Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

Snow is now suggesting Gov Delta Pineda as the next SBP president.

The SBP president job feels like figure head role nowadays. More related to PR.

Much of the work carried out is done by the executive director (Erika Dy),

If he’s interested, I think Gabe Norwood would make a good SBP prez. He is very likable and not hated by any of the basketball camps.

Chualay, Chot, or anyone affiliated with SMC or MVP is bound to create divisions.

Those big guards could be the trend

The absence of traditional point guards in the line-up of coach Tim Cone raised some eyebrows, but after a solid showing for Gilas Pilipinas in the OQT, one can no longer question Cone’s decision to use natural twos as his main playmakers.

Newsome and Dwight Ramos did a great job as they shared orchestrating responsibilities with CJ Perez for Gilas Pilipinas. The return of former PBA MVP Scottie Thompson to the mix pretty much sealed Cone’s rotation in the guard spot.

The importance of having bigger guards couldn’t be more evident in the OQT, especially against European squads like Latvia and Georgia which play very physical when it comes to on-ball defense, often putting pressure on the ball handlers full court.

This isn’t to say that we don’t want to see the brilliant smaller guards like RJ Abarrientos and SJ Belangel don the blue and white once again, but it pays to have options.

we still need a reliable PG even to bring down the ball or inbound pass. There are too many turnovers for us on those plays for such competition.

Regarding Snow Badua, I read somewhere that Governor Pineda has invited Snow multiple times to Pampanga and see how they train and scout players for their youth teams so basing off on that I think Snow is in the good graces of the Pampanga governor to a point he might be a low key PR guy for Governor Delta.

i think we are thinking too much into Dylan. but ill stop with this one last post. The top 5 schools that was recruiting was Duke, Indiana, Rutgers, Kansas and Auburn. He said no to Duke and Kansas to stay in New Jersey. if im not mistaken, Rutgets is just over an hour from where the Harper's live in New Jersey. it will not look good for him as a prospect if he rejected these schools only to circle back. the players are a brand of their own. he needs to look at his best whenever he is taking any basketball related moves.

tama, dapat magpaka batak. if someone is willing to draft him, he is a consensus top 5 NBA draft prospect for 2025, wouldnt it be best he plays in the NBA and\or g league after the draft instead of staying in school? He will get paid a lot if he gets drafted in the lottery than going back to any school.

personally, if i am hoping for a miracle here, is that sana he has a ph passport already and willing to play for PH and that SBP and USAB agree to let him move AND FIba recognize him as a local. his brother can be NP. separate problem when they dont play during NBA season. but thats wishful thinking and i dont like thinking of that when im not in interbasket. hahahaha

yes Sir C2,

just for a good conversation and healthy discussion..I'm learning from you.

and we all know it's really difficult to explain everything in writing.

it's like having a job interview and explain everything about What is a Network Infrastructure as a whole, the Hop to Hop and End to End Packet Communication, IPv4 Subnetting and OSI Model related to Cyber Security encapsulation format.

it's better to bring your own whiteboard and marker to explain all the intricate details if given a particular troubleshooting scenario.

I love my work.

I don't like Al Panlilio but Delta Pineda as SBP President is a huge downgrade. it's like going from iPhone Xr to iphone 4

For me having a below 6-foot point guard for Gilas from time to time in Asian level game or competition would be ok. Pero 1 lang dapat.

While we clamor for good size point guards in the national team (at least 6 feet point guards), I think its also about time that we also improve our size in the 2-guard position or more known as shooting guard position. Hope we'll have a number of 6-foot-4 shooting guards as national team prospects in the years to come. Imagine a 6-foot-4 CJ Perez or a 6-foot-4 Chris Newsome or a 6-foot-4 Paul Lee. I think such height improvement will have a significant impact.

Pineda's reputation belonging to a family of gambling lords concerns me. Its got a shady reputation. Ang hirap dyan baka magkaron ng point shaving sa mga laro ng Gilas! Instead of being concerned of how Gilas would win, ang mangyayari eh magiging concern ang SBP president kung papano manalo ng malaking pusta.

Ditto. Players are surely well taken care off but the problem is the allegations of being a gambling lord. Not to mention he was blocked in being a gov in pba right? I heard long hair had something to do with it so there already a divide. Im all in for someone who has no favorites and can unite all the interested parties so that we can assemble the best possible lineup in the bigger tournaments.

Regarding that issue of Converge's attempt to appoint Delta as their team governor, I recall reading about how Phoenix, Blackwater and ROS (basically all the supposedly independent owned teams) were okay with it but the SMC and MVP block were the ones that opposed it and made reasons and rules to prevent that from happening. My guess is that the old farts didnt want someone they couldnt push around during board meetings. And I think regarding game fixing allegations, I doubt Converge or Pineda will do that and risk expulsion and getting banned. In the MPBL its already a given that poorly funded teams engage in that shady business and we can argue that is their sole reason of existence in the first place.

So does that mean even MVP has something against him? As for the game fixing possibility, its true it doesnt appear he game fixes his team its just that do we really want somebody that has ties to gambling to be the figure head of philippine basketball? And im kinda worried that if he gets the job he might show his preferrences for his kampanpangan players. While they're good, pampanga isnt the only hot bed of talents in the country.

Dealing with pineda is like dealing with chavit singson, mpic and smc dont want to deal with things they dint understand and cant control

highly unlikely Pineda will be appointed as SBP Pres. He is reaching too far. I hope he sticks with MPBL and developing the youth in Pampanga. If he can produce taller and better Baltis and Serranos for Gilas then thats enough. Converge hasn't even won anything yet in the PBA. He needs to prove himself first and build good relationship with present stakeholders.

SBP President should still come from SMC or MVP group as they hold the money. However, I think MVP is already tired of handling Gilas and I think part of their agreement is to let SMC handle Gilas going forward. The SBP President should have the stature of a corporate senior executive where he should be the same stature as other senior executives of other countries. The son of Ramon Ang, Jacob Ang should be a good candidate.as he is a sports enthusiast also.

He wont get appointed but he can use all his resources and clout to take over SBP

Target for Exemptions should include
- Kouame
- M. Philipps
- QMB
- Barefield
- Koon (I dont think there's an immediate need for a player like Kai Ballungay, but Koon who at 6'5 can play the point seems more logical)

Expedite Development for the following
- Lopez
- Konov
- Harris

If all of these materialized we're looking at a pool for the next 10-12 years

Kai 7'2
Kouame 6'11
QMB 6'10 (looked 6'9 beside Sean Alter of UP)
A. Edu 6'9
Philipps 6'8
Boatwright 6'9

Konov 6'7
Tamayo 6'7
KQ 6'5
Harris 6'5
Lopez 6'5
F. Edu 6'4

Ramos 6'4
Koon 6'5
Barefield 6'2
Winston 6'1

The good thing about Delta Pineda is he spares no expense in building up his teams, we can see from his track record that he has built and funded multiple champion teams in the PSL, MPBL and other minor leagues. From what I can gather I think we cant question his passion for basketball and being a person of power and authority he doesnt want to lose.

But I do agree he is too polarizing of a figure to be the head of the SBP, as early as now we know that the SMC and MVP old farts are intimidated by him so getting cooperation from all basketball stakeholders with him as SBP president is impossible. But letting Choke Reyes worm his way into that position is another disaster that should be avoided.

since Delta Pineda and Lao Family has a tie-up with Converge maybe they can just focus on minor and pocket tournaments such as Jones Cup and Dubai Basketball Championship. It's still PH representation anyway. He can field MPBL and amateur players there.

Leave IOC and FIBA sanctioned tournaments to SBP.
