BRP & Malonzo are a waste of playing spots!

Invite Wright & Lopez and if possible Perkins.

I think I just saw Malonzo's left knee buckle. Oh, man.

Looks like Malonzo might miss some time. We will need a replacement ready. Navarro, Arvin, Lopez, Policarpio. We need a 3, ideally someone who can defend. If Abueva, stopgap measure at best.

Is Navarro healthy enough to go back to the pool? I'm not really impressed with Scottie enough in Fiba. We still need Bollick for the PG slot. At the 3, Newsome is actually good enough. He was able hold his own against RHJ.

This is honestly the perfect time to call up a younger prospect at 3, given that we'll play Hong Kong and Taiwan. We need to get the younger ones some burn and exposure, as well as secure our prospects at the wing. We can't have Newsome guard bigger players all the time.

Lucero… if only.

Lets invite AJ and Will to observe during practice. we will have a new coach better for them to use this time to learn. no need for them to play in practice or actual game

Yes. That's true. TC is also a teaching and a defensive coach. It would be good to bring in young SFs and have them improve their perimeter defense.

Quiambao and Heading better get Gilas consideration after this.

I think if coach Tim is given a free hand to choose his players for Gilas, most likely he'll pick Quiambao & Heading & even Baltazar for the Gilas pool.

We actually now have too many options at the 3 spot, and those options are good size natural small forwards - Dwight Ramos, Oftana, Quiambao, Will Navarro (though still recovering from a long sideline becoz of injury), Ken Tuffin, Javi Gomez-De Liano. Never in the history of Philippine basketball did we have this pool of good size small forwards.

I have no doubt Carl is a better option than Amos. Heck, I think Balti should also be considered. It's just a matter of their willingness to play for Gilas.

I think if coach Tim is given a free hand, he will pick Tamayo & Balti, & perhaps even Mason Amos whom he described as a 6-foot-7 Allan Caidic.

Not just Wright, I think even Belangel & 3dy is worth at least a try-out.

Lopez improved shooting, hustle, and not playing scared/mayaman>BRP/Malonzo combined.

I believe they're working on Perkins exemption.

although im not necessarily against adding players on the pool, unless CTC gives hints what his overall plan is, i dont think having traditional tryouts at the national level is a good use of time. one of the problem that CCR encountered during his time is:
  • b league and KBL will let their players go on 2 week breaks for FIBA games aside from the end of season break.
  • PBA will adjust when it wants, to allow players join the NT. that can be for 2 weeks to a month or so (ie Asian Games)
having a tryouts means you are getting the best players now, durng the tryouts. problem there is, if most of the players you get is either PBA or non-PBA. the scheds wont match, you guys say CTC is good at teaching. teaching takes time, time that he nor PBA cant control if the player is on another league.

i think they'll get mostly PBA players with a few "bunot" from abroad namely Dwight, Kai, Rhenz, and AJ. special place for KQ in case he leaves DLSU and does not go to PBA straight. Ange will always be an option with JB if he is cleared. a new NP will be chosen as we go along as PBA coaches historically get NP that takes over offensively. something Ange doesnt consistently do.

as for the young players, maybe in fans' eyes the players abroad has more potential, but PBA still has a few they can "develop" with Gilas. i mean, a few months ago fans\posters has been giving out names of Winston, Tuffin, Carino, WNavarro, Arana, and Mamuyac. next draft, if the following goes to the PBA then we will have guards Lastimosa and Escamis among others. again, some might favor those who are in B league and KBL, but you can argue that these players still in the country can grow and develop under CTC and follow his timeline.

the other "tryout" CTC can do is randomly put players in different qualifiers to see if they fit what CTC has in mind. which is fine and I dont mind as a fellow fan. but that doesnt really help with schedule of players. CTC will most likely have a pool with a core that will most likely have a schedule same to him. in short, core will be PBA and everyone else is bunot.

anyway, as per Homer Sayson last night, SBp is to formally announce CTC's appointment today with the "core" players. all the best to them! whatever happens, some fans wont be happy but hopefully they do what they know they can best work with.

Actually, PBA core is fine (I think I might have had a different stance before), as long as (1) they're good in FIBA, (2), most of them can last until the end of the cycle, and (3) they can train for tournaments proper for at least a month (can't have 2017 and 2019 happening again, where we lacked training time with a hastily-built and poorly constructed team).

As for Schonny, Tuffin, Carino, Navarro, Arana, and Mamu, youngest are Arana and Mamu, who turn 25 in May and March respectively, so most of them are not that young in a sense (I consider young players as U25). That said, Will has developed with Gilas since the June 2021 window, and he's shown his worth. Carino has developed well too, as have Schonny and Tuffin. The others could have FIBA-translatable skills (though I am a bit iffy on Arana, since he's only 6'7" and has exclusively played center in the NCAA and PBA; he'll need to play 4 at his size and be able to guard the pick and roll, otherwise he needs a 3-ball).

we are hoping the 4 year thing is intact.i dont have preference where the player comes. I care SBP comes up with a plan and they see it through

you are talking based on your view. all good with me, but for the discussion, we have to look at it from CTC's view. he and Coach Richard is making the team. if 28-29 for them is young, then it is what it is. i just hope whoever they pick, those guys are given enough time to play and develop. chemistry should kick in if they playing together for 4years.

I forgot about Tuffin. I think he is decent defensively. I guess I am just bit biased for decent defending SFs. So Javi and Arvin are low on my list. KQ showed decent defense recently but it has to be tested more.

TC likes to use tall versatile players at the 3. But with the availability of a good rim protecting center and PF unsure I think we need to prioritize getting good defenders in the SF spot.

It's not just my view on the age part. From what I gather, 27-29 is the average age for most basketball teams internationally. In the NBA, young is U25 (26 is the average age). In European football, it's U21. We view youth differently in that we still consider players 27-30 as "young."

Pero, all the same, I think the 1995-1996 batch (the 27-28) is good enough to make a long-term core.

Agreed. As soon as Will Navarro gets healthy, he should be a priority. Having a backup to Dwight and Oftana could serve us well defensively. Arvin can block shots in the PBA, but that's only part of what we need from our SF, especially if we don't have Ange and/or AJ.

In fact, we need defenders at 2 also. Newsome and recently Heading come to mind. CJ Perez can blow up plays, but gets blown by on on-ball defense.

if noone signs tamayo and Balti goes to the PBA, even if its a non-SMB\TNT team, thats 2 additional wings\bigs at CTC's disposal who has international experience. If Heading gets traded to another PBA team and signs, yet another option. Dalph should be finished with college ball this year or next. lkaya pa humabol.

an ask I have that might not be pro-PBA, is if for some reason CTC is forced to drop GInebra temporarily, is he finds another league or even just short tournament, where he can practice his plays using Fiba rules without much expectation on winning. i know he can adjust, but like the players, he needs the reps.Coach Pop, for all his greatness as a coach, struggled in FIBA. its not that he cant, but he needs reps too.

I would like a scenario of both Oftana and Quiambao as Sf/Sg with both Parks and both Dwight and Parks as the SG,plus Heading playing the backup pg to the true pg,if possible Tamayo and Balti in also both forward combo since AJ won't be available.
