Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

The PBA selection is not too bad of a choice if they can backstop Junmar with AJ and AK,if available Kai,he needs the reps,he's been sitting his ass for a long, long time.Maybe also on the big guards of Dwight and let's see what Abando can really bring with plenty of playing time.As from the colleges Amos and Lopez, should be more than ready and capable if in the lineup.

Who said Dwight was one of the guys seeking payment? I dont agree with this. Even the NBA just focuses on insurance. The idea is that playing for the country is a choice and does not need monetary compensation.

I think that is only a rumor which could either be true or false. Rumor that could not be confirmed.

Here's the rumor.

Everyone will be surprised to know if who is the other player who rreportedly "asked for the moon" to play for Gilas in the Asian Games. Yung unang na confirm who asked for the moon is Mikey Williams.

The other one is playing in Japan who is a 6-foot-5 wingman & a certified babe magnet.

Dweet Ramos? Wtf! It's the result of SBP paying too much TF to JC & Kai. Expect other prospects to follow suit in the future. I hope this won't hurt our Gilas program.

Parang sya nga based on the clues provided by a youtube vlogger: walnut & the Golden Gate Bridge.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwight_Ramos
He played high school basketball at Walnut & he was born in West Covina, California which is near Golden Gate.

I called bullshit on that rumor, honestly. Because, Dwight flat out said that he wasn't going to play in the Asian Games.

Well, believe me bro, I don't want to believe that rumor. I have high regards on Dwight Ramos in terms of attitude. I hope it was just fabricated.

In an E.A.T. episode with Gilas players,it was revealed he played football in MiddleSchool,he looks big and probably played the Linebacker or Defensive End,tells you why he loves the physical contact and he shrugs it off.He already said that he can't play due to the Bleague schedule, this is just another smear campaign against the overseas guys, they targeted the most popular and succesful one Pinoy in Bleague, what a bunch of morons,Vargas probably behind it.

Exactly. Dwight backed Chot when the fans were bashing him. Guy's been professional throughout his career.

On the other hand, if the rumor does happen to be true, after what SBP gave Kai, I think Dwight was correct in asking for what he thinks his service is worth.

hindi hahahha, the team will be mediocre with him at 2.. he is a 3 at best..

Who are better options than him at 2? I'm thinking Parks, if only for his shooting (although he's no slouch defensively), and that's it. Newsome, for his defense. Any other option, we sacrifice defense.

If 3, good thing na lang that he's strong, because if he weren't, defensively, he'd be exploitable. I think he can guard the 2, 3, 4, thanks to his combination of strength and quickness.

He is a scrappy three he is strong.. he need to develop his back basket game as his offense really comes off the dirbble sayang yun strength if he cant exploit it..

Our 2's are reserved to brownlee's clarkson's heading and parks

Fair enough.

I think SBP should stop doing this. You can understand JC because he barely has any connections to the country. But for any eligibles it should only be insurance and a reasonable per diem. Kai exploited our need for a rim protector. With Edu there I dont think Kai has any leverage to ask too much. After his recent performance, he should be ashamed to ask something big.

Dwight's agent probably asked for an insurance money, understandable since they gonna pull him off the Bleague season and Vargas and company probably interpret this as asking to be paid. What a bunch of morons. They will stick with their SMC/PBA led stars, rather than pay some insurance money for overseas guys.Besides every win with their SMC led stars is a validation for them, that the PBA is still the best in Asia.

Win in international club competition first. PBA teams are currently 0-4 in the EASL this season, and TNT, SMB, and MERALCO have lost their last 8 EASL games by a combined 191 points (average margin of -23.9 points). If you're gonna say you're the gold standard in the Philippines, you better make sure the league's clubs play like it.

Now, the PBA's still a good source of talent. You still have Oftana, Navarro, June Mar, Newsome, Scottie, and Perez, maybe even Terrence. Guys like Schonny Winston and Ken Tuffin can be viable as well. Problem is, you can't just rely on the PBA anymore. Talent pool is getting smaller. We need to supplement with non-PBA players. If we go an all-PBA lineup for the next few FIBA games, we will be looking at a long rebuild from scratch.

local for local daw na labanan sabi ng mga peenoise para magkaalamam

trans: PBA governors are too full of themselves and the Asian Games inflated their egos further

edit: talent pool in the PBA for fiba eligibles are getting older too, JMF is probably good until 2027

In terms of play style Stephen holt is good fit for a 2 too bad he is ineligible..

The PBA top honchos lived in a parallel universe, the fact that they multitude of fans who believed this.

Good news for Torculas and Belmonte is they're both 20, and still have time to grow. They have to grow fast, though. Belmonte could use some improvement on perimeter defense, while Torculas could be better at shooting and finishing.

At least Lopez could go overseas due to his talent and upside. My issue with players going PBA has been worries about Gilas availability, seeing how the PBA didn't adjust well for the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup, the 2019 World Cup, and the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup. That, and the fact that some players have to go to the right environment in the PBA to develop properly (Troy Rosario didn't develop well with TNT, for one).

more like troy already peaked, if people were expecting him to be an international small forward-wing then they should've dropped those expectations early on as troy was and has always been an agile undersized power forward with range

I meant, he was just a rebounder/stretch 4 in the PBA. Poor defender, which is honestly a waste of his motor and agility. And in FIBA, he was a poor shooter who can rebound a bit, and a defensive liability.

Darn shame, honestly, that Troy didn't develop well, and that affected his usefulness for Gilas. Now, I think he shouldn't be considered in the pool at all, considering that we already have guys like AJ Edu and Carl Tamayo at four. Even Dwight plays 4 better than him. Heck, Mason and Baltazar are better options (they shoot better, at the very least, Balti's a better help defender, and Mason is 19).
