Even if the player isn't officially submitted to FIBA pool, but if the player like Rosser can replicate FIBA bigs in practice , that's good enough than a slow unathletic big
Bro, I suggest U backread DAdmiral's previous posts for U to understand much better what he's trying to imply.
watching pba pickup games and wow how the Joshua Munzon had fallen, just 3 years ago we are craving for his fiba eligibility.. now we wish him playing for malaysia, vietnam or indonesia and destroy any progress they made there with his bricks
It's not actually certain that Koaume will not get exempted in next 3 months ( I'm not saying he's likely to get exempted) but he certainly has a better chance than some of the players the SBP filled for exception previously and failed . Additionally if injured he doesn't need to practice. Now let's be honest here , if you used 1 pool spot of 20 players , thst leaves you 19 players available to choose from , more than enough options, and it's not like you can't add 1 player (like Simmons for Ozy late) in a super extreme worst case scenario....
Besides people are missing the point of emphasis here, it's not so much if Kouame should be included in the pool which is arguable at least , but the SBP lack of foresight to strategically plan for the future. (This is obviously evident), it doesn't have to be Koaume, look Phillips is unlikely to be in the official pool as well ( now tell me this isn't lack of foresight on the SBP!!!. Hope people comprehend now.
There are more opportunities to do that, Especially FIBA has new format... They can do that in future tournaments... FIBA Asia cup qualifiers will start in February 2024... For now, use the pool for players who are eligible, available and last and foremost, healthy 100%....
Do not forget also the World cup is a golden opportunity to have the Sec general who decides on exceptions to have his audience and be on good side , as we are the host. Additionally for futuee Asian tournaments we have opposition from our rivals to question players merit to eligibility
What in the world sir Dave, you starting to sound like Robert here, we know you want Kouame to get local excemption..
that's a good outcome , but it's beyond that, it's for the SBP to have foresight and think strategically. and not make decisions driven by stakeholder interest. It is a real problem, if you honestly look at the country as a whole. BTW it doesn't have to be Kouame that gets exempted , but how the SBP acts does matter
And let's be honest , exception decisions are not an exact science ( there is no formula like 5 yrs residency +under 25 yrs old = you're approved exempted ) , it's quite subjective decision making with use of guidelines, so every bit of persuasion for a positive decision is always smart .
Again you cannot honestly say this is really the reason for the plan of action. Let's be open minded honest, you cannot say including old Junmar coming of injury is a better pool member selection than Philipps ( who really has a stoing case for being exempted NOW) and can contribute to WC . Be honest.
So it begs the obvious question, why then is Junmar more probable selection than Phillips for the pool? Isn't it obvious decision is based on political self interest of key stakeholders who've invested (need to keep them happy) . Now is thst a good basketball decision and practice?
DO YOU COMPEHEND NOW!!
Sir Dave I simply get it..
As for seeking an audience with the Sec Gen, I think this is an opportunity as a host to do that old classic way of “While You’re here” thing. Here’s a scenario(actual event not fiction) It’s like when there’s an occasion, attending a family reunion for a relative or a close friend and everybody in that room recognized you as an IT guy and coincidentally the host’s desktop or laptop encountered some technical problem then in the middle of the merry-making he/she approaches you, “Hey buddy, while you’re here, can you check my unit it seems it’s not working properly”.
There’s an old proverb, “Sa Hapag Kainan mas maraming Napagkakasunduan”.
As I've said, we can use our 2023 FIBA World Cup hosting as a leverage for FIBA exemption on several players like Philipps, Kouame, Balungay.
To be fair I think they have the smarts naman (the Philippines hasn't had issues with lack of smarts) it's the self interest , so decisions aren't driven by what's best for basketball, but for financial interst of a few to keep control. For crying out loud the head of the SBP heads a conlglomerate that owns like 1/3 of PBA teams., talk about super conflict of interest.. I.mean honestly SMC didn't just give money for the WC for nothing in return. So messed up really...
