His rebounding stats in Mexico & the CBA aren't impressive.

I looked at rebound percentages, not raw rebounding numbers. They can be a better indication of how good a player is at rebounding the ball on either end. On offensive rebounds, threshold is maybe 9-10%. On defensive rebounding, maybe 17%. Total rebounds could be 15%.

Low offensive rebounding numbers could be attributed to him usually being used as a spacer on offense. His defensive reb% are encouraging.

Basketball brawl in a ligang labas somewhere in Bulacan. As seen in the video, Kevin Quiambao was fouled hard (KQ crashed to the floor) by Alpha BA. Alpha is a FSA from LPU Batangas. KQ’s teammates quickly came to his defense and attacked Alpha while Quiambao tried to be a pacifier. A number of guys then took a couple of kicks and wild swings towards Alpha. Of course the FSA returned the favor with gusto and connected some solid hits while his assailants missed their target like drunkards. Lol. Thankfully, cooler heads prevailed and defused the fracas.

IMO, the handlers/mother teams of our Gilas players and also the SBP, must be vigilant on their ligang labas activities. The security there is pretty much non existent and a player can be mauled or worse be stabbed or gunned down by a mindless moron. Hefty pot money, pustahan plus a rowdy environment is a perfect recipe for unfortunate disasters.

I'm thinking maybe former Talk n' Text import 6-foot-8 Cameron Oliver may be a better choice as Gilas next naturalized player. Like Boatwright, Oliver also plays at the 4 spot, can operate inside & outside & is more athletic than Boatwright. I think Oliver has a better defensive skills & rebounding that Boatwright.

We can say we have bias for Oliver given his physical tools can really be handy against the likes of japan (who plays fast so if we counter it with a guy with that big and that strong and that skill)..

But still believe that opportunities given to our naturalized players is enough compensation for them(Asian leagues Supply and demand). No more marcus douthit like allowances or Blatche like perks (having 6 guy entourage) everytime he comes for gilas

He had a torn ACL didnt he? He might not be as explosive if he ever has.

Oliver tore his ACL in high school.

Well, due to the advancement of sports medicine, an ACL tear is no longer that detrimental to a player like it used to be some 30 years ago. Guys like Allein Maliksi, Robert Bolick, Kevin Alas suffered ACL torns (Maliksi & Alas in fact had multiple ACL injuries), yet its as if they never had ACL injuries with the way they played after such injuries. Even AJ Edu who also had multiple ACL & MCL injuries played well for Gilas & in the B-league.

I saw the latest andwil yap videos today. The first time i saw this guy, i thought that there could be no more worse physical specimen for basketball than him.

But, he endures.

The sheer determination to make something of himself is now showing. He is actually mobile for a young 6'7. But not yet quickly and effortlessly moving into positions where he can score and rebound at the highest chances. The utter lack of tutorials from intelligent, highly productive pinoy big power forwards -- 6'8 and above -- who can show him to at least move like kai sotto towards dominance points is obvious. Other than tamayo and baltazar, there are no peak pf ballers who he can train with.

Those short videos of u17 training clearly showed that nobody trained him to move as a power forward. Is the u16/u17 still under some reyes useless coaching? The best, not the worst, coaches should be in these age groups when productive styles of attack and defense are being developed.

With prospective SENIOR national players with the dedication to work their butts off like him, i see future power forwards like andwil who can bang right through something the size of fajardo with ease.

That owen calinasan boy (6'9 now?) also is a good candidate for a national power forward. Both players would be very good for the 2024 u16, and usable for the u17 too. Why were the sons of 3 ex-pba players, who are 6'6 and taller, not invited to the u17 pool? Sharma, reyes and de ocampo look like good u17 candidates.

We know that those midget u17 players will eternally be first in attending all national training opportunities. They are the most disposable, and they know that. But u17/u16 international tournaments have very little need for midgets, despite their great enthusiasm and willingness. Hindi paliitan ng team ang basketbol.

The last u16 team very fortunately won over a garbage japanese team. That trashy lineup will be brutally destroyed in the world u17, where world-class youths are participating. If you dont believe me, can you identify players in that team who will have excellent offensive and defensive abilities to be selected for a mythical world 5?

2 names that I think could at least play decent against world level competition are Kieffer Alas and James Sanderson. I'm more intrigued though in the highly possible inclusion of 14 yo Prince Carino who will still be age-eligible in the next iteration of Fiba U16/U17 comp. He's around 6'5-6'6 (based on his pic beside RDO) and moves like a young Carl Tamayo. Still young but plenty of potential.

That Sanderson kid is very interesting. Imagine this early, as according to Zero Buckets (vlogger), Sanderson got offers from NCAA div. 1 schools. This kid must be so talented. I just hope walang palakasan sa Batang Gilas team tryouts.

I feel Alec Stockton of Converge deserves Gilas pool consideration, maybe not now but perhaps a year or 2 from now. Stockton improved significantly this year. Yes he has some flaws in his game but I think he has the skills, plus he's a good size point guard.

I remember about 5 years ago, there was that idea of some posters here that CJ Perez should be converted to play as a point guard or a combo guard for Gilas. The hitch is, Perez hardly played as point guard for SMB, hence he lacks the reps playing such role. Stockton on the other hand is playing as a point guard for Converge, hence he's getting the reps.

I feel Stockton would be a good back up for Iskati Thompson at the point guard spot, again maybe not now but a year or 2 from now.

Agree. Alec Stockton is lowkey player, unorthodox. people don't know how good he is. Can score, shoot, pass and defend. he's like chris newsome with less hops a bit. he's eligible to play for gilas.

Should be Panopio who gets the point guard slot. He is the perfect complement to Kai and AJ.
