If that's the job description, I'd have gone for Abueva. Give him year-long shooting drills until he's shooting in his dreams. He's longer, more athletic and more annoying than Pogoy.

He's certainly more annoying and cray cray, a lot more athletic and probably becomes our best rebounder. And he'll probably hit the same number of 3s Pogoy will in the WC with or without the additional training.

Forget them 3's. His patented "Nganga" move will be annoyance gold.

AHAHAHA!

"Iwan na iwan na tayo" Yeng Guiao. Didn't Tab say basically the same thing, and even offered possible remedies? Of course they sent him to basketball hell.

lol true. tab has been telling this all along but got heat instead. pinoy coaches have this mentality of being on high table.

Maybe, just maybe, they dont want a foreigner saying this to the fans. Pinagsasabihan tayo. Quite frankly, i take this more as a criticism, so it doesnt matter who says it. But alas, we are "just" fans.

I wonder if strong group and chooks to go can join forces and take over sbp instead of smb? Strong has the delta bridge via their psasand converge teams as well as the ctb bridge since Lao was a former player of the said coach. Even Coach Rajko has a connection. Lao is supporting csb whose hc is former asst of coach rajko. Pretty sure if they can get cabbagie onboard they would have a decent starting point if ever.

that was actually criticism but when you think you sit on high table, eh masasaktan ka talaga.but if you think logically tab was right all along. why would they think pinoy coaches are better? did we see pinoy coaches in CBA or any other asian leages? or any international leagues? if pinoy coaches are better then we wouldve seen a lot of them coaching many national teams.

In a way, Pinoy coaches can be as good as some of the foreign coaches. Maybe surpass ctb. But we really dont expose our coaches to international games on a conaistent basis. The best pinot coach for FIBA IS CCr, why? He has the most experience. But me thinks, a coach ayo or coach charles, or insert name of coach here can be better if we have a way to consistenly expose them to FIBA competition. Coach charles was an asst of coach rajko, he was able to coach in the dubai games. Maybe get him involve more. Kahit asst lng muna in one ofbthe you teams. Coach gavina is hc for a taiwan team. Again, someone involve him. U16? Talk to coach Jimmy Alapag, can he do u18? I dont know a good solution as i dont have enougj facts, but if we want a more successful local coach, they have get more international reps. If we can send some to other countries do so, and someone get then to do coaching clinics back home to transfer any new technology.

If the powers that bes feelings got hurt, use it to fuel the will to be better in a sustainable manner. There is a way, but itll take time. Coach caloy should tale over coach yeng. He and coach topex were asst of ctb. Let them show what they learned and merge it with their kind of coaching. Kaya yan.

Very much agree with U with these bro.

Young coaches like Aldin Ayo, Goldwin Monteverde, Charles Tiu, Jamike Jarin, Jeff Napa, should be named as assistant coaches to our Gilas senior team or being head coaches & asst. coaches of our youth teams (U-18/19, U-16/17). Hindi yung monopolized ng mga mag amang Reyes yung coaching jobs ng national team in senior & youth levels & both of them hasn't produced good results lately.

ay oo naman. thats true. our pinoy coaches "can" be as good. tbh i think topex and monteverde and ayo is as good as ctb. the problem is that we need our coaches to be exposed to internaional training and games.

Thing is, are these coaches in the BCAP circle? That aside, yep, our promising coaches should be exposed and made assistants to veteran FIBA coaches like Nenad.

correct me if im wrong, but most professional coaches in the Philippines is under BCAP. the foreign coaches should have been allowed by BCAP thats why most foreign bball coaches are tagged as consultant to go around this. i dont think coaching amateur team are affected (CTB). also, CYG already mentioned before, BCAP is not against hiring foreign coaches. but there really is no plan how to elevate coaching in the Philippines after the said coach leaves. how many asst did Coach Rajko have who is a head coach currently? I only know of Coach Charles who is active, no more allan gregorio, oliver bunyi (i think asst somewhere?), jude roque? how about Dickel? Compton and Ravena i think, they did some short runs but wala na din.

so i guess, BCAP has legit concerns. pro teams getting these "better coaches" and yet local coaches dont seem to get enough exposure to learn and actually apply what they learn. just for discussion, whoever the next group to handle SBP. can we have a setup of getting a foreign coach for the first 2 years with multiple local asst and maybe 1 of his choosing (regardless if local or not) and after 2 years, moves to a consultant or team manager while the best assistant takes over as HC? the asst should handle the youth and womnes team? i dont know if that will fly but you keep the foreign coach, in paper you eventually get a local coach once WC comes around, and the process to go there should net you atleast 3 local coaches with a good start in terms of FIBA experienc (2 youth teams and 1 senior) maybe someone has a better idea pero we need something to actually help coaching in the Philippines.

Yeng is absolutely correct, need a plan how to elevate coaching in the Philippines after the foreign coach leaves. Most teams hire a foreign coach just to win, not to teach the locals.

I think I agree with your proposal as to developing coaches. Need to develop a wide coaching base.

Why not send some talented college coaches to be an assistant coach in a US NCAA Div1 school for starters, even just 1 or 2 coaches a year should make a difference.Pro assistant coaches at Gleague,Summer League or even in Australian NBL,that should elevate somewhat the basketball knowledge of some coaches, they can pass this down with their own basketball clinics.

Coaches have to be given offers, though. And even references. Maybe Rajko can call friends in Europe and recommend the locals here to serve as part of the staff there?

Hope Caleum Harris turns out to be the small forward we have been looking for Gilas: good size (at least 6-foot-5), athletic (in the same level as Gabe Norwood, Danny Seigle, Kelly Williams), skilled (decent handles & has a reliable outside shot & a good passer as well) & of course a good defender (within the level of a prime Gabe Norwood).

Or you can ask just like Jimmy, besides with connections in the NBA and US NCAA,they do have programs for foreign coaches to apply as an unpaid assistant, its harder to get to Europe but in the USA its probably more a possibility.

Coach Jimmy is an American who is of Filipino heritage. He has roots in the US. if you send local coaches to be unpaid asst, where will they live? how will they eat? someone will sponsor? everytime we want someone to sponsor someone else, we should always think that this gratitude needs to be repaid. im not saying im against this, but i think there is a missing step and then we can do this. i dont what it is, ill just go with, you need the applying coach to show he has some coaching skills that is of use. so that will circle back with somehow giving a chance to local coaches to show their wares internationally, and then your suggestion to apply kahit asst with some team.

Unpaid assistant by the school, but the sponsor from the Philippines will shoulder the everyday necesities, the school usually have them living in the HC homes,or the dorms, its not the individual that's going to initiate the contact of course, its the Philippine organziation,SBP,UAAP even young PBA assistant coaches. When you watched the US NCAA,the analyst on tv never fail to mention that so called schools have a foreign coach named, blah, blah, blah for 5-12 games, etc.

that would be sweet if we can get 2-3 local coaches under this setup and ensure they go home atleast once a year to teach as well and once confident, give them a chance to handle a team.

I don't really understand how this is feasible. Are foreign coaches and their employers required to produce good local coaches? The Philippine government cant even absorb technologies from the 40 or 50 year old PEZA companies that they subsidized taxes on. You expect local universities and companies to absorb the ability of good international coaches?

The thing is this is impossible if how basketball played locally is incompatible with that played internationally. There is only one foreign coach that was effective locally, Ron Jacobs, and I don't think remember his tactics being something we can apply against international teams. Ok, let's let the Bull Nelso Asaytono score 30 pts and let others focus on D.

The problem with BCAP is that it is preventing foreign coaches from being hired because of something that they are only a small part of. Let PBA change its style to be more competitive internationally, then our local coaches can apply things they learned from foreign coaches. Good international coaches like Goorjan, complain on how whistles are different in the PBA than everywhere in the world. Fix that first.

Even Tab I don't think has produced a good protege. But that is not necessarily bad. Tab has forced the other schools to upgrade their coaching talent and also forced these coaches to up their game. Coaches like Aldin Ayo, Goldwin and now Topex.

I think the BCAP's requirement is misguided. It is barking up the wrong tree. It is not the foreign coaches fault that our professional league's level is subpar. It is the professional league's fault itself.
