I can't rely that much on highlights. I mean, for instance game highlights would hardly show whether Dwight plays some point rules or not.

The way I see it, Dwight is more of an off-ball offensive player in his teams in B. league. He's got handles and some play making in him, sure, but he can only be a tertiary ball-handler at best if played in the same time as a wing import and a Japanese local pg. Not really a bad thing because he compensates in other equally important aspects of the game such as defense and hustle.

He rarely plays point and he's ok in Bleague, whenever his coach wants to go big and the locals rarely challenges him, cause of his size he plays the 2 position alot since the imports play 3-5 but in some highlights he did play 3 sometimes,so he's pretty much an all around player.

https://tiebreakertimes.com.ph/tbt/...aturalization-pending-parents-approval/293313

In his short period here in the Philippines, Akowe felt quite at home as he found that the country had similarities with his homeland.

“I say it’s almost the same as Nigeria, so I adjusted easily. I don’t go out as I only study, train, and play basketball, but every person is different. Some are bad, but a lot of people have been good to me,” he shared.

It might be too early, but with the skills he has been showcasing, the idea of naturalizing such a talented and teachable baller would not be a remote possibility.

And Akowe very much welcomes the idea. However, there is one condition.

“It’s not for me to decide. I have to talk to my parents first. If it’s fine with them, then it’s fine with me. But if not, I can’t go against their will,” the 18-year-old said.

“But, if ever, it won’t be a problem. It is a great opportunity for me. It will be an eye-opener; so yeah, that’s a good idea.”

KQ is just the latest UAAP player being recruited by international groups. I think its safe to say the UAAP, with an unlimited height FSA all year long and rules probably closer to Fiba, has an environment closer to international competition. I think we should gradually move out of gulang basketball. Its a bit embarassing that players who went from college and skipped the PBA play better internationally than many PBA stars.
All I need is to look at Parks, Adams, Kiefer, Greg, Wright and Cabagnot to prove this notion wrong.

Too many people confuse 2019 Romeo to 2024 Romeo and think it's the same player. Tbf to Parks, he was a wing at the UAAP just 'coz it's a matchup nightmare... but in Nagoya, their local players lose spots if they use him like how he was in TNT.

Well, Old Cabagnot and Washington still getting offers abroad... Romeo can do the same if SMB somehow release him in the future... Even old James Yap still getting rumored offers overseas...

Romeo is like, someone who will give you 3 straight very good games, then gets sidelined in the next 12 games becoz of injury. If Romeo is a jet fighter, he'll get the label as a hangar king.

I think sir Rds was referring to NT performance too. Carl has performed well in FIBA. Will Navarro (now a PBA player) plays well in FIBA. Dwight Ramos is a good FIBA player. Heading was already a professional when he played with Gilas, but he hasn't played in the PBA, and he played well.

Plenty of PBA stars have flopped in FIBA, like Wright (although he plays in Japan now), Pogoy, Troy, Sangalang, Almazan. Still, there are guys like Terrence, Abueva, Scottie, and Newsome. Heck, even Oftana (although he did start in the NT before entering the PBA).

I watched Kume Eala's radio show: https://www.facebook.com/PowerandPlaywithNoliEala/videos/338748819121546

He interviewed Erika Dy. The interesting part for this thread starts around the 1:42:10 mark.

She said the following:
-Still negotiating with the coaches and the players. Hopefully, they can announce next week.
-We cannot have a roster that's too old. Although we operate in 4-year cycles, if we start with too many players that are aged 33 right now, they will be at the end of their career by the end of the cycle, in 2027. That will disrupt continuity. Hopefully, we have a lineup that's composed of a mix of vets and up-and-coming players.
-We have to send our best, but our best can also come from the amateurs. Kume Eala also said that we have players abroad.

Meanwhile Kai has added nothing new to his game. Watching KQ and Kai play is like night and day. You don't see the fire that KQ has.

I could be shitting on myself talking about it because if you took out the Atenista out of Kai and had that Barangay Bayanan boy inside KQ, he might have had a bit more fire.

That said, Let's just cross fingers KQ upgrades to something a bit more apt like a Barangay Poblacion instead of going full-on Ayala Alabang once he makes it big. Signing pro basketball contracts and playing for bonuses isn't enough to afford trust funds for children. One career-ending injury or several off-court incidents, he'd wish he'd have Kai's career.

For whatever reason... either injury or just being content, they normally become soft once they earn more than their actual worth. We've seen it... Duremdes, James Yap post-marriage settlement, maybe Brian Heruela before SMB ruined him, Bolick now that he's back and still living off the Northport max deal. It's not fair, but we don't know how much longer this Kai bandwagon lasts even if we all know he can say "fuck it" and take a chance with a PBA team that will own (and obviously trade to TNT/Meralco/NLEX) his draft rights til he turns 27 when he'll be just another Japeth.

I read somewhere that players don't like playing in preseason games. They treated that game like it was a pick up game they were forced to play by the league and it showed.

and most of the players are still out of shape around sept, and of course they dont want to risk any unnecessary injury playing all out against a team from a lower tier league

summer league is another animal,. young guns showcasing their skills and old vets exerting all efforts since this is their last chance to make the nba or get a good contract overseas

sucks that Kai doesnt have this sense of urgency, oh well

Kai's attitude and the mishandling of his handlers have turned Kai's career from "potential" to "pathetic." Too bad Kai grew in privilege so he didn't see the need to do extra work.

If that's the case that Kai has added nothing new, as in not improving his effort and defense, it's clear now that we need a defensive presence at his position. AJ sana, but with his injury record, we need another option, whether eligible or naturalized. If we have to use an NP to anchor the defense, so be it.

I'd like a repeat of our good defensive performance, but we need the personnel to do it. We need a defensive presence at the 4/5 spots. We haven't had that since Ping for quite some time, until we got Ange in previous FIBA windows, and then AJ in the WC.

I like AJ/Kouame rotation at the C spot a lot better than Kai/ AJ. Kai has been really bad lately to the point of unplayable because of his lack of D and no real advantage in offense.

With Kais perennial stamina problem and lack of growth and with AJs injury risk the importance of a center NP is highlighted.

Not just a center NP. A center NP who can defend. AJ and Ange are our only defenders at the 4/5 positions. Yes, we have Dwight, who can defend 2 to 4, but that's not enough.

We haven't had a local who can serve as a defensive presence at the 4/5 positions since Pingris. That is, until AJ came along, but he's also injury-prone.

That's why I really can't believe that we can easily toss Ange aside, when he's been one of our best defenders. I don't want another 30-point blowout where the opponent shoots 60% from the field and 70% from 3 (yes, I'm talking about the 2017 SoKor game).

The Asiad gold is a testament to Kouames effect on the team as much as anything. Yes even up to now Kouame is criminally under appreciated by the public.

The public is willing to overlook the fact that we have only AJ (who's currently injured) as a reliable defensive anchor for more firepower. Yes, I get that we need a go-to guy, but with the guys we have now, we especially need a great defensive anchor at the 4 and/or 5 spots.

Sorry, it really pisses me off right now.

We probably could have won more games in the WC if we got more production from our backup C. Seriously AJband JF could have used more help..However it was obvious that our team was going to live and die with JC.

Yeah we don't have enough plus defenders and shooters IMO

We do have some plus defenders. Dwight, Newsome, Navarro, Thirdy, and Oftana. Heck, Scottie could defend well too. Abando showed good man-to-man defense in the WC. Heading has shown glimpses of good defense too in the Dubai tournament. Problem is, none of them are as impactful defensively as AJ and Ange, and none of them play their positions. Man, we really miss a guy like Ping.

As for shooting, well, we'll just have to live with Heading and Oftana. Arvin's an option, but we sacrifice defense. Wright chokes in FIBA. I dunno where Parks' head is right now. If he's ready, try to welcome him back.
