Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

  • Thread starter Thread starter IPC2

FIBA rules and regulations would mean shorter game times for PBA. Shorter game times = less time for TV ads. I remember sometime ago about it being discussed here, mentioning that that is one of the reasons why such set-up is rejected by the PBA board.

so can we add guest teams so there will be more games given shorter games? they can use the NT as guest team 1 and another random(like bay area, i know they are gone but good guest time example) to add a bit of flavor in the PBA?

Sir, as for adding a guest team or two, i surely hope so, however that would mean additional games that might cause for conferences to take longer to finish, but i believe that can be solved by staging triple-headers on certain game days like they did during the pandemic years. For sure, the level of competition will rise, and also the "nguy-ngoy's" of those opposed to the idea, lol

If they were able to make adjustments last year and from the seasons past (Centennial era, 2002 Busan Games), i hope they would also be amenable in the next seasons, more so that it's the one and only CTC who'll be at the helm and no other else foreign and belligerent.

CTC already mentioned, in the link i put above, that NT will not play in the PBA. i only said that as a reaction to PBA games getting shorter if they change to FIBA rules. and yes, if they add teams, 3 games a night to make it appealing to fans. you get to watch more in a single night instead of buying tickets for multiple days.

this first year is important to CTC and Coach Richard. all the probs that we know, and they know thru CCR, will happen and they have to adjust on the fly. all good, i hope for the best, but their initial plan based on that interview is too PBA friendly instead of just NT focused. we are doing ala-USA approach. fine. except there is a detail we can see but i barely here people point out. NBA only plays for the big games. any qualifiers or regional games are played by non-NBA players. based on CTC's interview, the core 12 will play all games as much as possible (understandable for sched conflicts and injury). but anyway, im getting ahead of myself. i am confident CTC and coach richard will adjust. they havent even started. kapit lng muna but i expect some changes as we go forward. im not really too concerned with players though. thats just a good topic to talk about but not really concerning for now.

My Gilas B team

Guards:
Robert Bolick
RJ Abarrientos
Rhenz Abando
Jordan Heading

Forwards
William Navarro
Arvin Tolentino
Kenneth Tuffin
LeBron Lopez
Mason Amos

Centers:
Angelo Kouame (NP)
Justine Baltazar
Justin Arana

They are both short tournaments.

Chemistry is already amongst Scottie, Junemar, Oftana, Perez, Brownlee, and Newsome.

Only Dwight, Tamayo, Edu, and Kai needs to be re-integrated and they are not that new.

Why did he not give an alternate NP. How long was Kiefer suspended? It was more than a year right? So who will be our NP in the immediate future?

Ange

Clarkson during off-season.

We will most probably have a new NP within the “4-year cycle”.

I have no problem with the preparation time, this is the start of the program the main goal is when the real competion starts in 2027 a month training camp will be more than enough because the core already stablish the cohesion and the chemistry.

My concern is in the interview ctc said he will go with 11 players what if more players get injured? for me he should get 14-15 players or add kouame atleast... JB is old, we need a back up, and Edu is injury prone, Kai team is pabebe.

2 games per window naman e and they can change roster per game nobody will be left out.

Actually this is also strange to me. It is virtually impossible to stick to the same 11 local group for all the games in the 4 year cycle. My interpretation is that this list is the list both TC, SMC and the PBA can agree upon now. I highly doubt that if he had a choice he will not pick Balti, particulary when Balti generally played decently against international comp in the UAE tourney. But it seems there are players he cannot pick right now. I hope the issues with Balti, Bollick or even Heading eventually clear up so TC can pick them.

He’s building a 12-man CORE for the next 4 years. CTC isn’t stupid and he knows there will be availability issues. Each iteration of Gilas for the next 4 years will probably consist of 6-8 players from that core who are invested in CTC’s system plus 4-6 additions who will learn from the core members.

Yeah… that’s why I expecting additions, especially those who known CTC’s system… probably on my list is Arvin Tolentino, he knows CTC’s system, and he’s what, 26 or 27 years old.. so he is surely Tim’s back up plan.. another one is Kouame, for obvious reasons, back up NP and knows CTC system too, due to Asian games stint…

Arvin turns 29 in November. Ange is the 26yo player (who turns 27 in December).

You guys are taking things too literally.

The 12 players are the main core for 4-years.

It’s not THE final 12 who will play.

This February window is not too much important in terms of capability of opponents… we all know our opponents are Hong Kong and Taipei, we always arguing before that 2-3 weeks is enough especially that HK is very weak… kahit siguro walang practice vs HK eh mananalo tayo because our superior talent against them… while against Taiwan, they are much better team than HK.. but we are confident we will beat them.. no need to win big against them… The point here eh he is already looking at 2027 WC… Kumbaga unofficially eh nag peprepare na tayo sa 2027 na dapat ganito na nung 2023 palang.. Yung OQT eh magiging part nalang ng preparations for 2027… so it means expected that we will not take OQT seriously… atleast the core 12 is already known at di na tayo mag guguhol pa when 2027 WC is approaching.. by 2027, they are ripe now atleast upsetting some European teams and finally making into 2nd round or qualifying for 2028 Olympics as best Asian team..

Arvin turns 29 in November. Ange is the 26yo player (who turns 27 in December).

That’s ok, that means Arvin will be 33 in 2027 while Kouame is 31.. still on their primes in 2027… CTC’s tenure is just until 2027 (or 2028 if qualified to LA Olympics)… bahala na SBP beyond 2028…

CTC said this is the core until 2027… but he also said that he will tap some players in case of injuries or unavailability of some players… maybe he will add players who are already familiar in his system (Tolentino, Kouame, Romeo)

Yep. Bunch of old people that contradicts what sbp said that they wont recruit 33 years old and above players..

he's aware that edu is injured and brownlee is uncertain he should add more instead of sticking it.

CTC’s plan is until 2027 (or 2028 if qualifies for LA Olympics), So he doesn’t time ample time to get more young players… like you, I want young players for future tournaments but we also know that CTC doesn’t trust too much on young players unless they are very talented such as Edu, Kai, Tamayo and Quiambao… if you look at the age range of his players, they are not probably old as you think…

Brownlee is oldest at 35
Fajardo (34)
Newsome (33)
Perez (30)
Thompson (30)
Oftana (28)
Malonzo (27)
Ramos (25)
Edu (24)
Quiambao (22)
Tamayo (22)
Sotto (21) is the youngest

this is good actually, mixture of young and veteran players… we already saw in Gilas 1 of Toroman that all young crew is not enough because having veterans is a must, and atleast we have the likes of Oftana, Malonzo, Edu, Kai, Ramos, Tamayo and Quiambao that can be the core until 2031… looking at the big picture, this is probably the best program that CTC/ Gilas era of SBP did…

Plus 4 years they'll be 39, 38 and 37.. point is it contradicts what dy said about they wont get any players 33 and above..

Actually, sir SK, Atty. Dy said what she thought in Kume Eala's radio show. She says that sana, we shouldn't have the roster consist of too many 33+yo players. Didn't totally rule out including old guys, but acknowledged that there should be continuity, so we can't have the roster consist entirely of 33-year-olds.

In that line up newsome and perez are place holders for heading and abando

Heading might annoy Cone too much on defense so Im not sure if thats who he'd want. In four years, Kieffer Alas would be 20 and is the kind of tall point guard Cone is looking for. Hope he develops well. Dalph Panopio is 6'1" so he can also fit if development is good.
