How about if people are stakeholders of Philippine basketball, should they care how resources are used and the lack of it in priority areas of need ?
Sorry bro, I always read your comments... But i see some hatred towards MVP and Gilas basketball... That is not good, You are too angry too far because Tab Baldwin was axed... Move on already... It's already 18 months since Tab resigns and you still claiming for his return... Tab is done and this is Chot's era.... This is still better than 2019 edition or we will likely stick by Tab Baldwin, but for sure the support from major sponsor will likely close because Tab has no good relationship w/ most of the sponsors here...
If we don't have grassroots program then you will not see the successful of our youth team from the past... We are now also have womens basketball program too... Before SBP there, No youth teams competing in international tournaments from the past... You have to be thank to SBP because they upgrade atleast our basketball program, especially w/ the womens side.. The government even don't support the sports program itself... Look at the recent SONA of BBM, He doesn't mentioned any reports or plans for sports program here... Why you hate so much w/ MVP , even thou he literally help our sports program in his own pocket? You still be grateful that we have a guy like mr. MVP to help our sports program... I know it's not perfect that we wanted to be but he still doing his best to help basketball throughout his own pocket money...
I don't ( hate MVP)
it's flawed structure and systems, leading to self interest decision, conflict. Especially from AL Panilio and Vagas.
who as head of a conglomerate have no business to be head of a federation ( conflict of interest)
Priority is driven by self interest
bad decisions , hosting etx , program,
are the results, it's a basket case
Compare to the past irritation of BAP, This is way way better, And how do you say we don't have grassroots? Are you watching how our women's team become one of the rising basketball programs in Asia despite little support from media and our government... Our mens youth team already have 3 WCs in SBP era... In BAP era, we can't even send the team into international competitions...Be thankful that despite shortcomings by SBP, they still trying hard to have grassroots in our basketball program... If you want a dream set up, You should ask the government to do it.. But anyway, Did you saw SONA yesterday? He (BBM) even didn't mentioned what the plans of our sports program in our country....
you can carry on arguing with Dave, i wont get in the way. but i'd like to pick out some things with what you posted:
1. grassroot is the local development of the players. your example is the U16 and U18 Womens team. please remove all the filfor from those teams (they are not developed locally) and honestly tell me if can achieve same result. no medina, yumul, fajardo's. vdj, etc.
2. cant speak for others but yes, SBP gave us a huge boost compared to BAP. but does that mean we shouldn't voice what can be improved? wala na freedom of speech? if we are free to give them praise, why cant we be free to point things that dont align to what we personally believe? guguho ba SBP if some forumers oppose certain things that SBO does\did? is that how we want it to be? on side note of this, aside from BAP being not sa good as SBP, it needs to be considered that a) they don't have same war chest as SBP and b) BAP and PBA never got along. remember, PBA was created so BAP cant use their players.
and lastly 3. NSA is not suppose to be managed by the government. so unless you want someone to be impeached and removed from office (be it corporate or from the government) the government will not head an NSA.
I concur with sir C2Hamm. Just because SBP is better than BAP, and this team is better than 2019, doesn't mean we should tolerate the bad. For the record, I want Panlilio, Vargas, and Chua out after the WC.
SBP fucked up our long-term direction by replacing Tab as program director. Chot's a capable coach, yes (the most capable head coach from the PBA right now; probably the only one, Cone's just for assistant and defensive coordinator duties), but he prefers the PBA veterans, and he's not one to lead a rebuilding program, which we sorely need. A lot of the Gilas-quality PBA players are old or aging. June Mar's 33, Japeth's 36, Scottie just turned 30, Marcio's 37, Newsome's 33. And outside of those guys, going to the younger ones, only Oftana, Malonzo, and Navarro are Gilas-quality at the moment, so the PBA support might be negligible, especially if capable players go abroad, where constant availability for Gilas is more likely. We need youth over veterans going into the next WC cycle. And prioritizing the PBA over capable players outside like RJ Abarrientos, Robert Bolick, and Justine Baltazar in the WC, jeez.
As for youth, we had a disappointing U18 finish last year. We had a good team, but failed to make U19 WC because Josh did not adjust his defense when Lebanon suddenly shot well from 3. Also, grassroots means that we have to be sending (or trying to send) more promising homegrowns overseas, and beat the local colleges to them. And even in the senior team, we didn't really prioritize younger players outside of those who were in Tab's team, and others like Abando, Mike Phillips, and Quiambao. We should have prioritized exemptions for players like Ange, Mike, and Ballungay, not the older guys.
In the women's team, it's just Pat doing the work and scouting for good talents here and abroad, I don't know if i can credit Panlilio and Vargas for their success other than maybe financial support.
As for NSAs, the government is not supposed to manage an NSA, and their supervisory powers over NSAs are limited. Only as far as PSC's financial support. The PSC may sanction NSAs for violation of its policies, rules and regulations. I just read the PSC Charter (RA 6847) for this.
