Aj is injured, brownlee is not sure yet, malonzo is injured too

they need to add more players, CTC probably don't want to cut players so he decided to select 12 players only but we need a pool so we can start a long term program now and injuries happens.

they need to invite Kouame, heading, RJ, SJ and some amateurs players to the pool.

Kinda disappointing by that decision i hope di lang nila na announced other names...

The 12 is the core group, as per SBP: https://twitter.com/justinebacnis/status/1751924293876011130?t=jAqQK81d51BXJBsh5FFyCA&s=19

No real shooter from that core group...And also what will happen to the Quiambao to UAE rumors? Is he accepted the rumored offer?

Let the kid sleep on it. Obviously we want him to playbfor gilas but if accepts it at the end, kudos to him. He has his own life to live and we should respect it.

Isnt kq considered a shooter now? if he remains with gilas, you have him and JB that can knock down shots consistently.

good mix of youth and veterans, though i share robert’s concern on the lack of shooters

as mentioned by SBP, whoever the coach name this february will be the core till 2027.. well we have newsome and brownlee who are 33 and 35..they should include younger players that will play together till 2027 the least..

also the issue is cone isnt known handling young players.. that contradicts

KQ has the final decision where he wants to play but because if FIBA eligibility ruling, maybe it will not happen...

i hope they add more players to the core, young prospects sana, one or 2 over 30 player is enough for leadership role.

So Bolick is being left out once again. Bolick for me is the best point guard in Phi basketball right now.

I believe that Mark Caguioa could have been an Asian-level guard - even better than Jason Castro. He was not given that many chances to do so. The guard rotation of Alapag, JJ Helterbrand, Caguioa and Hontiveros could have been deadly had they accustomed themselves in FIBA earlier.

Agree with this.
Caguioa is like a bigger Terrence Romeo. I think among our guards & wingman at that time (2007), Caguioa is the most skilled offensively.

Barring any injuries, I can see the following from that list making it till 2027 WC (assuming we qualify):

Dwight
Kai
Edu
KQ
Tamayo

For 2025 Asia Cup:

Dwight
Kai
Edu
Tamayo
Brownlee
KQ
Oftana
Scottie
Newsome

So the depth chart will be:

PG - Scottie (main PG) , Newsome , Perez (combo guard at most)

SG - Ramos , Oftana

SF - Quiambao , Brownlee (can play PF too)

PF - Malonzo (can play SF) , Tamayo

C - Edu (can play PF) , Junmar , Kai

Good line up, most players were picked can play multiple positions, can defend and not disadvantage in height... Although we need shooters... I hope Heading will be included in the pool...

I think Oftana and Scottie will be there in 2027 too... Both still young (by our standards), Meanwhile who will be our NP in 2027? JC? still JB? Or someone else!!!!

3.5 years is a long time.

- Brownlee turns 36 this year and will be 40 by 2027. That’s too much. 2025 Asia Cup is more probable unless the SBP wants to tap Clarkson.

- Clarkson is 35 by 2027 so it will depend on his health.

- We'll probably have a new one by then. I hope they get someone like 2014 Blatche.

- I'm on the fence about Scottie and Oftana. Calvin has not yet exceeded expectations in FIBA, while Scottie is, at best, a PG who hustles and delivers when needed. At the Asia-level, Scottie can deliver but he struggled mightily at the world-level.

With how unpredictable the SBP can get, I think we should have our forecasts up till 2025 Asia Cup for now.

For reference here are the player's ages that are named for the upcoming FIBA window:

Kai Sotto - 21 y/o
Carl Tamayo - 22 y/o
Kevin Quiambao - 22 y/o
AJ Edu - 24 y/o
Dwight Ramos - 25 y/o
Jaime Malonzo - 27 y/o
Calvin Oftana - 28 y/o
Scottie Thompson - 30 y/o
CJ Perez - 30 y/o
Chris Newsome - 33 y/o
Junemar Fajardo - 34 y/o
Justin Brownlee - 35 y/o

I dont think Newsome, Brownlee and Fajardo are ideal to be in that 4 year cycle plan the SBP is talking about.
