Since geo chiu, raven cortez, or carino did not turn out to be NT materials. The best bigs Gilas has a realistic chance to getting are hepa and tolentino. Kahit isa lng sa kanila, we can have a more stable frontline for years to come

yeah fck they scouted us well. you see how they bump newsome after the first pass and how they throw 2 guys to Junemar upon catching. Brazil was very "technical" as well in limiting our options. That 2nd half was a defensive masterclass. I think ultimately, that semis game showed we can't have typical Tim Cone short rotations because international basketball will wear your players out. Look how tired JMF and JB looked in the 3rd qtr. We need more options we can go to when JB and Dwight gets cold, and when JMF gets shut down.

Defending against the Triangle Offense is an open-source application.

Winston does have an excellent mid-range game which fits the triangle. If he can raise his defensive intensity, he is someone that can be a candidate for the Newsome role.

Then guys like Caelum, Bayla, etc are next in line.

I did wish Newsome would take more shot as he had a good advantage against his defenders. He could shoot over them with his mid range pull ups. He has the biggest advantage among our players. That sometimes I wish TC would do on certain games rather than play straight up Triangle offense. Go early on the mismatches like what we did with JC or Castro

Agree. I think coach Tim should give Newsome some latitude on offense. We understand Newsome main's role in the team is defense, but we can see that he is a threat on offense. As you've mentioned he has that reliable pull-up jumper from mid-range. Newsome is also a good finisher off the break.

there are still legit pinoy kids like Gagate and Demisana but we don't know if those kids are fit for basketball, they might develop the Kobe Paras disease. Hopefully we're not looking at a dud generation of bigs

In your opinion, besides Abando and maybe Mike Phillips (if he gets that exemption), who do you guys think Gilas should get to improve the team for the next World Cup and the upcoming FIBA Asia Cup.

Lets hope for a good showing by dalph panopio in the KBL, this will be his try out for Gilas.

After Kai-edu-tamayo, the well of big men suddenly dried up for Gilas. If wala talaga, lets go the fil-for route which started with andy siegle, taulava, penissi, slaughter, edu.. kaso puro guards and wings na ang fil-fors natin ngayon

I think Geo Chiu still have chance in the future... All he needs is to be good defender.. it's not easy to find 6'10 (?) big man here plus he has international exposure in the past...

SMC refused to lend its players back in 2015, where the CTB coached PHL finished second to China. SMC could've lent Fajardo, Japeth, SuperUbo, Arwind, LA to beef up AB, RDO, Ping, Castro, Gabe, TR, Abueva, etc.

I think that was the easiest path to the Olympics as we've beaten Iran, Lebanon and Japan with a rag tag team, and AUS and NZ werent part of the FIBA Asia yet. Only China was on our way.

Turned out, SMC was also on our way

Ironically SMC is still in our way. They are hell bent to prove that a PBA import is better than Kouame, a guy with a decent Fiba record. They also avoid guys who rub them the wrong way. TC is the coach but Chua calls the shots on personnel. Remember when TC said Balti’s camp rejected their offer? It was probably Chuas reply to him. TC got his foot in his mouth when coach Delta announced that an invite never came.

TC planning to talk with Heading after Latvia is a good sign. Eventually TC needs to override Chua if he feels its for the better of the team.

He market will determine Ange's standing but if he remains in D3 French ball, I dont think he deserves to be the NP for Gilas.

Ange does offer roster balance after JB in case AJ's injured. AJ's our only reliable interior defender, and Ange might replace that need if Kai doesn't improve that much on defense (although Kai did defend well against Latvia).

We did defend well as a team against Brazil and Latvia, but you never know.

Yup until we have more options, Ange is someone we need to look closely at.

Why are we so fixated in exempting Kouame. Thats close to impossible. We dont even give our NPs opportunity to play in the PBA. The question should be is can we continue to deny Kouame the NP slot? JB is aging and can be limited by more athletic teams. Boatwright is just a one dimensional shooter with a wingspan just equal to his height of 6’9.5. Edu is often injured. If we hope to reach higher comp we need a center NP. Kai is good but he wont be as strong as JF nor even Kouame. He is best as a stretch 5 and not a post player. We need Kouame for that.

As for Bennie pala, he can shoot, but the concern I have (or had) with him is his defense. Wasn't the best defender in the PBA and in China. The good defense we played against Latvia and Brazil might minimize the defensive concerns a bit, considering that we played with June Mar and Kai for extended stretches.

He can fit, but like sir sroth3839 said, he shouldn't play alongside June Mar. Also, we need perimeter defenders like Dwight, Scottie, Newsome, and CJ alongside him so that there will be less load on him when he's involved. We need AJ and Kai alongside Bennie as well.

It was probably SBP which never invited Balti, not Chua, because the PLDT group and Converge are corporate rivals

Geo Chiu is a decent backup C. He is a decent defender but he is soft. Unfortunately, there is no eligible C coming up with starting potential. Kai is good but he is more of a faceup guy. Without JMF we might play like Latvia with no post presence. Which is not bad.

Demisana, at 6’8 with long wingspan had potential. But his skills have declined. Gagate is 6’9 but has a short wingspan. He will be a 4. So we have 4s like 6’8 Tamayo and 6’7 Balti.

We have no center except injury prone Edu and Kai. We have no post presence. But again we can emulate perimeter oriented Latvia. It will just be a drastic change. Poor as JF has been at defense he has always provided as offense in the paint. Just his presence alone in the paint gives some pressure. Without him we have to adjust without having it. Kai is more of a faceup guy. Unless we bring Kouame. We lose a high scoring perimeter NP but gain a post presence NP who is an excellent rim protector.

Without JB and JF, even with Kai and Boatwright we will lose a lot. Both Kai and Boatwright are more perimeter oriented. Boatwright is not a good slasher or post player. I think that setup would be hard. I would rather have Kouame’s defense and post presence than Boatwrights shooting.

Im just happy that Chua is amenable to having foreign based players in the team ( dwight, kai, edu, tamayo), baby steps. if this was similar to 2018-2019 the entire roster will be composed of pba stars and be marketed as the best philippine team ever assembled.

And we witnessed one of the worst rosters assembled in the 2019 WC. Hahahahahaha.

Ange should be classified as a local.

pero wala eh. Mataas masyado pride ni Panlilio. To him, Ange is part of Tab’s circle and that’s an automatic disregard.
