Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

I probably don't think so. He said, "kukuha pa ba" in terms of PBA players and UAAP players, which means when would we still need them. I don't think he ruled the overseas guys out.

Correct.
Sa tuno nga ng statement na yun ni Al Chua eh parang ma's priority yung B-league & KBL players kisa sa PBA & college players.

We have to know the schedules. Kung kukuha pa ba ng PBA players. Ano ba next step. Kung kukuha ba ng UAAP players? Kailangan planuhin."

Statements that sound very very foreign to another Al -
Al "Panlinlang" Panlilio.

we already have the dates for the events next year - FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers and FIBA OQT...

FIBA Asia Cup
Window 1 - 22 Feb 2024
Window 2 - 21 Nov 2024
Window 3 - 20 Feb 2025

FIBA OQT
2-7 July 2024

I don't know what SBP still needs for this.. start talking... start planning... kahit wala pa coach.. talk to the leagues.. talk to the players abroad.. have formal one-on-one conversations... at least PBA, UAAP, NCAA can plan ahead as well..

I expect something within the month... first even is Feb next year.. that means at most January a team should already be in place for the first window.. and that means latest by december there should be a national team head coach already.. October na ngayon.. 2 months na lang.. SBP should do something already... again I expect something this month..

or else... hahahaha....

Don't worry bro, Al Panlilio & the rest of his SBP cohorts are going to plan at the "11th hour" like they always do.

Nag gold naman tayo sa Asian Games despite planning & taking action at the "11th hour" eh.

Correct.

Honestly didn't expect those statements from the boss himself. In fact, he's one of those I least expected to make those statements, given that he's PBA-affiliated. Fair play to the guy, at least he's considering the exports.

with this success. i would expect going forward hugot system from the PBA and a two week practice will still continue. we got the gold.

we should take advantage of this high that we have from winning the GOLD in the Asian Games.. seems all sectors are onboard.. Alfrancis Chua and the SMC block seems to be very helpful in this endeavor.. it now seems to be that the ball is now on SBPs court.. hahahahaha

eto na, dito na magkakaalaman if Al Panlilio and Sonny Barrios can take it to the next step.. kapag wala.. ay protesta na to...

Can Al Panlileo be removed from SBP? Pati na din from PLDT

Why is it that everytime Panlilio is involved into something, U got this feeling na papalpak na naman?

I think he should really be removed from SBP. I think his inbolvement in Phi basketball is even more detrimental than coach Chot (Sorry for bringing up Chot once again. I just want to point out something).

If for instance mabigat sa PBA to take a 2-week break to give way to Gilas training & participation in the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup qualifying windows, then I suggest we go with a Gilas team composed mostly of B-league players plus Rhenz Abando & then reinforced it with Ginebra players (Thompson, Brownlee, Malonzo) & SMB players ( Junmar & CJ Perez) with Ginebra & SMB having no games in the PBA in that 2-week span where Gilas prepares & play in the window qualifiers. Kailangan lang ayusin ang schedules ng Ginebra & SMB.

I think this is doable.

B-league players: Kai, AJ Edu, Tamayo, Dwight Ramos, Jordan Heading, Parks (if he's still willing to play for Gilas) Kiefer, Thirdy.

So B.League and KBL players are out of equation now?

I read it as things within your control vs things outside. Obviously its theoretically easier for the PBA and UAAP to adjust and this Asian Games is a good example.

Plus in the same presscon, they were talking about a basketball summit. So thats probably PBA, UAAP, NCAA, maybe MPBL, maybe Chooks, maybe Delta.

So that was the takeaway from the presser? Mikey and possibly Kai wanting to play but wanted a sack of cash?
I'm actually ticked off that Marcial had the balls to put on a smug face and gloat at how that team won in spite of (name all excuses mentioned). It's the sad part of his job to make the PBA look more awesome than it actually is, but it's hard to take anything away from them because a team of PBA players (except Kouame) that wasn't even Tim Cone's choice went home with an Asian games gold medal and partied like it was 1990.

Also, Vargas senile as ever, alluding to how much the PBA has "sacrificed" just to make the World Cup and Asian Games work; as if to say they're not changing a thing and even willing to do it without "talent outside the country" (definitely talking about those playing abroad). The league had already tried aligning with the FIBA calendar during Noli Eala's time, but two things happened: the PBA going back to the 3-conference bullshit when Eala left and FIBA changing their entire cycle starting 2017.

It's not rocket science. All the PBA has to do is schedule their off-seasons between early July until late September then plan their stupid 3-conference format from there. They'll never do that knowing they'll lose to both the UAAP and NCAA for venues (unless it's Ginebra playing, college games sell more tickets) and TV slots (bigger paying ads during college season) to start the PBA.

That lineup is aging, though. Most of the players will pass their prime soon. They will need help outside once the PBA boys age.

I don't think this is Mikey Williams as he plays for Vargas who also manages the team. Kai, meanwhile, like all B. League players is unavailable, so he would definitely beg off.

That’s a fact bro… if Mikey is a local in fiba, he will leave for Japan for sure, same with Cstand… but they can’t… You see almost all 1st round pick of PBA today are fiba ineligibles… because PBA teams know they were not leaving in the PBA anytime…

While some don't like the messenger (Robert) we have to admit the message is true (fact ). And obviously the intent is clear , they are regulating exodus, using FIBA clearance eligibility as a gate . Second it's super clear why some personalities were kickout of Gilas , (this accusation isn't speculation anymore , but super obvious. Making all these alleged other reasons for their ouster quite insignificant and immaterial ( a program director isn't removed for simply being unavailable to coach a window or tournament, that's none sense )

For Feb Window, why not send UP, with maybe reinforcement of Philips, Balungay etc. (opportunities to include them in pool with filing for exception replacing the FSA). The ball is SBP hands..

Or Lasalle or whoever wins UAAP

If i am sbp, i would give the fiba asia qualifiers to uaap/ncaa/cadets + brownlee
- we can get the top 2 spot with this team
- worst case we get 3rd spot.
- 6 3rd spot teams fight for the final 4 qualification.
- impossible we won't get in Fiba Asia cup 2025

OQT - best of the best

ideal pool is something like ...

point guards - robert bolick (let bygones be bygones), scottie thompson, jordan heading, rj abbarientos
shooting guards - dwight ramos, renz abando, bobby ray parks jr,
small forwards - calvin oftana, will navarro, jamie malonzo
power forwards + stretch fours - aj edu, carl tamayo, justine baltazar
centers - junmar fajardo, kai sotto, geo chiu (if only for the additional 6 fouls)
np - brownlee
for local exemption - kouame, ken tuffin, philips boys, luis villegas and kai balunggay

The team has a genius tactician on the bench(tim cone) and a true leader who treats his players like his sons(al francis) - PBA Governor Bobby Rosales

I love LH Charley!

Its ok if they do this but this runs contrary to the plans/outcry to keep CTC. If you keep CTC, you should keep his wards. Basically we need some sort of direction/plan.

Most of Cone's wards are north of 30, though. Only some of them can be kept long-term.
