Update to Fil Basket

That's pretty interesting, very excited to see where this goes! Hopefully the business and politics side of something like this remains manageable for the people running it.

Something like philbasket seems like it would require quite some fortune to run though, does it have any big time backer? and I don't even want to think about the weight you have to move to get certain "people" in the uaap and the pba to cooperate to make an idea like this work, foreign leagues might be more co-operative, they might be willing to send teams to compete in this league if it means expanding their brand to filipino fans.

We have the same questions. This is probably the most important question aside from their ideas. I hope they will address this soon. I don't think the PBA will help their rival gain a step but I think the UAAP will more or less cooperate. In fairness there are more to announce paman sad in FilBasket's side. We will have to wait for further information.

Not to mention he was literally a LAST MINUTE addition. Believe me guys, Dalph’s u19 stint you could chalk as an outlier. Kid is much better than that.

"Some" fans kasi define a player's potential in one tournament alone. Since Dalph's stint with Batang Gilas in the 2019 FIBA World U-19 Championship isn't that impressive, then "some" fans have a bad impression on Dalph & they would think like the kid would stagnate & would never improve. This reminds me of how "some" fans have viewed Kiefer after his forgettable stint in the 2019 FIBA World Cup (Hindi lang kasi si Kiefer ang nag sucked sa tournament but the whole Gilas team as well). I remember a poster here even described Kiefer as "nowhere near the level of a Tenorio or a Chris Ross". Damn! What a super shitty opinion.

I'm trying to understand , why people our so vocally against either a player ( Dalph) or team ( japan) getting mentioned often ? It's not like they're being mentioned without basis. Meron naman basis. At the end of the day it is opinion based on certain factors the poster values as important. Wala naman mali doon. These players or teams still have to show on the court they are deserving to be included. If Dalph is invited to Gilas , does well or not in practice and games, then yun. we know our answer. Dalph has already been mentiond by Tab as a prospect. so let's see na lang , kung Ok or hindi.

Dalph Panopio played unimpressively for Batang Gilas in the 2019 FIBA World U-19 tournament, so he will definitely play like that again playing for the Gilas senior team. Dalph would just stagnate & would never improve. This is perhaps the mentality of "some" fans.

Japan went winless in the Olympics, so why should we hype Japan?

Ganyan yung mentality ng "ibang" fans.

Yup does it mean unimpressive wala ng pag asang mag improve given how fast the development in during 18 to 23 years old. And doeant mean if youre arent youth level player now eh di ka na pang Gilas.. look at Babes kasama ba siya sa iteration of youth theams nina alejandro tolentino and heading? Di naman, but he improved dramatically to be come one of promising gilas members in 2019

Wouldn't be surprised if MVP backs this tournament with Jai being a nephew of Chot.

But those 3 teams that were initially revealed are good teams (moneyed to say the least.)

Yep I wish for FilBasket's success as well. I think MVP will help out too but I don't think he will be as involved because if he does than it would probably cause problems with San Miguel once again. I think he will open a sister team and maybe a little bit of funding. I Hope to see FIlbasket compete with the PBA within 5-10 years of its opening. The home and away format itself will attract plenty of fans.

What will be the difference if MVP backs it. MVP will just repeat the things he did in PBA . Unfair trades, players not getting involve with Gilas.

MVP is the one lending players to Gilas. Maybe not this year. But before most of the players were from the MVP group. If SMC and the other owners do not want to move the PBA to give way for Gilas it would be hard for the MVP teams to lend players. Also, the MVP players get their big money when they win. It would be unfair to the players to miss out on the bonuses because their team underperforms without them. Lastly, it is MVP este Salim money that is funding the SBP and Gilas. Well maybe now SMC is co-sponsoring based on the small logo in their uniforms. Maybe a concession for La Salle to lend Baltazar which we know is SMC backed

Highly doubt your last sentence. Too lazy to research but I think SMB ad in Gilas jersey came first before Baltazar suiting up. And is Balti really worth a compromise of such nature?

One pressing question has always been, “What happens when MVP retires from all of these?

The successor is supposedly Al Panlilio but his tenure hasn't been great as of late.

I think MVP retired he is managing Lashley, in all seriousness, Al Panlilio the chosen one will be doing due diligence as the first pacific company is fully involved in sports, good thing though IMO (and unpopular in ibn) is being able to have diplomatic ties with SMC

Lol Baltazar doesnt really equate to SMC, he is more connected to the Pineda's

As for the SMC logo it started when we were suspended due to the brawl and we have NO players capable of representing Gilas except from guys from SMC. Kumbaga yun ang naging turning point of the so called "reconcilliation".. Chot (who ahd unliquidated NT fund issues when he handles SMC national team was out) Yeng a SMC friendly guy was handling the team and the formal request from Al Panlilio to ask for SMC help in setting up the national team

my biggest fear is Long Hair and his minions +BCAP getting control of SBP once MVP retires.

What i meant by my statement is Mr. MVP backs the whole league. that does not necessarily mean that he will field one of his teams.

Yeah. The SMC logo was already there in Gilas uniform during the 1st window of the Asia Cup qualifiers. Baltazar was not yet part of Gilas at that time.

I am not sure but I also saw a SMC logo in the 2019 world cup, same exact spot.

Edit: Yep I just checked it, in 2019 the logo was there.
