Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

Literally submit both Kouame and Phiipps in the pool for WC , and make MVP do what he did in 2011 FIBA Asia and beg the SEC general to allow for Lutz and Lassiter to play , (but in Manila ) let's see if the FIBA sec general has the guts to say NO to both request . LOL ... sounds drastic but why not?

We are 1 of the hosts of the 2023 FIBA World Cup so that's a good leverage right there. I just hope bro that our good people from SBP realizes this idea of yours.

Oh! Am I too optimistic about SBP? :p

With the future of Philippine basketball as a heavy priority, here's my 18-man pool for the 2023 World Cup?

1. Iskati Thompson
2. Kiefer Ravena (I would prefer Robert Bolick in this spot but Bolick seems not that committed to Gilas recently)
3. CJ Perez
4. Thirdy Ravena (I would choose Thirdy over Chris Newsome becoz of age factor)
5. Jordan Heading
6. Rayray Parks
7. Jordan Clarkson (NP)
8. Dwight Ramos
9. Jamie Malonzo
10. Calvin Oftana (if only Navarro isn't injured, I'll choose him over Oftana)
11. Carl Tamayo
12. Mason Amos
13. Mike Philipps
14. Japeth Aguilar
15. Ange Kouame
16. Kai Sotto
17. AJ Edu
18. Poy Erram (its actually a toss-up between him & Junmar but I feel Erram is more useful)

I put Philipps & Kouame in there mainly for exemption purposes. I would love a Justin Baltazar in there but for reason I don't know, it seems SBP doesn't like Baltazar in the Gilas pool.

2nd follow up question, if Koaume and Philipps get approved exempted, who's your final 12 ?

Philips for me, simply because Chot is the coach, and we'll probably have Kai and either any of JMF or Japeth. Now this is not a knock on Ange but it's just better to use Mike at this point as he's going to be more useful in Chot's system. Pag hindi na lang siguro si Chot ang coach (maybe after the Asian Games?), only then that Ange will be regularly penciled in to final 12-man line-ups whether it be for FIBA qualifying games or tournament proper itself.

As a direct answer to your question:

Scottie
CJ
Clarkson
Rhenz/Thirdy
Dwight
Parks
Malonzo
CT
Motor Mike
Kai
AJ
Japhet/JMF

Not bad roster..
is Perez fill role need more than Tuffin, Spencer
Oftana and Thirdy ? Kind of a want a defensive oriented guard, not sure What Perez provides, when u have Clarkson, Parks and Heading

weak lineup..this doesnt mean this team is stronger but talent level gap isnt far

New, RJ, SJ, Rhenz, Dave, Balti, BGR, Oftana, Kquiam, Brownlee, Fajardo, Angge.. we already have a 24 man pool. Not saying this list is better ut I can see2 -3 or 4 guys that mght excel and be a better piece than some of the names above..

Sorry ravena bros hahah

I just saw a brain-dead post on the team composition for the WC: https://www.facebook.com/groups/389200608668249/posts/1313797986208502/

He said that the lineup for the WC should be composed exclusively of PBA players + Kai and JC. Leave the overseas players, because they're "overrated."

My response is, the only really useful PBA players for FIBA at this point are Scottie, Japeth, Marcio, Newsome, and Malonzo. Perez is too inconsistent, and Oftana hasn't gotten enough reps. I mean, come on.

I'll pick Perez over Thirdy. Remember, Perez & Robert Bolick were the only bright spots in the Gilas team in the 2019 World Cup. I think Perez is a decent defender & he's always a scoring theat. Tuffin is untested in the FIBA game while Spencer is just too inexperience.

Also, Perez has been a regular fixture of Gilas for the last few years - something Tuffin, Spencer & Oftana aren't, hence Perez has the edge in terms of familiarity & chemistry.

Oh that poor kid must be a blind die hard fan of the PBA, hence the obvious bias.

In an ideal world (without a greedy PBA/SBP self serving agenda) this would be my ideal WC pool.

GUARDS
Scottie Thompson
Robert Bolick
CJ Perez
Rhenz Abando
Jordan Heading
Ray Parks Jr.
Jordan Clarkson

FORWARDS
Dwight Ramos
Jamie Malonzo
Kenneth Tuffin
Carl Tamayo
Mason Amos
Justin Baltazar

CENTER/FORWARDS
Angelo Kouame
Japeth Aguilar
Michael Phillips
Kai Sotto
AJ Edu

HEAD COACH: Tab Baldwin

Perez first step is a weapon in world level he just need good screens..and he is a capable defender too (assigned to defend pridgett in the finals that made him foul out but was able to limit his output)

Tuffin in gilas is a long shot unless he will come early in the camp we dont have sample size on him the last 3 years and he isnt a big like a aj edu that we can be patient into...

Wildcards.. Mason Amos and... Caelum Harris..Hopefully Ateneo and UP will be exposed in intl competitions abroad so that PAdrigao, Lebron , Mason Kai, gagate and co. can develop themselves...

He's doing fantasy line up aka "NBA 2K playstation mode"....

Well then isn't that a bad reflection then on the lack of foresight of the SBP when pang 2k fantasy insight actually has better strategic value than the actual federation driven by political monetary obligation (utang na loob)

Bigs

Kai Sotto
AJ Edu
Ange Kouame
Mike Philips

Wings/Forwards

Jamie Malonzo
Roosevelt Adams
Dwight Ramos
Ray Parks

Guards

Jordan Clarkson
Jordan Heading
Scottie Thompson
Aaron Black

Kai Sotto wouldnt be with the team up until summer league is over right? Theres a chance that Adams might make the lineup after all getting that coveted 12th man role (althoughwe hope to give it on a magic bunot guy than him who will just accept his fate)

Pool members in training don't have to be submitted to FiBA , and there enough submitted spots (24 ) to simply use for processing clearance , that is more than enough spots to have multiple options for the final 12. Plain and simple it's lack of strategic foresight

Wait!!! somebody forgot the name of BGR despite being a long shot for now(magbaka sakali muna) I think putting his name on the pool is a must considering that we were also training for the Asian Games and surely he will be eligible as per OCA.
