Quiambao is listed as 203 cms which is around 6-foot-8, but I think he's only anywhere between 6-5 to 6-6. Still a good size combo forward. And he's only 22 so he still has plenty of room for improvement. The key here is further improving his 3-pt shooting & defense. He could be another Ranidel Deocampo type of a talent for Gilas.

Yeah, just improve his perimeter defense and shooting. He's already working on his handle. Just work on the two, and he can be a viable 3, or even a tweener if the situation calls for it.
Honestly, versatile tweeners should be the rule among our good bigs if we want to consider them for Gilas, especially considering that most bigs are 6'6"-6'8" and not June Mar sized. Shooting and/or (especially) ability to defend the perimeter is crucial.

After this WC, I really hope we lessen our reliance on the PBA. Most of the best Gilas options don't play there. After this WC, the only real losses will be Malonzo and Scottie.
Problem is, they want to impose their presence despite not having the commitment to do so. If they want to be present, commit to the NT and find ways of increasing profit while adjusting to the NT. If they can't commit, they should just fuck off.

That is why Tab was sacrificed because he proved that the PBA was not needed and actually detrimental to Philippine international basketball success. Tab winning with college kids and standing face-to-face with Serbia woke up a lot of Filipino fans to the stupidity of the PBA.

Kai, RJ, Heading, Dwight, Navarro, Balti, and Carl showed a lot of upside for FIBA play, more than most of their PBA counterparts. In the case of Kai, the only ones that are in his level are Japeth and June Mar. Dwight was leagues above his PBA counterparts at his position, same with Carl and Balti. Navarro proved to be our capable wing defender, and Heading shot very well. Ange did well anchoring our defense.
Plus, the only useful PBA players at the time were June Mar (this was before his poor window), Japeth, Bolick (he was still in the PBA), Perez (he was still a good prospect at the time), and Oftana. We didn't know Malonzo was eligible, Newsome hadn't been exempted, and we didn't know how Scottie's game would translate.

as the essence of the U16 rule is to develop your Youth age players (Basketball heritage)
Residency as a pro adult 22 years and over is NOT homegrown developed but a finished product earning his income , super big difference
it's contrary to the purpose of what the U 16 rule is regulating

JAWATO is a rare exceptional case , for every Jawato there are a dozen expempted approved cases with residency as a minor ( BTW Jawato spent time as a minor with his father in Indonesia, however short )

Diagne and Kane will get their exemption status by 2025... They start their residency since early 2020... Indonesian basketball future is bright, Bolden, DMX and Diagne are the pillars of Garuda basketball, The scary part is they are still young and will be core of their national team for 10 or more years....

Yup , but not only that if you get your passport shortly after like 17 or 18 yrs old, (Gamber , Spencer, Zain , Fotu) you do not need years of residency, and pretty much immediate is exception..
Do note without a letter from Sec General and passport is over 16, you will initially get a classification as a NP, but not to worry as shortly after it is reclassified to local after the necessary papers and approval are processed
Robert simply relies on what he hears and reads in news to arrive with speculative assumptions on what he thinks the process is, without fully understanding the full context and each case details.

Curious when Michael Philips got his PH passport? He was already with DLSU in 2019, when he was 17.
Sorry, I can't stop talking about Mike Philips. I like the prospect of having him in Gilas uniform. He is an athletic 6'8 and with good nose for the ball (rebounds and rim protection). Maybe raw but can improve.

Kenneth Duremdes who was listed as 6-foot-3 may actually be only around a fraction of an inch above 6-foot-2. While Kevin Quiambao is at least 6-foot-5.

Same sentiments bro. While I see Mike Philipps as not having the qualities of a franchise player (far from that). He could be a perfect energy role player in the mold of a Mark Pingris. And he's only around 21 or 22 at present. I just hope he gets the exemption from FIBA in 2 to 3 years time.

I think he will get an exemption ala Slaughter/Newsome.. he can understand and speak the language enough, has been in the country long enough and studied here, plus played college ball.. it will only be a matter of time..
what is more important now is for him to improve more and be a taller, bigger and better marc pingris type of player..

Phipps being raw and still needing to develop is really the essence of the FiBA rules and what it's trying to promote via regulation, which is essentially each federation should develop its players. And if that includes established roots in the country by cultural immersion (learning language etc) the better ..

Maybe it would be wiser for Mike Philipps to play in the PBA when he turns pro than play in Japan or Korea or Taiwan if only to boost his chances of getting FIBA exemption, right bros? Talking about being involved in Philippine basketball's domestic program for a good duration of time.
