Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

  • Thread starter Thread starter IPC2
  • Start date Start date
loaded team wins, the classic pinoy hater retort "llamado eh" but if said team loses same hater will go "lakas lakas na natalo pa, b*b* ng coach"

so sad to see so many haters in the world

but i bet if their foreigner apple of the eye was the coach, they'll come up with all sorts of excuses when he loses ahahahaha

If long hair is truly a winner and in order to win in the world stage is to adapt ....then he should adapt too.

I'm bullish and positive even if he has many haters and targeted our beloved tab.

Fact is that he is head and his focus is basketball is good. Much better than the past regime...wherein the head is the ceo of pldt...basketball targets will be an after thought and lease priority.

The ideal setting is still the head is 100% focus on the national program. But long hair era will still be head and shoulders above the other Al era.

Tim cone also in the press con also said longhair called him every 6 minutes. He seems to be the persistent kind of guy. Then that's great then for us.

Lets just give long hair a chance. Its different being in charge vs not.

Case example...Isko Moreno as Manila Vice mayor didn't do anything. But Isko 3 years as mayor was able to do things wherein others do in 20 years. And that is amidst of the pandemic.

Im not impressed with long hair. But compared to Panlilio he is light years ahead in terms of basketball. However, even if before their reign began I have seen SMCs bad tendencies already in the non-inclusion of Bollick and Baltazar. Guys that have gotten the ire of SMC. This was to the detriment of the team. With the way all the PGs performed, it is not hard to imagine with Bollick there we couldve won a non-classification game.

I just hope that RSA intervenes if Long Hair fails because of these tendencies. The same way RSA allowed Arwind to be moved from SMB, after years before changing several coaches in part because Arwind was not happy with his role in the team. I hope RSA knows how to yank his man if the results are bad, unlike MVP.

I dont think Isko is a good example. Manilenyos were hopeful with his stance on cleanliness and citizenship. But for me it turned out to be lip service. The guy talked about cleaning Divisoria but it turned out he sold Divisoria and other properties for billions to a company with unclear owners and offshore accounts. You know a guy is all talk when after he sold Manilas properties he ran for President of all positions instead of actually improving Manila as he promised. He raised a lot of campaign money but seemed more interested in sowing intrigue with Leni instead of campaigning. Although he did some good in his 3 years it was not enough when as a first time mayor he sold Manilas prized properties. Going to Manila takes so long now because they only started fixing Lagusnilad only now instead of in the summer. The mayor is his partymate by the ways and former vice.

With this Justin Baltazar controversy, it would be very interesting to know whether Robert Bolick got an invitation for the World Cup or not. Its hard to imagine that a player who was among the few bright spots of the ill-fated 2019 World Cup Gilas team was left out in the 2023 World Cup. Add to think that there were only 2 natural point guards in the World Cup pool (Thompson & Kiefer), and at one time Thompson was doubtful becoz of the hand injury he suffered during Gilas' training camp in Europe. Unless of course Bolick got the invite but turned it down.

If Bolick got invited but he turned it down then that wud speak something of his character. But if Bolick wasn't invited at all, then that would speak a lot of Chot's character as well as that of the SBP.

Sounds like a Lakers approach. Tbh

The Lakers win stuff but they’re not exactly known for developing talent.

Maybe just leave talent development some place else?

The Gilas program is run like a business anyways, so win-now will always be the no. 1 priority.

Japan sticking with its focus on player development and long preparation. Only one player from their world cup squad, while the rest are young prospects. And the team has been practicing for the Asian Games since June.
We'll see in a couple of years how Taiwan will fare using a similar strategy (albeit with a much smaller population).

Meanwhile, in another part of Asia...people can't figure out whether a player got a phone call or not.

SBP does love side-quests and procrastinating hahaha, no futures thinking

And, well, the one of the powers, duties, and responsibilities of an NSA (like SBP) under RA 6847 is "[t]o adopt, in coordination with the Philippine Olympic Committee, a training program for the development of the athletes and their preparation for international competitions..."

Development and preparation is literally a mandate laid down by law. Not just SBP, but every NSA. The PSC doesn't have the power to take over, though.

FIBA won’t change things on naturalization

Wasn't there an article a few months ago about him being available and waiting for an invite? How about SJ and RJ?

Yup, yet despite of that, Chot & SBP kept mum about Bolick. I think if Chot & or the SBP really invited Bolick for the World Cup, Chot or pipol from the SBP would have refuted the claim that Bolick never got an invite.

But why the silence from Chot & SBP? Is silence an indication of guilt?

As to your question about SJ Belangel & RJ Abarrientos, perhaps Chot & the coaching staffs thought SJ & RJ are both midget point guards that will just cause mismatches in world level competition.

geez chot already resigned and you're still hating on him?

haters really have a lot of time on their hands, is that the "tambay" at play here?

Speaking of RJ Abarrientos, if only he posseses the quickness/agility, defensive skills & smarts of his uncle Johnny, I think he would be serviceable for Gilas despite being midget.

FIBA is trash like usual. Pinoys deserve to represent the country without prejudice.

Well SBP parang mga tuta eh walang ka ngipin ngipin eh, don't even trying to voiced out na tayo pa nga host and all FIBA officials are here smh.

Germany had it all. A leader, youth, experience, cohesion, defense, big men, shooting, teamwork and Puso. Complete package.

They deserve to win this World Cup.

I can only hope SBP and PBA picked up something from Germany's success story. Shortcuts will not win you games. Neither is copying the NBA when you are a freaking Asian with Asian genes.

I really feel what coach Toroman said is true that becoming a top 16 team is doable for Gilas. Clarkson and future naturalized players will always anchor Gilas but what the team really needs is 3 to 4 consistent core players that could complement the naturalized players. AJ Edu, Dwight Ramos and Rhenz Abando have shown the most potential in this past world cup and I think they could only become better in the coming years.
