Let's say Edu is not healthy enough. Which bigs will you pick aside from Kai? Kai, Japeth and Junemar?

Still the usual suspects in Tamayo, Baltazar and Malonzo. I’ve moved on from Erram for the world level. Time to infuse young bloods into Gilas.

Mason Amos, Seven Gagate, Gab Demisana too if they develop well.

Erram, Almazan, Chua, Belga, yeah, they should be the absolute last resorts at this point.

how are these 2 going to development more than the PBA players you mentioned in 7 months time? they will be playing\already playing for their local leagues and probably some offseason league after. the PBA players may have a chance to do some international games(SEA Games as the most sure thing for the next 2-3 months) or at the very least, play with whatever team CCR is building. the conversation is for 2023 WC.
as much as I like Amos, he's for the 2027 run.

Almazan, Erram, and Chua are 33 going 34. Beau is 36 going 37. They're not gonna develop either. And the first two are poor FIBA performers, although Erram was nice last Asia Cup. Would rather take my chances on Geo Chiu, who's still 21 going 22. At least the three young bigs I mentioned have youth and potential.

My line of thinking is, if the vets are poor, might as well roll the dice on youth.

As to how they'll develop in 7 months, I think I',m just gonna have to rely on their mother teams and their work ethic.

im not against what you are saying but im just putting context. it doesnt really matter if the PBA players will develop or not. as long as they would be useful this World Cup, ayus na. i've been in this forum for sometime and almost always I will favor youth development. if there is time. if wala, we use what we have.

Other nation will send NBA players, players used as import for some other countries league, or just having significant FIBA experience. and you technically want us to send Kai with Seven and Gab? Kai is still young enough to need the experience. i wouldnt even call him a veteran of FIBA tournaments let alone Seven and Gab. and dont get me wrong, its not like I dont want them to play for flag, my position is use them in other tournaments, maybe the qualifications, but use the best we can for the 2023 world cup.

but looking at it differently, if you thinkg these 2 kids are better than the current PBA players. then our basketball in general is rubbish. imagine, 2 HS kids are better, because they will represnt the nation in a world cup, then seasoned veteran of the countries main basketball league.

I already said it before and I will say it again that despite that we already had some length in the 4 and 5 position to somehow match-up with the other bigs from the other countries, realistically speaking were still thin in that category. Were thankful we had 7’3 Kai, 6’10 AJ(still in the recovery stage), 6’10 Gian Chiu, AK34(still in the process of case build-up), 6’8 Justine Baltazar, 6’8 Mason Amos and 6’7 Carl Tamayo but those lads are still pre-schoolers as far as high level FIBA basketball are concern. As for Junemar and Japeth it’s no brainer that those two cannot carry the team majority of the game, the opposing team will surely do everything in the book to put them into early foul trouble and abuse them no end in the defensive end. Just look at the SMB-BAD series, JMF hasn’t pick-up the much needed momentum in the series because his always abuse in the defensive end hence his always in and out due to early foul trouble. As for the GSM-BAD series, Japeth was not comfortable all series long and kudos to CTC and his coaching staff they make a decent job in hiding the inefficiency of the dude in most part of the series. They’ve already know when to control him when he’s beginning to turn into a headless chicken, good thing JB and LA knows how to cover up for him in some crucial part of the series. That reported injury(bum stomach?) released via main stream media is exaggerated. Sobrang pambebeybi nila sa Mama eh(Trans. Don’t treat him like a baby, treat him like a Man.)

if AJ can walk ( 50 %) i would go with him, we don't need him to even play all the games or heavy minutes ( 15 plus) , if he can play 2 games and play 10 mins ( that will do)

you already asked that in another thread and I gave you link from ESPN that he is playing 9.9mins a game. he is doing what you want. and if im not mistake, he had a game or 2 playing above 15mins. so no problem even if plays on all the games as long as mins is managed. he'll give you rebs (sure thing against D1 players already) and added defensive threat.

Yes thats what I'm implying he's fit enough to play 2 or 3 games for just 10 mins, I would go with that..

Just to add for those limited minutes (10 mins) and not back to back, I don't think any of alternatives (not counting Kai) can provide the same rebounding and defensive presence.

small pickings without Ange out front. 2027 is exciting. at the very least, we know (injury aside) Seven and Gab can be the new Chiu. 2 of them and more athletic. someone from PBA will always be worth having a look, so maybe someone will be by that time. and we are looking at prime Kai, AJ, Carl, and Balti. not saying all of them are will have sure spots but thats more to choose from then what we have now. and who knows, maybe some unknown filfor will surprise us leading to that edition of WC.

I'm intrigued if Philipps has a chance , if SBP pursued it like they did Greg and Clarkson, I think he has a reasonable shot of getting exempted, do not forget we are the host and granting a exception of Philiips heritage and residency background at the veryleast is a reasonable request to be granted. (NOW that's of course if SBP is at all interested or is dead set with the PBA players)

I get that we should put the best in. In the 4/5 list, I have Japeth, June Mar, Carl, Balti, and maybe AJ (just having injury concerns with him) and Mason high up first, then we consider the other younger players like Seven and Gab.

At worst, the younger players will be only slightly worse than the other veteran bigs that we have. Even if that's the case, they can still improve from it due to their youth. At least nga, it's almost a lateral move from the PBA bigs, so might as well. Besides, they could use the exposure to hone their game further.

^^We gotta take into account we’re actually talking about insurance as far as ”the other big” is concerned. Might ride the pine until the situation asks them to be in there. With Kai, Aj, Junmar/Japeth and Tamayo, the 4/5 minutes are all but allotted. Having someone like Erram, Almazan or Belga serves no beneficial purpose, esp long term. Balti and Tamayo offers upside, at the very least. I rather have them out there for the spot minutes than the vets.

IMHO, I would rather put on the 6’8 kid Michael Philips to our(non-FIBA) SEA Games, Jones Cup, Asian Games and FIBA 3x3 line-up, I agree 2027 is the exciting part on Philippine basketball and the perfect opportunity to present his case to the Sec Gen. because of the ff: 1. I think at that time he already finish his schooling at DLSU and 2. Already(hopefully) playing in the PBA same with his 6’6 Kuya Ben. But if we submit his papers now, well it’s still risky and the chances are very slim. I think at that time his basketball immersion to the country had already been well establish.

Jeremiah Grey might be the next player to obtain an exception from FIBA, I think he has played in the PH since 2019. All he needs is 2 more years playing in the PBA and he could be given an exception.

I really hope this happens

Do you guys see Amos as a future Gilas mainstay? His u18 stint with batang gilas gave me an impression of a smaller Daniel Johnson. Good hands but bad defender. Some people were comparing him to Danny Seigle but i didn't see anything like that at all. I see Kobe Demisana as a better prospect because he can play defense. Gagate was the biggest surprise to me tho. Saw him as a slow traditional big with heavy feet before but what showed up at the u18 looked like an athletic wingman who has good height.

Im being honest Demisana, doesn't seem like a future Gilas prospect to me.
