Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

2015 FIBA Asia was def the more hostile crowd. Gilas with Abueva is a very easy team to root against if you're Chinese. Doesnt mean last night's crowd was not hostile.

Yeah, and knowing what was at stake that time. China moved heaven and earth to make sure that they win that FIBA gold.

He came at 17 I think so he could've played as an NP at u18 level but will FIBA allow an NP to play as a local in the future?

On Matt and BGR, we both know where we stand and I understand the rules as much as I disagree with them.

Yes FIBA has allowed many who were previously classified as NP to play as locals, BG has a few actually.
and Taipei , African NP was also allowed to reclassified as a local

I hope Philips "finds" his old passport from when he was 12 yrs old in an old bodega somewhere.

Won't work, same reason Clarkson claim.of a passport at 14 was found out as false. Essentially it is contradictory to declaration records submitted to the state department, and recorded in immigration records (shard within a few countries, which Switzerland and FIBA central have access.to )

I thought the BG examples were cleared even before the start of the FIBA tournament? They were only cleared as locals after?

Not really. They came early 2020, left for a bit because of the pandemic. Maybe around 3-4 years total. Plus getting BGR is personally ok since no good reason why Matt is eligible but he isnt.

Mike arrived and trained in DLSU in 2019, not 2020.

Was it though? I remember the 2015 FIBA Asia final as having a more hostile crowd, plus the home cooking which surprisingly I saw little of last night. Perhaps last night's crowd was indeed hostile but because of Gilas' never-say-die attitude, that sort of won respect from the Chinese crowd leading them to become more tense in their support of the home team, especially in the last 2 minutes. I dunno, I guess I'm just remembering things differently.

More than a decade of social credit rating is finally paying off. You now see a more disciplined, well-behaved, and self-aware (possibly paranoid) Chinese citizenry on full display for the world.

Which tournament? I meant some players who played in youth team has a classification of NP , not local, and where eventually converted to local , debunking the myth that there.is a rule thst once classified as a NP one cannot play as a local, that rule does not exist.
their status was reclassified after the youth tournament

The Caelum Harris batch, I was guessing that batch would be easy to get pass the Hagop rule since the pandemic was a legitimate excuse for delayed papers. Any other batches with NPs in the past?

But what if there really was a legit passport before 16 yrs old that was never renewed.. I mean that is a declaration of citizenship before 16 yrs old..

Good on Xi Jinping then, though his political party is still an asshole as a whole though.

Can the UAAP players play in the Feb Window.

Hope we give them the exposure .

Philips (local)
Balungay ( NP)
Mason
Quimbao

Woild be fun

Sorry if I forgot, but if it was 2019, It was late 2019 IIRC. His IG pic of his commitment was dated Jan 2020.

EDIT: First pic I saw of his was Nov 2019

"The 6-foot-8 center has been practicing with the Green Archers since late last year and at only 18 years of age, is tipped to be a valuable asset moving forward."

It's already October now. It is safe to say that Mike has been here for about 4 years now. Even if he becomes exempted in 2029, he will still be in his 20's which is good if you think about it.

Of course, what i meant by cont4ary to declaration , is some citizens are asked to make official declaration of all known citizenship of family at a point in time (especially US military personnel) and if one claims they actually have Philippine citizenship, contradictory to declared records that is revealing , this info is even included in travel authorization or arrival and departure cards .

If the SBP just files his case next year or 2025, for sure exempted yun. But he may take a big pay check overseas, that's the problem...

When I said "hostile territory, I meant playing against the host team, & especially that the host is CHINA.

Well, I think U know what I mean.

I think SBP wants him to be drafted and signed to a PBA team first before working on his exemption.

Guys, do you think with such frontline, we have among the strongest frontcourt in Asian basketball in the next 6 to 8 years?

Kai Sotto - A weaker, taller version of JM w/ better blocking skill
AJ Edu - A stronger & higher BBIQ Japeth
Geo Chiu - Not good enough even at the Asian level at this point. There is a reason he's not getting enough minutes in Ateneo.
Carl Tamayo - A quicker & taller but less athletic version of RDO
Justin Baltazar - A quicker & taller version of RDO. Unfortunately, his game might have regressed due to the level of competition at his age.
Mason Amos - is another RDO prototype player with less athleticism & probably slower than prime RDO.
Angelou Kouame (naturalized player) - If Edu & Kai is available, I would still prefer a younger and bigger version of JB.

That was not a problem for Rosevelt Adams. As he needed SBP clearance to join B.League. He got it. SMB could easily block it if they really wanted to
