PBA is on the process of shifting back to two conferences and that's the reason why Ginebra wants to have its own grand slam run. If ever that the two conference format comes back, I hope that the import-laid conference allows one import of unlimited height plus naturalized players/FSAs of unlimited height.

severe disconnect with our Youth development and Senior Team. Even if they wont win tourneys the main goal of the youth team is to hopefully provide players for the Senior Team.

I don't know why big guys like Tumaneng were not included in the final 12 this SEABA. He may be raw but development should be as important as winning.

Meanwhile countries like Japan and Taiwan are putting together their young players in a youth team and sending them to compete against tough competition in order to develop them.

Dayun ur and those in his coaching staff are not known to be on the so-called Development and Exposure category.

rather they are in the "Win Now" category and voila!! we are now part of the history book of WC U17 2024 history.

oh dear..

that is why.

I stand to be corrected.

SBP knows the schedule of the Jones Cup every year but they don't do anything to take advantage of it.

The UAAP is a very short tournament. SBP should have convinced the UAAP early on to move their calendar so there won't be any conflict with the Jones Cup.

If SBP had any ounce of foresight, the Jones Cup should be the biggest tournament for our U22/Cadet team annually.

We could have sent the following guys:

Mike Philips
Policarpio
Abadam
Lebron Lopez
Jacob Cortez
QMB
Alter
Bayla
Pre
Cagulangan
Cabanero
Jumamoy

I have the feeling that Josh is more of a professional coach than a development one.

You could add Luis Pablo, Seven Gagate, Rey Romogat, Patrick Sleat, Art Roque, Mark Belmonte, Alex Konov, Zain Mahmood, VJ Pre and Forthsky Padrigao in there

See, we have more than enough players to form a pool like Japan and Taiwan.

More of a barangay-level coach. Seriously, what are his credentials that made him suitable to be our youth coach?

Still brought multiple RP youth teams to the WC. He is not world level though and not a good developmental coach.

This. If he was a nothing coach, he'd flame out much earlier. There is something there, but just not at the level we need.

Those Kai Sotto-Carl Tamayo-AJ Edu-led youth teams? Come on, they will make it to the World Cup even without Josh.

Our u-17 team? The one that has an average losing margin of 51.2 ppg, including the 62 point loses to Spain and Australia, a 59 point loss to Lithuania and a 96 point loss to the US?

He should just take a coaching gig in some low-level leagues first before trying his wares in big leagues the like PBA as well as our national teams.

Nepotism.

he is chot’s son who is friends with Panlilio and MVP.

This is the right answer. May I ask both of you Sikatrix and Deku? If Josh is not a Reyes or a son or relative of some influential people, will he be considered as a coach in our youth team, let alone in the coaching staff of TNT?
