Oh, i thought ballesteros was just a dud, didnd know that his handlers messed up his career

AFAIK, J-Ball was a vital core in Toroman's Gilas 1, outplaying Al-Hussaini, Aldretch Ramos, and Maierhoffer to become a regular. He, together with Mac Baracael, didnt have a remarkable pro career unlike contemporaries JV Casio, Lassiter, Barocca and Japeth of course. But maybe they achieved more than Chris Tiu, basketball wise.

I remember he sustained a left knee injury coming out of college that he never fully recovered from. Even during his stints with Gilas 1 left knee issues hampered his play but he was still servicable enough to be the back up center when Douthit rests on the bench. He even mulled retirement in 2013 just two years afrer getting drafted, and admitted that he cant move the way like he used to during his college days. But being 6'7" he still got signed by a D league team and eventually found himself back into the PBA for a few years before bouncing around minor leagues and settling down in the MPBL. He was another case like Rey Guevarra who got injured on the tail end of his college career and never got back close to the same player that he was once before.

I hope this wont be the case for Lastimosa

Appointing Pineda is like appointing Pablo Escobar.

Escobar actually had a successful football club in Medellin, Atletico Nacional. The Cali Cartel also had a pretty successful football club, America de Cali.

Shame how the 1994 FIFA WC turned out for Colombia, though.

Here's my take on who should be considered first per position:

Guards: Bolick, Heading
Wings: Navarro, Lopez, Bayla, Harris
Big: Carino

Bolick and Heading are the best options at guard, and Heading's no slouch on defense.

As for the wings, defense should be the priority, so it's Navarro, Lopez, Bayla, and Harris. Same rationale for bigs, that's why Carino should come first in my opinion.

No love for Baltazar? He is the most impactful non Gilas player not in the pool... With Baltazar, we don't need Japeth anymore...

I have to see him make an impact in the PBA first. Has he retained his mobility, something like that?

He already proved even he's not yet in the PBA when he was there before... And I'm sure he's a good fit with Triangle system... He's like JDV..

Japeth still 6'9 and has been a placeholder 5 for us even internationally..but balti has proven to be a good 3 outside asia

I can see the apprehension of some posters here about the idea of including Justin Baltazar to the Gilas pool. Baltazar has relegated himself playing in a low level competition of MPBL which means he has soaked himself with that poor level competition that has a detrimental effect on his development as a player. Baltazar has to prove himself that he can play in high level basketball before he can earn nod of coach Tim Cone & SBP.

For me the ideal No. of players in a national pool for a 4-year cycle is between 16 to 18 players.

Target for Exemptions should include
- Kouame
- M. Philipps
- QMB
- Barefield
- Koon (I dont think there's an immediate need for a player like Kai Ballungay, but Koon who at 6'5 can play the point seems more logical)

Expedite Development for the following
- Lopez
- Konov
- Harris

If all of these materialized we're looking at a pool for the next 10-12 years

Kai 7'2
Kouame 6'11
QMB 6'10 (looked 6'9 beside Sean Alter of UP)
A. Edu 6'9
Philipps 6'8
Boatwright 6'9

Konov 6'7
Tamayo 6'7
KQ 6'5
Harris 6'5
Lopez 6'5
F. Edu 6'4

Ramos 6'4
Koon 6'5
Barefield 6'2
Winston 6'1

How realistic can Kouame get a local exemption for us? And to think, is this something that the SBP is really targeting or considering? Or this is just a pipedream suggestion from Analyze?

Even QMB, how old can he realistically get that? Same age as Newsome at 33 yrs old? This is considering as well Newsome's residency in the Philippines (since college). I doubt QMB will get an exemption anytime soon.

from that five, only Mike Philips and Chris Koon have the most realistic chance to be considered as locals.

You can throw in 6'8 Jayden Harper. I think he's eligible as local.

that was 4 years ago, he regressed since then. last time he played international ball (dubai strong group) he exclusively played as a big and can't keep up with wing players
