Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

Let Tab Baldwin handle a PBA team so that we can have a Tab-Tim showdown. Already saw Rajko-Tim showdown and it was fun to watch with Gilas won by a point.

If u make Cone and put him in Lasalle, don't think he can win instantly, same scenario if u get Tab and put him into TNT he won't win until many years (if at all he's willing to cosch in PBA), what I'm saying it's not actually the tournament or game coaching the make the difference, it really is the structure and environment build over the years that matter

The thing with Tab that differentiates him is he actually has world level FIBA coaching experience for many years, this cannot be underestimated, cause obviously the tactical maturity was build to adiopt for that unique FIBA world level environment. One learns and uses different tactics depending on the environment to win.

It's actually the same process for learning to be effective in any specific environment, it's still exposure, having said that of course if Cone was fortunate enough to have opportunity to coach say NZ in WC for 4 world cups , i dont doubt he would do a good job and gain the necessary experience , unfortunately that's just not reality

Question: Assuming Kouame is expempted to go with AJ and Dwiight as core , is it realistically possible to eventually develop a quality SF ineligible like Balungay or Christian David as NP to complete future core pieces

Hypothetical question: If we had also qualified for the Olympics, would the IOC Executive Board have permitted Clarkson, Brownlee, and Kouame to play together? Would they have allowed additional individuals deemed ineligible by FIBA, such as Mikey or RH Jr., assuming the latter obtains a Philippine passport?

According to the Olympic Charter (Rule 40-41) Any competitor in the Olympic Games must be a national of the country of the NOC which is entering such competitor. A competitor who is a national of two or more countries at the same time may represent either one of them, as he may elect. xxx All matters relating to the determination of the country which a competitor may represent in the Olympic Games shall be resolved by the IOC Executive Board.

I apologize if this question has already been asked and answered before. If the IOC allows heritage players to play for the PH, the world might be surprised how strong our Olympic team could be.

always and we will win in Sports Arbitration

I hope and pray that someday Balunggay, Philips, Ange and Clarkson will be considered local in Fiba. Let us just be patient and give the right reasons to Fiba. Asiad gold was a great achievement for our team which is most analyst called Team B. Now this is a big moral booster to our stronger team A in the upcoming Fiba Asia cup and OQT.

When Danding was still alive there were rumors that Tim Cone was one of their coaching candidates for the La Salle job, if I recall this was right after Aldin Ayo left La Salle for UST.

Kind of disappointing that our exceptions , Lassiter, Lutz, Greg and Newsome, hasn't really translated to any results that matter

Did you watch the finals game? Who was guarding RHJ? Newsome was and I have to tell you that Asian Games win was our biggest in my lifetime.

But remember Newsome did not need an exception to play in Asian games, that might point

absolutely Newsome value and the huge win, im referring to getting exceptions that impacted in official FIBA games.

Well he didnt need it but since he was part of the pool this WC, he got the valuable international experience needed to show up yesterday.

Not arguing again that at all, and do note you don't need to be eligible to be in the training pool.

The point I'm really making , is hopefully the valuable exceptions we get , contribute to winning in Fiba,
do note from 2013 to 2023, exceptions , Greg , Lutz , Lassiter and Newsome played almost zero official FIBA games .
they didn't need exception to play in none official Fiba games (Asia and SEA games

But Newsome wouldn't make the training pool if he was ineligible. Mikey Williams is a much better player and didn't make it for one.

With Bitoy, Ogie and Bayani haha

With this gold medal in the Asian Games I do hope this win will get SMC and Al Chua drunk on success pushing them to go all out for the national team in future tournaments.

Well Brownlee and Kouame are ineligible and they are part of the training pool

Yeah they both were backup plans to JC. No chance Newsome gets the same treatment if ineligible.

It's actually same principle Newsome was back up to one of the eligible guards, (last player cut). Note Kouame was never considered as a Plan B NP, rather he was a placeholder center for a local (Kai ).

but this is really beside the point, my point of emphasis is we should maximize the rare exceptions we get . We'vw had 4 exceptiions yet for a 11 year period (2012 to 2023) we almost have not used the exception for a.single official FIBA game where it was required
we all know why, SMC exempted players were never invited to Gilas (2012 to 2018) , now that is the sorry sad part about it. Hope you get the point, I'm calling out

One of the good side effects of BLeague/KBL pinoy imports is the two conglomerates have been forced to work together. Suddenly the likes of JB are available when he has been expressing interest to represent the country for years now.
