Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

  • Thread starter Thread starter IPC2
  • Start date Start date
The 1st window qualifiers for the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup is only about 7 weeks ago yet everything is still up in the air in so far as the composition of Gilas team for that window games is concerned. Everything is still uncertain kung sino ang ating mga players or kung sino ang magko coach sa Gilas.
What the hell are our SBP top officials are doing? Nagpapalaki yata ng kanilang mga b_yag sina Al Panlilio & Ricky Vargas!

This is incompetency at the highest level. When will these idiots start to get their acts? Kung mga 2 weeks nalang ang 1st window?

nothing new actually, SBP is notorious for cramming. They screwed up 7 yrs of preparation time for the WC, 7 weeks is just chum change for them

Cone says that they have a plan that will take us through to the 2027 World Cup.

No offense to coach Tim, but given SBP's history of lack of foresight, I'll have to see it to believe it first.

I'm hoping that there would be some significant announcement next week because February is just a few weeks away.

As everyone believes and very confident coming in this tournamen,a two week preparation will suffice.

Yeah, as usual. That's also the preparation period of the Japanese & Korean national team's as the respective pro leagues of these countries will take a 2-weak break to give way to their national teams' preparation

Sir Armir,

if that's the ideal timetable for that because club tournaments all over are still on-going then that how it is, the next thing we need to see is the availability of players in our respective bucket list.

It can work if you already have an established core and simply need to continue the same system.

Korea, for example, has utilized the same system with the same core since the 2019 WCQ.

When Tab took the job in 2015, he never got the time to implement his full Ateneo system. He just made a few alterations to Chot's style but in the end, our offensive sytem was still a Castro-Blatche 1-2 punch.

The main adjustment was our defense. That 2015 team was the best defensive team we had. Well, until this WC. Top 10 in DRTG in the WC wasn't an easy feat.

I just hope the defense sticks.

In my opinion,if you gonna cram I thought that 21 days is a safe number, you might not get everyone in practice but at least the core and reserves, plus it would give the coach an extra week to evaluate what type of offense he can cook up with in such a short time.

it seems that CTC will handle again the Gilas team because of the limited time on hand and as you said, its all about the Core and familiarity.

Ginebra will most likely make a deep playoff run and Im guessing SMC will be prioritizing that and wont make Cone available. I think they will be choosing another coach to handle Gilas for this window at least.

Why is Jong being overlooked? If this is a almost walk in the park, why not hand it to the next best coach? Hands down Jong has the experience and his schemes are not that convulated or difficult.

Sir Rick,

with the way Magnolia is playing right now I think amongst the team of the other empire, they are deadset(?) of guiding(?) coach ToChikits to that podium finish. if the idea is to pass the baton to the bench tactician, I doubt if they will lend him for the upcoming window...

how about Coach Leo or Coach George well for me..never mind.

Well, what about the pool of B-league & KBL players (if PBA players won't be available) like Kai, Dwight Ramos, Thirdy, RJ Abarrientos, Carl Tamayo, SJ Belangel, & maybe a Kouame if he's available - these are the members of Gilas team/pool in 2021 under coach Tab in which Jong Uichico is one of the assistant coaches? Then of course we tap Jong Uichico as the head coach. This line up already has a built in cohesion.

Then we add college players Quiambao, Francis Lopez, CJ Cansino.

OK nga if we combine these guys with the Asiad core (Scottie, June Mar, Newsome, Perez, Oftana, Brownlee) into one big pool for future windows and tournaments. These guys are the best we have, might as well use combined strength.

We will just have to wait and see who they tap as the coach, but I really think it would be some other coach and not Tim Cone. Jong Uichico being a lead assistant for so long in Gilas and currently not holding any head coaching position might be a strong candidate for that interim coaching spot for this window.

Not sold on Cansino at all, there is a reason why Coach Gold benches him the closing minutes in the finals. He isnt even that tall and skilled, Im even putting Alarcon over him as the better player.

Why is it even a question,Jong should always be the plug in HC whenever the HC is not around,he doesn't deviate from plans and schematics of the HC and the thing about Jong is when he design his offense and defense, ist always what type of players he has, sure there's a drawback on that but,you gotta work with what you got with a strong offense as possible.Plua the fact the Pinoy commentators will always mentioned Jong's pretty eyes whenever they have a closeups.

Sir Rick,

I agree on coach Jong...

but we all know CTC is the sentimental and obvious choice amongst the parokyanos..

let see..
