Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

  • Thread starter Thread starter IPC2
  • Start date Start date
for philippine context ok, but for FIBA nope, lacks skills particularly passing and shooting, ( he's an example of everyone wanting to be a scorer like michael jordan). that's why for me the guard rotation for the Phillipones should be 90 % just Thompson, Clarkson and heading. change minutes na lang yung iba

If only CJ Perez started playing point guard or combo guard when he was around 22 yrs of age, I think he would have developed point guard skills that would make him a point guard prospect for Gilas. Just like any other players, Perez needed the reps to transition from a wingman to a point guard or combo guard.

Not everyone can be a point guard.

Cj is stronger and can defend than heading while heading can ligt up score on the ten percent playing time youre giving.. but he doesnt reay need to stay long so that opppsi g team cannot expose his defense..

I think CJ is bothered by international length when shooting the 3. But from what I saw he hits a higher percentage if he shoots off a screen. I think he was 1/1 against Finland but I don't know if it was off the screen or not. Basically, CJ's shooting form is ok and better than Thirdy's or Newsome. More importantly, he is still our most explosive guy. He is a weapon on the fast break.

CJ was already playing some point-forward during his Baste days..

It seems the womens counterpart will be the first one who will beat NZL in basketball in seniors level… although it’s still 3rd quarter but I like gilas womens team today.. grit and grind team and they copy Japanese style of basketball

But he has always been a scorer & with a scorer's mentality at that.

Its still different having played as a point guard for a significant period of time.

Gilas was great with Castro and Romeo as PGs even though they had a scorer's mentality, Is Perez really that bad as a passer to be considered even as a secondary PG?

ring lang nakikita ni cj, he is strong and quick finisher but yes on that first part..

Wish that they won so that I can say our mens team has high potentaial, but thhis is the same team thta loses to indonesia and vietnam in 3x3.. need to close out games

Not really that bad, just lacking, and he's got tunnel vision too. It's understandable though because he's been molded to be a scorer since his youth. With such explosive first step and repertoire of offensive skill set, any coach would really push for him to become their team's go-to scorer.

Nah. The Chinese Taipei game was great. This game was good also. Imagine the men's teams NP scoring only 4 pts do you think we'll have a chance of winning? The women's team had a good chance of winning with their NP scoring 4 pts.

3x3 and 5x5 are very different… Mongolia is the king of Asian 3x3 but way below in 5x5… womens basketball program in the Philippines is way better than mens side due to politics inside

VDJ’s impact still there even she has not good game offensively… Her presence alone already give her teammates confidence and being better w/ her as facilitator… I think she will revenge on her next outing vs Korea… I still like their chances to beat Korea… maybe a preview of Asian games bronze medal match already… in Asian games, no Australia and New Zealand participating and Gilas girls already beat Taiwan (although expect them get revenge)… China and japan will likely favorites to win gold and silver… also look out for Lebanon and even Indonesia, who beat gilas women in last seagames…

But Castro & Romeo played as point guards or combo guard (in the case of Romeo) for a significant period of their respective careers, something that CJ Perez hasn't done or wasn't given that opportunity. Meaning Romeo & Castro got the reps that Perez didn't. Doon talaga nagka deperensya, sa reps.

Yes, Romeo, Castro & Perez are natural scorers & have scorers' mentality, but Castro & Romeo got the training of point guard or combo guard skills in their careers while Perez got the training as a natural wingman.

You forgot Perez.

Balti is a lost cause. Dodging the draft soured his relations with the PBA. I don't see him ever being considered until Panlilio and Vargas are out of the SBP.

Abando and Kiefer might make it because I don't see BRP playing point.

Erram could also crack the lineup if Edu isn't healthy.

This is different from Scottie, who was already given the PG's role from the 3-spot. Scottie had signs of being able to be a ballhandler, facilitator, and distributor.

Honestly, we don't need a pure PG or pass-first PG given our system.

We need three guards with good size who can facilitate and handle the ball. Hell, even Blatche as our PF/C could dictate our play.

The guard doesn't have to be the point.

And PGs these days are expected to execute plays instead of just facilitating, and some are given freedom to score.

In addition, I think the 1-2-3 all need to be able to handle the ball these days. We shouldn't limit the ballhandling duties to the PG. Anyone below 6'5" should be given ballhandling responsibilities.

Everyone on the floor should have ballhandling skills. We are running a DDO system after all.

There's a reason Tab switched to a Swing Offense in 2015: not everyone on the team could Dribble-Drive.

This team is gonna be worst than Yeng's World Cup team. I can already see the writing on the wall. The extremely predictable offensive sets, inefficient and inconsistent 3 point scoring, and disorganized defense were already showing on those two tune up game they've played.
>but muhhh tune up game
Chot is a horrible coach who still piggyback riding his world cup appearance a decade ago and Coach Tim despite how much I respect him, he's not a good defensive coach, he always struggle defending the perimeter in PBA.

This is gonna be another embarrassment for Philippine basketball, the worst part of it is, this is happening in our own turf.

I just can't count how many time Chot embarrassed our National Team and yet he's still there. Sarap sampalin sa muka
