I wouldnt consider this community that rational, dami antivaxxers.

IBN is still much better than any other forum out there. If we have some irrational & dumb people here, kunti lang naman sila & they don't command a good following here.

Lolz. If IBN is moderated, that thread will cease to exist that moment it is created.

If the newly created Filipino Basketball League can draw involvement of among the biggest business tycoons in the country like the Sys, Gokongweis, Concepcions, Tans, Razons, & perhaps Ronald Mascarinas, & ma manage lang ng mabuti itong liga na to, I feel this new league will succeed.

I heard this league will include participation of foreign teams, then that is going to draw more interest from fans since we want Pinoy players competing with other nationalities rather than just Pinoy players competing among each other. I mean what's the point of a Pinoy team beating fellow Pinoy team?

Tim Cone would rather give up a 3 point shot than giving up the points in the paint and that is his defensive philosophy - the reason why he should not be considered to be a Gilas coach.

Yeah.. His coaching strategy will be exposed facing Korea and Japan big time..

As much as it pains me to say this, being a Ginebra fan, yeah, Cone sacrifices the 3-point shot. He'll get burned by Kazakhstan, SoKor, Japan, and even Iran.

Alex the Great rightly said, fortune favors the bold. If no league wants to show up the pba by creating better, more internationally competitive flavored, or more exciting games, none may deserve fan and commercial interest. If they want to be smalltimers, then smalltimers they can only be.

You think that say an ilocos norte team will have less fans than ginebra against say a sokor top team? Or, would a manila team, funded by many manila firms, spend less on a prestigious match against a top chinese team?

Besides, if the interested league wants to play by fiba rules, then it gets the fiba approval, and not the pba.

That league will have the glory of selecting players for national teams.

Fortis fortuna adiuvat is a Latin maxim, from what I remember. Still, you do have a point there.

Giving them an international flavor might better prepare them for international basketball. I've always believed that domestic leagues should prepare our players for international play.

I advocate that they should put one world import and one Asian/SEA imports to have a new flavor to the public.. No problem if it was Pinoy vs Pinoy team battle.. But wag naman lahat puro Pinoy.. The competitiveness was decreasing.. The champion of this league should represent PHL to FIBA Champions cup and EASL...

Also one spot for former FSA in each team will be a good idea

I like dwight's play. Nothing flamboyant, and all business. With good and young 345s now and in the horizon, only the guards need serious replacement.

Fiba nt 123s are almost always the best in the world per country. Why we are sending uaap/ pba quality only guards every year is insane.

"As good probably as ramos" MUST be the only selection pass-fail criterion for 123s. Sjs and rjs are entertaining, but not fiba material. I agree parks meets the criterion, but will have issues with an mvp financed nt.

Ateneo, up and la salle have several big guards who are mature 20+ guys. Tab should probably focus on them.

Tab likes mike nieto "vocalizations". He might as well try to convert him to pg, as he is unfit at 3 for a fiba nt. The de liaños and paras today have the size and skills for the nt -- but they are lost already.

Pba play culture simply has strayed too far and too long away from fiba nt styles.

Some correctly noted that its best player fajardo is not fiba nt ready, and its best pba coach cone uses ancient plays that can be easily destroyed by mere asian top nts.

Or to put it bluntly, pba plays have deteriorated to the point that these work only against pinoy player and team weaknesses.

The GDL's are not lost, actually. In fact, Juan's contract has a clause where he can go back to play for Gilas any time he's called up. I assume Javi will have the same clause inserted.

I agree with the Ateneo, UP, and La Salle part. They have bigger players who can potentially become serviceable guards for the national team. Ateneo and UP will willingly cooperate, but I dunno with La Salle. We only got Baltazar because his handler happens to be powerful in his home province.

Cone's not the best at adjustments, either. He just relies on pregame preparations. Plus, his defense is meant only for those who rely on the paint to score. Unfortunately, that won't fly in international ball, as outside shooting is a must, and teams that shoot well from 3 will burn that defense.

Such kind of clause they will never get playing in the shitty league like the PBA, right?

Mabuti pa ang liga sa ibang bansa like the B-league, it is willing to allow a Pinoy player to play for the Phi national team, eh yung mismong liga natin na PBA, pahirapan para sa isang PBA player to play for Gilas, specially pag ang player is playing for an SMC team.

According to a 2015 Spin article, it can be agreed upon by the player and the team in a side contract. However, there are instances where the clause is not accepted by a mother team as a condition of employment.

I can only guess which PBA teams don't like this kind of clause

According to Snow (I don't think thats 100% accurate), Javi and Juan GDL didn't take Gilas clause in their contract.. It means it's their decision na maglalaro sila sa Gilas or not..

Has Snow actually read the contract (I doubt it)? It came from Juan himself that he had it in his contract that he will be released to play for the National Team.

Dwight Ramos, Thirdy Ravena and Matt Nieto vs. Dominicana's Liz and Solano.. The result could have been different..
Coach Tab: “Defensively, in the backcourt, we were exposed by the Dominican Republic -- and it wasn’t for lack of effort and it wasn’t for lack of training. It may be a question of guys size, strength, length and experience.”
“For size and length, obviously we missed Dwight Ramos. We’ve thought of an opportunity for Thirdy Ravena, who might have helped us. We missed Matt Nieto with his defensive presence and his leadership. I think that’s one area that we got exposed.”

At least Tab had a rude awakening, Im expecting that he would upgrade his PG pos and RJ wont may the cut till 2023.

Snow said the exact opposite in his online show. He said that every player who went to Japan had a Gilas clause.

Leagues like the ANBL and NZ NBL ( and i think B -league) are literally under the jurisdiction control of the National FIBA federation ( e.g. Basketball Australia), so typically in the past for the windows the leagues under the FIBA federation have mandatory breaks for representation. And the teams are restricted from disallowing them to be released.

The pba is actually the best source for mature three-and-D essential role guys, who are seriously missing in the nt.

For the edification of the sbp, a 3-and-D player is one who reliably jacks a ton of 3 point shots, and very capable of guarding at least 3 positions on the other end. A k middleton, more or less.

Hindi mo madedekwat mga ganyan sa uaap at ncaa lang.

I actually thought paras was this guy who can neutralize 123s, while exploding 3-5 3bombs a game. Sayang, walang personal vision ang bata ng "where do i best fit?"

Actually, Middleton's paid to become the 2nd option as well as the defense. Middleton is also 3-and-D, yes, but guys like PJ Tucker and Danny Green, Patrick Beverley, Jae Crowder are more common in that role). But you're right, they're paid 8-digits in NBA salary (I think around $12-15M) due to the importance of their role.

This needs to become a point of emphasis for our national team. We can't win on defense alone (although we almost did in 2015). Question is, who in the PBA is a 3-and-D guy? I can name only Pogoy and Marcio Lassiter (although both can be shot creators as well), and also Rome dela Rosa.

Ganuon nga. Even in the pba, they do not develop 3-and-d guys. Bagay, dump the ball to fajardo sa ilalim, may 2 trophies per year na.

Guys quick question, what if Heading or Navarro joined the B. League, is there any repurcussions? Tecnically they dont have any contracts sa PBA only but they signed with Gilas. Perfect examples is Tungcab, supposed to play in the D2 b league but failed to comply with the paper works.

The question is will they be available for Gilas. Remember Thirdy wasn't able to play for Gilas even though his last game was mid April in B League

We'll see about their availability in the FIBA Asia Cup and World Cup. What ultimately matters is availability for the main tournament and the preparations therefor.

Thirdy's case was unavailability for windows. Let's see about his availability for the FIBA Asia Cup tournament proper first.

PBA players were available for the 2019 WC qualifying windows, pero anyare sa main tournament?
