Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

  • Thread starter Thread starter IPC2
  • Start date Start date
I just hope that SBP has been talking to our b-league players - Kai, Dwight, thirdy, Carl, kiefer, about their possible stint with Gilas in the coming 1st window in February.

We need those overseas players for youth. At least have guys like Carl, Belangel, and Abarrientos in the pool. Our team really needs youth. The Asiad core and guys like Abueva and Terrence are aging, we need to train their replacements once they get washed up (at least in FIBA play).

The best Gilas prospects in the PBA are mostly in the 29-year old & above age category while those Gilas prospects in the B-league & KBL are in the early to mid-20's age category.

I say the PBA guys represent the present of Philippine basketball while those in Japan, Korea & the current college players represent both the present & future.

What position does Dwight Ramos play in the B-league? Does he play the 2-guard more often? Does he play some point guard role?

I saw Dwight play some point guard with Gilas under coach Tab in 2021 & he lost the ball to steals or errors a couple times thereby putting some doubts on his ability to play the point.

Well, that was 2 years ago. He may have improved in that aspect since then, hopefully.

It looks like Kevin Quiambao now has a better ceiling than Carl Tamayo. This wasn't the case 2 years ago.

Even if he doesn't play going thru the camps and practice is alot to abosorb,if he gets to play its a bonus and if he performed better than Mong 2.0,the better.

I hope this one is true. It's snow though and he isn't really an NBA guy. He could just turn pro after he's done with the SL.

He plays 2/3 in Japan, if I remember. I dunno if he was a primary ballhandler.

I have a feeling if KQ or a Tamayo will go thru those next level camps and practice, they both will come out guns a blazing and they're gonna be better, unlike Mong 2.0,he has the benefit of playing and training in the US thru HS,a short stint in Gleague,NBA camps and Summer League, you barely a see a significant improvement at all.

Snow says the Knicks are eyeing Quiambao for Summer League: https://x.com/snowbadua/status/1750429041172377602?s=20

Is that legit? Nah.. Snow is not a legit source of information…

Here's the best guys from the PBA: Castro (1986), Abueva (1988), Brownlee (1988; NP), June Mar (1989), Newsome (1990), M. Ahanmisi (1991), Alas (1991), Terrence (1992), Scottie (1993), Perez (1993), Bolick (1995), Arvin (1995), Oftana (1996), Malonzo (1996), Navarro (1997), Arana (1999)

In the B.League: Wright (1991), Parks (1993), Kiefer (1993), Thirdy (1996), Dwight (1998), RJ (1999), AJ (2000), Kai (2002)

In the KBL: Gutang (1997), Abando (1998), SJ (1999), Juan GDL (1999), Oczon (2000)

In college: Quiambao (2001), Briones (2002), Policarpio (2002), J. Cortez (2002), Lopez (2003), Mason (2004)

Carl (2001) and Heading (1996) are free agents. So are Cansino (1999), Nelle (1998), and Jerom Lastimosa (1998).

I put in the birth years instead of present age so that we can better project by 2028. And, over half the PBA guys are currently 30 and above.
