Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

Ryan Alba says Josh Coronel, James Nacua, and Seven Gagate impressed him in the last U18: https://twitter.com/_alba__/status/1598874439986601985?t=y0-8MXXZy3_KC6QWt_5tiw&s=19

I hope these guys get a break in the senior team someday. Sakto for Nacua and Coronel, as Perez and Parks, their competition at 2/3, turn 30 next year, so the former two might get a shot soon, provided they develop well. Hope we don't waste them.

As for Seven, he might have a shot. Carl, Balti, Quiambao, and Malonzo are our only options at 4 after Japeth calls it quits, so Seven may have a chance.

We may add Mason Amos on the mix here and possibly Philipps after 4-5 years

Mason is a given for me. So, him and Seven are good PF prospects for the next few years. I hope they develop their defense, though.

Nothing to hide and nothing to feel sorry for
"Nabubuking" lol only applies to you "bro"

Here's a guy who tells the world that he likes a certain player yet is implying that such player's performance in the PBA is just a product of nepotism kasi tatay nya yung head coach ng team.

If its not marzinalizing the player, then I wonder what marzinalizing someone is like?

I see Mason Amos as a future elite stretch-4 in Asian basketball. He could be our version of China's Gong Xiaobin or Liu Yudong during the 90's.

hard to comprehend eh? "cool bro" lol

I wonder if coach Josh Reyes was able to lead our youth teams to the desired results (at least silver or bronze medals), would there be any hate or bashing be thrown at him?

Would the issue of "nepotism" among the SBP be this much of a big deal?

What is our 2023-2027 Core looks like now?

With the way I see it:

Bigs: Kai, AJ

Forwards: Tamayo, Baltazar

Wings: Dwight

(I hope this quintet will be both part of 2023 and 2027 Core)

Guards, is hard to decide cause we might have new talent or newly eligible becoming available in a year.

I hope to see the 2021 version of Balti, with no playing time and all its tough to gauge if he'll be as effective w/o Tab, but if we could have Konov and Amos playing for seniors as early as 2023-2024 the better while we await the eligibilty of Lucero,Ballungay,Philipps and Koon, maybe even Luis Villegas.
For guards, Winston, Abando,Abarrientos,Belangel

From what I read it seems AlPob without RSAs budget just focused on buying the refs and the commentators. What am I saying, thats what happens when an SMC team plays with a non MVP team. The difference is RSAs money can get the talent. While AlPobs Letran makes do with trashing the game under the guise of physicality and let the refs and commentators save them. This is why I have low expectations with SMC taking over PH team. What can AlPob do, buy the Fiba refs to allow us to "physical" opposing teams?

I don't know what to expect with them, honestly, e. I have a few misgivings. I'll just restate them.

They have the funding, but are they willing to invest it in grassroots development, training players for their international positions? Can they use it to hire a foreign mentor to our good local coaches, to prepare them for the international game? Are they willing to use their vast resources to fund our young players' overseas ventures?

I think RSA is putting the responsibility more in Cones hand. TC has shown willingness to learn and adapt. From moving away from the triangle to going on the Miami Heat assistant coach gig. Whats going for Cone is he has giant chip on his shoulder from failing spectacularly after getting the full backing from PBA back in the 90s even Chot never did. He is taking this job seriously unlike say YG.

wait, thats unfair to CYG. CTC is a better coach and CYG he barely has any international experience. he may have performed poorly, but we cant say he didnt take it seriously.

Haha F@ck no. They'll probably naturalize the most talented mercenary they could buy and keep the talent in their camp.

I have the same thoughts bro. I just hope I'm wrong.

I just hope that no more "hugot" system & that they put some emphasis naman to the grassroots aspect. Hindi yung maghihintay nalang sila ng finished products & then harvest them just like they've been doing for their PBA teams.

it'll be the same if Long Hair takes over. why would it change? Will his position of SMC Sports director change? will his position as Team Governor change? hindi naman. Panlilio is same currently. this is just another job on top of what he is doing. he\they need to ensure all their roles are done. it will be hard to focus on 1 thing to do it properly without the other roles getting affected.

Grassroots is a long term goal. if the possibility of you getting removed from the job before it is completed, then most likely you wont do much on that part unless stakeholders specifically tells you that you need to build it up. i dont agree with this, but this is common even in corporate setting. why train newbies only for them to go work somewhere else for higher pay than paying an experience guy over market value in hopes he doesnt move anytime soon? again, i dont agree, but grassroots is a target for the next SBP director, i doubt they do much. mga saktong papogi lng cguro.

given SMC connection with Delta they may simply add resources/funds to widen the scope of Delta in terms of recruitment and development since their system are already in place, it'll be the most pragmatic approach for SMC and they can funnel these talents to Gilas, DLSU and SMC teams. While for overseas recruitment they could support the filam group of Cabagnot.
Unlike the MVP group SMC I think is more suited to these types of arrangements since they know how to compartmentalize and control personalities (including premadonna players so Mickey should be headed to Magnolia soon lol)

so technically, no grassroot program. if they do what you say, its just giving a group of people some cash to train some players and thats that. which is more or less aligned to what i mentioned, papogi lng.

SMC and SBP: Its cheaper this way lol
