Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

We hope CTC or one of his crew reading our post here or even in some social media sites… I’m also really surprised he didn’t pick Heading… in his system, shooters is a must, from Gomez, Arigo, Fonancier, Simon and Chan… triangle will not work if no shooters… even famous Phil Jackson have Steve Kerr, Horry and Fisher in his line up…

Newsome's aging. He'll be 35 next year. For sure, he will need a replacement at guard. Heading, Parks, SJ, and RJ are the best candidates for the job. I think inviting Heading, SJ, and/or RJ, even as reserves, would be good for them to learn Cone's system.

that 12 man team is not literally(at some degree) the same come 2027 because they are fully aware that the possibility that someone may get hurt along the way(wag naman sana malala) up to 2027 cycle.

the important thing is still the system CTC wants to inculcate on those players as a foundation gradually until such time it's almost second skin to them, if someone gets hurt(i hope it ain't the majority) then adding some few may not compromise the core of that foundation.

I really had a gut feeling that AK34 may get the exemption once the PBA tweak their dilapidated eligibility rulings on Filipino players in the very near future.

well Balti and Heading may eventually ended up playing in the PBA that's inevitable.

and once it happens, the strong possibility that those 3 may end up playing in a major FIBA sanctioned event down the road

let's trust the new ED for now..I think she's doing fine despite dealing with the politics and nepotism culture on both empire.

Its very obvious that it is not about the 12-man pool, when someone mentions who should be in there (sana si heading, balti, or chiu) its about missing your favorite players being chosen. The fact is no one will really be satisfied with any 12-man pool because we have our favorites. Obviously, if you look at our line-up, its already very strong, good mix of youth and experience, good mix of guards and bigs. Besides, these are the players who are chosen by the coach as the best set of players who he thinks can work well in his system. We are not the coach.

Heading is very available but I guess CTC has reason for choosing newsome or perez over him. We can only speculate that maybe CTC thinks newsome or perez plays better defense. Newsome singlehandedly stopped RHJ in the last AG.

In the eyes of CTC, who will Balti replace? Tamayo? Quiambao? Edu? Brownlee? Ramos? He is not better than any of the players I mentioned.

But what about the injuries? Someone already mentioned CTC's short rotation. Also, once AJ and JF recovers, the replacement will be out of the team again.

From the makeup of roster there are 2 replaceable guys in the team outside Brownlee Junmar and New..thats already 3..

Replace it with whom tho?More guys from the Ginebra/SMC teams that he's comfortable with, not from the Bleague,KBL or Euro guys.

Most feasible replacements:

Brownlee: Ange, JC, Boatwright
June Mar: Baltazar, Mason, Arana
Newsome: Bolick, SJ, RJ, Heading, Parks

Mason would be the most likely June Mar replacement, as he was on the list for this window, and Cone thinks highly of him. Pwede na rin, turns 20 this year and is already a good shooter.

For JB, this early, I think Boatwright would be the choice if he gets naturalized. Cone says that he and SBP are sending feelers. Let's hope Kai improves his defense, since Bennie's a defensive liability. Ange has played for Cone, and JC has known Cone too.

As for Newsome, tough to replace. He's one of our best perimeter defenders, but at the same time, shooting and/or creation from the guard spot would be nice.

I'm not really feeling Boatwright. We need a better Kouame /Kai and Aj alternate. Someone who can anchor the defense. I'm surprise they're considering him cause he to me is more of player that Chot covets than TC.

Yeah. JB's replacement after his Gilas retirement has to be a good defensive anchor. Doesn't necessarily have to be Ange, but someone who can anchor the defense, and ideally be able to play alongside both Kai and AJ.

Guys, talking about our next NP prospect to replace Briwnlee, I think about 2 yrs ago SBP was interested on former TNT import 6-foot-8 Cameron Oliver & I think Oliver expressed interest of playing for Gilas. What happened?
I think compared to Boatright, Oliver has better defense & his offensive skills are no slouch. Cameron is deadly inside as well as from the outside & can also drive strong to the basket.

I think Oliver is your typical stretch 4 naturalized player.

Having similar height and build, i see Bennie Boatwright as an Ange Kouame with a better offense but worse defensive abilities. The former's offensive ability level aren't miles and miles ahead of Ange's. Bennie's is just more developed because he's a US basketball system product but even so, i don't think he's good for Gilas long-term.

Boatwright is around 6’8 1/2 without shoes. Kouame is 6’11, I dont know if that is without shoes. They play different positions. Boatwright is a stretch 4 who is not really good defensively. Kouame is a center who can block shots and rebound and switch. He can finish in the paint too.

i don't know maybe no D Bennie is just a spur of the moment thing, as normally when an import in the PBA showed something good, there's always a news about naturalization but it's only Brownlee who was naturalized among the recent batch of good imports, not even Terrence Jones who is a much better player than Boatwright was naturalized, but one thing is for sure Cone has a good eye on choosing a naturalized import , as being backed up of his import choices in the PBA , were most of them won Best Import award

Can't blame the SBP on this.

I think one of the main consideration they are looking for now for a candidate is the attitude of a player, they could easily convince and hired a very prolific NBA level type of a baller but later on they discover(ed) that it has a cuckoo in the head..therefore it's a high risk high reward thing and they don't want that.

enter JB, BB, Manila Bey and J3, not your typical high level guy but all screws are in the right places as per observation by their respective PBA coaches and teammates and SBP both empire, likes that.

After this window, we need a reserve pool of bigs. Get even Carino and even Jopia in case one or more of June Mar, Kai, and AJ miss windows due to injury.

Who was this player? We had lots of "difficult" players who don our NTs colors but I guess it's different when you consider the costs too

Arana, Baltazar and Carino,

how's carino's performance in the pba? last time i saw him he played like a much shorter kai sotto. he needs to be more than that to be effective internationally. maybe develop a 3-ball and get stronger in the post

Still soft but contineus to be an active help defender. He has improved his lateral movement and from time to time is able to guard imports out on the perimeter. He can knockdown the occasional three and has improved his abiility to finish around the rim off drop passes
