Any chance Goldwin develops Bayla as more of a 1/2 than a 2/3? I think Bayla has better potential as a secondary playmaker compared to other big guard prospects in the past years.

May I ask, how good is Bayla's ball handling? Is his passing really that impressive?

Not super amazing but his ball handling is good enough. His passing isn’t amazing or anything but he has good vision and can make a good pass to an open guy

Ah OK.
So he can be a facilitating wingman sort of like a Rayray Parks or a Matthew Wright..

I think his defense will be what’s interesting, he can guard wings and guards 1-3 maybe even 4 in the uaap though he still needs to fill out physically

At least we have an SBP official who's pulling her weight and getting things done for Philippine basketball.

It seems things at the SBP are starting to turnaround with Erica Dy at the helm.

I think Erica is doing a much better job than her predecessor- Sonny Barrios. Parang walang nagawa sa SBP si Barrios eh.

That's the significant difference eh when you have a former basketball player or basketball coach as a high ranking SBP official as compared to a business executive as an SBP high ranking official. The former most likely will have much more PASSION than the latter in doing his/her job for the betterment of Philippine basketball.

Yan yung malaking difference eh.

I'll give Panlilio credit for appointing Dy. Might have been Ateneo connection, but so far, so good.

Hope Dy doesn't end up being a hated figure when her time with SBP is up.

Oh maybe that's the greatest thing Panlilio has done for Phi basketball - appoint somebody like an Erica Dy as Executive Director to replace an incompetent one in Sonny Barrios.

I like his ball handling skills, and potential to be a 3-level scorer. Passing needs to be developed, and his development rate will say if he can play the 1 or bottom out as a secondary playmaker.

I see him playing the 4 as his worst case scenario (no development from now up to his prime), 3-spot is his current trajectory, 2-spot is very attainable while developing 1-guard skills is a super-stretch goal. He has very solid physical tools.

I already said my piece on Kai in this thread, I'll just have it as a side comment to this post. Kai has to either match or surpass Ange on defense and rebounding by November next year.

Interesting on AJ's ceiling, a, but I agree that he's the best fit with the current Gilas pool. He can play 4 next to Kai, and he's our only good frontcourt defender, which we need to address after JB retires.

AJ is a 3&D big, a plug and play player in any system. Can play as a lone big, and being a local, he can partner with ANY of our other bigs (Kai, benny, jmf, ange, carl, japeth). Needs to strengthen his lower body tho, which i will bet he already knows. He is a smart kid on and off the court. I say he has the lowest ceiling because I find it hard to see him develop other facets of his game--particularly ball-handling, scoring, post game--to a high enough level. I think this is already how he will play, and his improvements will come on technique and health/physical standpoint.

Kai's development this year in both b-league and gilas is very eye-catching and makes me feel optimistic about his trajectory. I'm high on him surpassing Ange on your timeline, maybe not on those particular skillsets but as an overall player, kai is going to be better. I always thought he has the lowest floor of the 3 but lately, he is showing that he has the highest ceiling as well. Playing in good systems in both b league and gilas, i am in the opinion that he can actualize nearer to his ceiling than to his floor.

My expectations for Jacob Bayla is his floor is a Chris Koon while his ceiling si a Dwight Ramos.

That's possible. But I would include an asterisk*. His floor is current* Koon.

I think future Koon still has high upside. His broken foot last season delayed his trajectory. Koon at the same age as Bayla won major awards in HS along with winning state chips. Several D1 offers.

He was like a Ginobili in HS...lefty, same height, same position, same style. If he was entering college just now, he will be highly sought-after and projections about him will be very high.

Sir Jams,

Sonny Barrios is a PBA Grandpa.

you know what I mean.

no offense to those typical grandpa out there..I love my own kin.

but the PBA Grandpas are a different animal as far as running the show specifically our National Federation.

Gilas needs more wings who can defend the 3. I feel that if you're not a star scorer in FIBA, at the wing, the best choices are wings who can defend their man, and then shoot.

Hopefully, Bayla and Harris can develop into those kinds of players, Lopez, Briones, and Belmonte too.
