Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

Yeah. I watch B.League I always see Thirdy with shaky handles. I am always concern that he might lose the ball.

For me, Gilas 3 6'2-6'3 players inside the court plus 6'5-6'6 athletic forward and a bigman and be competitive.

Imagine my two versions of 5 on the floor:

G Bolick - 6'2
G Lassiter - 6'2
G Hontiveros - 6'2
F K. Williams - 6'6
C Douthit - 6'11

or

G Cariaso - 6'2
G Baguio - 6'2
G Duremdes - 6'3
F Seigle - 6'6
C Blatche - 6'11

Do you think that these two versions will not be competitive enough against Middle East and African teams?

Eaten alive at the paint. Chot is that you?

Did the Mexicans or Dominicans eaten alive in the paint by the Middle Easterners or Africans? AFAIK, they have yet to register a win against these two smaller LatAm teams.

Hey. I call the game as I see it. We're not at a court of law here. Just look at how Junemar can play almost 40 minutes against TNT but he is in foul trouble even in less than 20 minutes a game in Fiba. Just figure out for yourself how come more fouls are called against Junemar at less than half the playing time.

I agree that PBA calls are different than FIBA. PBA no harm no foul is way lenient to physicality. But also observe that fiba east asian calls games more tight than european.

mpbl is too obvious on selling games.. PBA is good in hiding it.. but eye test, you can tell that a team or teams are doing it.. it doesn’t need a link about this.. a youtuber can make a clip about this.. it will be a long clip.. pinoy fans know about this.. PBA are no way saints in this regards

I noticed this in the B league. This is an advantage for JPs smaller guards though. They have a lot of leeway to shoot or attack the basket without physical defense.

When it comes from you any accusation is valid. Like you accused of Thirdy not including in U16 team because of nepotism. Without research, not knowing Thirdy was overage.

See thats why you need evidence to make you look closer on your own accusation

whatever floats your boat my friend. you’ve been call out by greenarcher here.

So. Atleast I didn't lie or accuse without evidence.

Proves what I said. Selective SJW.

Mr. Vera Files here facts check everyone except the rabid Kai fans. LOL. Nice to see our resident lawyer has the backs of his fellow Kainatics.

This isn't the court of law so I'm confused as to why you've been asking people to show irrefutable evidences to back their comments, most of which were based on hearsays

So thats your issue. Me not not posting about hypers. Wow its so deep man. Feels like High school and straw man argument.

Just to be clear, First I dont support them haters or hypers. I only react to what I read some one accusing and lying with available readily fact. And I dont read all of post to check. Me not posting against Kai hypers means I don't think their opinion not worth talking about as they are so one sided.

The most important, is they are not accusing anyone with a crime unlike accusing someone cheating in a basketball game to defraud the public. Gets

Frustrated lawyer which is why he practices lawyering here in IBN. Sad. LOL

In short, a selective and biased fact checker just like Vera Files and Rappler.

Yes is not but I hope we dont turn into fake news central and be a misinformed poster. See what happen when we just allow that kind of toxic behavior and PEx was turn ito that. I hope we can be better than that and It just good practice. Would you want to see comments of fake news more or informed opinion?

Try REAL WORLD common sense. Sorry but either you are genuinely naive or you want your “truths” handed to you sealed air tight. Playing your beyond reasonable doubt game isn’t infallible, as even the court of law isn’t without wrongful judgements.

I'm thinking, what if Gilas does this on a yearly or regular basis? I mean playing tune-up/friendly games & pocket tournaments on a yearly basis during the months of July, Augusf, September. Gilas needs the reps for our players to get accustomed to the FIBA game envoronment where players are bigger/taller & more skilled than the players in the PBA & & the B-league.
This was done with the San Miguel-RP national training pool/team during the mid-2000's which was the time when the then PBA Commisioner Noli Eala modified the PBA calender to make the PBA calendar synchronized with the PBA calendar. The PBA off season was scheduled in the months of July, Aug. & Sept. which made our PBA players free to play with the national team. The national team back then, which was coached by Chot Reyes, was able to participate in numerous international competitions like the Jones Cup, Brunei Cup, and that tournament in Qatar. I remember we participated in a pocket tournament in Las Vegas in 2005.

Why not do this every year even if there's no FIBA tournament nearby? This has been the practice of almost all basketball countries all over the world. We need the reps for our players to get used to the FIBA game. We need to train our national team years in advance prior to tournaments like the World Cup or the FIBA Asia Cup. Hindi pwede yung kung kailan malapit na yung World Cup (2 months prior) eh saka palang tayo magti train. As what I've said before, our preparation for the World Cup & the Asia Cup must be on a 4 to 5-year cycle where we maintain a pool of players that we will expose to countless of international competitions, friendly games or pocket tournaments.

Hopefully, we get a new management not named Al Panlilio, Ricky Vargas, and Alfrancis Chua. Get someone like Delta, Strong, or Chooks. Hope the new management emphasizes development of internationally-viable young talent, chemistry, and an internationally-viable system, and we get a respectable coach that can get invites to pocket tournaments for our cadets and seniors.

I think fans should be campaigning to get Panlilio, Vargas, and Chua out of SBP, and keeping them from the SBP headship. Problema lang, fans are too naive to see that SMC and the Panlilio/Vargas group are the same shit.

People cling to power, limelight and position. Just ask the politicians. Which is why things will never change for our NT.

but this time its different as every year there is a fiba qualifying tournament heck even teams like Senegal arent vacant as their palying for a spot in olympic qualifying tournaments so pba adjusts on fiba calendar

Something which I don't expect our greedy PBA people would do. But even without PBA national team prospects (Malonzo, Thompson, CJ Perez, Oftana) during the July-August-September period, we still can have the non-PBA Gilas prospects who are playing in foreign pro leagues which calendars are synchronized with the FIBA calendar. We still can have Kai, AJ Edu, Tamayo, Baltazar (hope he doesn't play in the PBA), Dwight Ramos, Abando, Parks, Jordan Heading, RJ Abarrientos. We can also add a No. of college or amateur players like Mason Amos, Francis Lopez (both already played for Gilas before), Chico Briones, Mark Belmonte, Jonel Policarpio & even the ineligibles like Mike Philipps & Kai Balungay. Then we can have Justin Brownlee as our naturalized player. I think that team/pool would be very competitive.

I'm still convinced they'll completely ignore FIBA Asia Cup qualifying that's happening a month after the Asian Games. When I mean ignore, I'm thinking they'll send Josh Reyes and a bunch of college players because the PBA will be deep into the Commissioner's Cup while there will be a FIBA International window from November 20 - 28. Last time, we had guys like Thirdy and Kiefer play games for Gilas and spent the remaining days in the country on a short vacation. Whether or not that team will be competitive enough for Asia remains to be seen, but definitely the entire SBP will be jaded after going through both the World Cup and Asian Games.

Heck, Brownlee might not be even available on the upcoming Windows. Feels like we won't be qualifying for the FIBA World Cup for another 4 decades again

Which is why we fans should be campaigning for change in SBP management. These guys in management will stagnate us and drag us down the longer they remain.

Might be easier to force executives out than politicians, might as well start a protest movement.

I am not naive, just like any other sensible people we deserve some order and discipline. Dont think fake news is beneficial for decent forum. Look what happen if we let fake news toxicity run wild in a thread. I am asking for facts that we can all look at to debate on, no courts rules. Anyways, its just my stand

If for instance Iskati Thompson won't make it becoz of his injured hand (well I hope he makes it), and Kiefer Ravena doesn't make it to the final-12 man roster either, would this be the 1st time that a Philippine national team bound for a major tournament would be without a natural/legit point guard? Let's be honest, neither CJ Perez nor Newsome nor Rayray Parks are natural point guards. Coach Chot hinted that he might play Clarkson at the point guard spot at times. I don't expect that's gonna happen. Clarkson's just too valuable a scorer & offensive threat to play the point.
