Realize fil kiwi Richie Rodger is 6'3 who grew up playing mainly PG (Otago) and targeted US colleges, ended up playing a few college years there .
while obviously he didn't make Div1, thr targetted approach and necessary exposure in high school development years (guard skills) has all off sudden made him a more valuable player , than someone like Ricci Rivero..
the latter is obviously more talented (Ricci), but bad development exposure .
See what development approach does.

It is sad that playing in and for Philippines is last option though.

As a result, Most Fil Foreign Gilas Prospect level players wasn't able to get a phil passport before 16.

Out of the 12 Fil Foreign First Round draft picks. Only 2 are eligible.

2? I only know tuffin. Who is the other Gilas eligible?

Got offers from Taiwan for 18 to 22 year olds (college age), I tell you younger and more players will go overseas (with better development exposure ), to me it's a step in the right direction, as it's forcing change to be FIBA World level appropriate.

Actually that's the next step improvement, make eligible Fil-foreign who have overseas base development exposure ( like South Sudan). , this can realistically be done for the next generation pipeline by focusing resources to recruiting and streamline passport (with special administration authority from the government) kaya yun

We risk losing four players: https://www.spin.ph/basketball/fiba...perkins-in-asiad-lineup-denied-a1374-20230918

An appeal to include Perkins and Abueva in the 12-man lineup is denied, and Bambol Tolentino will appeal the denial. Worse, Terrence and Mo could be expelled from the lineup. Risk of going down to 8 men.

If Gilas manage to get far with just 8 men in the lineup, credit to Cone and the players. Still, there were 60 men in the pool. Who were the players in the pool that Cone had to resort to getting Abueva and Perkins, who were both out of the pool?

Knowing Choke he probably included his baby boy Kib Montalbo on that 60 man list LOL

Coach Bahala Na: "Matagal pa yan Asian Games na yan. i just list down 60 names ng possible players from pba, college and foreign leagues. No need to ask for permission or set a meeting to discuss" "2-3 months from now pa naman yan e...bahala na"

"if i need to make some changes or encounter any problems...i will just call my papa MVP to solve them..right papa MVP?

galing sa foresight indeed, and they knew there will be concerns and issues with the overseas players getting clearance from their teams since this is not a fiba event.

Stupid pinoy casual fans on social media commenting on how China is doing another cooking show on us by not allowing Abueva and Perkins...LOL...not bothering to know the real reasons why (the 2 were not part of the original 60 names submitted to the comittee months back). This is all on Cone and SBP. I cannot believe that Cone who is supposed to be a "great" coach overlooked this, and SBP allowing it to get this far, even getting the players to practice with them and show off pa to the fans (paasa effect). So who the F was responsible for listing the 60 names and why is it not public and even worse, why can't Cone just choose whoever was available from the existing list?? Unless the names on there were useless to him that he had to pull names from the outside??

Gawd the SBP and project director Chot are so effing INEPT.

Papa Mvp: "Coach can you do the job?"

Coach Bahala na: "Yes Boss Papa, i can do it...I can do the job. I can coach in the PBA and Gilas. I can also be the Program Director Boss Papa...para makatipid ka rin"

"Just add Php 200k per month to my existing salary of Php 500k. Makatipid ka boss Papa. I can do the job well, and I also can dress well for you Boss Papa. Would a 300k suit please you Boss Papa? Laban Puso at Bahala na!"

Coach Bahala Na: "I will list JC in the 60 man list. As we can surely win in World Cup because we have a big PUSO! When we win JC will join us in Asia Games because he can feel our PUSO too. I don't care about the NBA because only me and my team has the real PUSO!

I think this is a clear sign that the SBP leadership have to go. We have stooges running the show.

This is one of the wisdom of that provision on FIBA's newly revised Eligibility Rules related to the paragraph about "in the interest of the basketball development in the country". we've already learned that one of the main wisdom or idea of the said paragraph is all about strong domestic connection at a young age..I think Jason Perkins had already satisfied all the checklist for exemption when he obtained his Philippine Passport during his "daisy years".

However, that’s not the only thing special for Perkins in his 10th year in the Philippines.

Like Newsome a year ago, Perkins is hoping to be classified as a local in the eyes of FIBA.

The 30-year-old native of Shakopee, Minnesota checks all the criteria, having graduated from De La Salle University, played in the PBA for the last six years, and even set up a business in the country.

“Siyempre! I didn’t even know about that, but yeah, I should do that. I’m excited,” said Perkins about the prospect of being able to compete in FIBA competitions as a local.

Setting up a Business, helping the community thru charity works, basketball clinics, humanitarian works for less privileged people has a strong merits as well..

Hello Eric Gordon and idol Klay Thompson.

Again, while exposing younglings to foreign competition is vital and important in the program.. wag naman kalimutan our local leagues.. yes they FLAWS at this moment, but if we keep pushing our talented players to play abroad, our local leagues will diminish and slowly die, and if that happens, that will be the death of basketball, the number 1 sport in the Philippines and the thing we most love.. jobs will be gone, everything..

that is why, aside from encouraging young ones to play abroad, at the same time kalampagin, really push and push and push our local leagues to institute changes no matter what..

you always joke that the PBA die.. if that dies basketball will die in the Philippines.. creating another league as a replacement is not the solution.. we need to institute more fairness and competitiveness in the league that is progressive..

Playing abroad should be a temporary solution until the PBA institutes the necessary reform. However, it will take a massive overhaul which will take years. Need someone who has enough guts to institute the necessary changes to make the PBA more competitive in Asian basketball, better-adjusted to FIBA tournaments, and more attractive to 19-22yo players.

pba wont die until smc pulls the plug,. plus theres so many talent available anyway, those who opt to play abroad could easily be replaced

pba should just accept the reality that they cant hold talent forever, and might as well earn from player diaspora, similar to how euro teams earn from buyout clauses.

there’s no shortage of talent, quality might dip but the pba could market their players as the best the country had to offer, like how pogoy is the country’s best shooter (or similar to how kyt jimenez was hyped in soc med)

another thing, the influx of fil-foriegn players ineligible for east asian leagues is another potent source for new talent

It was obvious starting from the batch of Asi that Filfors would be better than homegrowns for a long time. The only thing that stopped this was PBAs stringent requirements on Filfors. Now that PBA has dropped it the floodgates have opened.

They should just get rid of the draft and have financial fair play.

Let teams sign whoever the fuck they want as long as it meets the salary cap.

Like, what's the point of having the worst team pick first when that "good" player will be poached anyway?

I think the PBA will "die" but it's more of a system collapse with a reboot of a new order.

The league dies once the SMC group pulls the plug. I've commented on this before but companies bankrolling the clubs isn't a feasible solution.

There's a reason clubs in Europe are run by clubs themselves with help from sponsors.

We seriously need an overhaul of an archaic system that doesn't work in the long term.

The PBA will die if there is a serious competition from anothe big league, specially if that league can draft the better players and PBA superstar jump league, overseas players are adamant in not playing for PBA and it will just die in the dark.

No one is suggesting scraping local leagues , ( they will all survive , like they do everywhere in the world that has an overseas pathway model) , what needs to change is the emphasis on local leagues and where they control who and how players are developed and even handling of the NT. this is a flawed model. domestic leagues really have no business running the federation on the NT formation.

closest thing to that were the Lopezes bankrolling MBA, this was also during the time when SMC and Danding were under trail regarding SMC shares, but when the books show that Lopezes were losing money, they pulled the plug on the project.

Pacquiao is currently selling the MPBL, lets see if the new owners can go challenge the PBA

i think its the pba that should buy mpbl..this will have them the best division 2 league and a platform fo them if they want to go home and away..
