Weird again is who among FSA our so called modern bigs. Who has shooting and have handles. Who has those skills Diof, KQ or even Mike Philips?

Momowei looks like a skilled guy. Don't remember if he shoots from the outside but from what I saw in their first game he has good handles and quickness for his height of 6'9.

I think the FSA bigs are more for size inside (or in the case of La Salle, having another body) than having a modern skillset. It's the higher-upside locals like Quiambao, Mason, and Carl that have to have the skillset of a 4.

He's only 6'9"? I thought he's 6'11" at the least. Perhaps because of the long wingspan which is why he looks bigger than he actually does. Anyways, we need a lot of players in the PHL basketball landscape in the same mold as him, may it be FSAs or mixed Pinoys.

We are gonna need a new NP if Brownlee is suspended for a while right? I don't think european leagues acknowledge FIBA windows. Maybe Diouf or we stick with someone like Holt or CStan?

Phenom Championship Clinic has taught him some guard skills

UP use a ton of three-guard lineups, though. They did line up Chicco Briones at 3, but Belmonte, Lopez, and Torculas play 4, although they do handle the ball at times and attack from the perimeter.

It's probably because Gold wants to play his vets/older players more. Most of the big players are new/young. It'd be interesting to see them in the coming years.

It's very simple. The FSAs including Mike has the size, athleticism and speed. If they also had the skills, they'd be in D1 or europe.

I feel Francis Lopez can be developed into a Calvin Abueva type of a player - an energy & hustle guy. While it wud really be a tough challenge for a Francis Lopez to match the scrappines & tenacity of a Calvin Abueva, we have to remember that the former is about 4 inches taller than the latter & is more athletic. Talent-wise, I think they are about equal although Lopez being only 20 yrs of age at present can still improve his shooting & ball handling.

If Lopez can exhibit the same guts & aggresiveness that Abueva demonstrates in pushing the ball & try to score in transition everytime there's an opportunity, I think it would be a very significant aspect of Lopez' game just like it is in Abueva's game. Imagine a 6-foot-5 athletic forward running the break. That would be hard to stop.

It s just weired how we complain about coaches here don't train their bigs modern big man skills. Yet its our local who has more of it than FSA, even some players coming from US.

Actually, that's the point of the FSA. Get classic bigman FSAs to force our taller and more skilled locals like Carl, Mason, and Quiambao to play more 4 and be more mobile. They can play the classic interior big role because of their size.

I know then why we complain if our coaches plays tall local players inside. If our coaches have players who are 7 footers in HS they will then move 6'5 players to 4 position.

I would think it would depend. Clarkson basically adhereed to the 2 week allowance the NBA was giving for practice. Kai, I think would have to stop being too cute about things for him to be included.

agreed, they’ll secure clarkson, he didnt play hardball and is worth the pricetag

while Kai and his camp played hardball, and squeezed every penny out of SBP. Chua doesnt work that way

I have a feeling that if it were SMC people who handled Gilas in the World Cup, and Brownlee wasn't injured (remember he had burn spurs), they would have opted for Brownlee as our NP instead of Clarkson. I think SMC people would not have wanted a Clarkson coming in to join Gilas with only barely 3 weeks before the competition. And knowing coach Tim Cone who puts a lot of emphasis on cohesion/chemistry.

Would also save them a lot of money.

Like how much money did we even pay Clarkson to play at the WC?
