Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

Have you guys been following this Rendon Labrador / Pingris /Rico Maierhofer saga. The latest is that Rico's PBAmotoclub is offering a prize money of P10 mil between a matchup between Rendon and Jerwin Gaco or Marc Pingris. I suggest that only P100 k will be given to the winner but the remaining P9.9 mil be given to charity no matter who wins. I would also suggest that SBP and PBA match the P10 mil each and be given to charity. I hope all parties agree,

Real winner in this stunt is this asshole Rendon. He has baited these ex-PBA players, and now, the engagement in his social media platforms has increase a thousand-fold. Negative comments can still be monetize.

FR. Laway lang puhunan but he gets to rake in the cash because those people can't control their pride. He has nothing to lose but those PBA guys for sure would be clowned for life if the game is even closer than expected..

Are the epal senators needed to act as medium for this gilas drama?
Reason being is that it should be the SBP’s job to provide the emergency meeting bet stakeholders, PBA, college leagues and other parties. But, It’s the PBA controlling SBP’s action and decision.
PH Senate’s job is too focus on what’s “in” and hot topics including showbiz scandals, etc lol

Despite the PBA expressing its "willingness" to lend its players to the national team, I still want that more & more Pinoy quality players that would play in overseas pro leagues, in particular B-league & KBL.

That's becoz while the PBA is willing to take a 3-month break next year to give Gilas the needed preparation for the 2023 World Cup, but how about the other FIBA tournaments in the future like the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup? Would the PBA take a break to give way to Gilas participation in the next FIBA Asia Cup? I'm affraid it won't. Did the PBA bother to lend its players for this year's FIBA Asia Cup?

I say the PBA is only willing to lend its players & take a break to give way Gilas stint in the 2023 FIBA World Cup only becoz of the hype behind it. PBA just wants to ride on the World Cup bandwagon.

Wag na tayong maglukohan, PBA isn't really sincere in supporting our national team. It is willing to make a sacrifice only for the well hyped tournament like the World Cup & maybe the Olympics, but for lower hyped FIBA tournaments like the FIBA Asia Cup, PBA doesn't find it wise to make a sacrifice for the national team.

My point here is that, come 2025 FIBA Asia Cup, we would be left with the B-league, KBL Pinoy players & hopefully Kai Sotto & AJ Edu as the players that would be available for Gilas. That is why I would rather see marque players like Malonzo, Oftana, Iskati Thompson, etc. to leave the PBA & instead bring their acts in either the B-league or the KBL.

Cue the dinosaurs at SBP disallowing Filipino players from going overseas or risk getting barred from the PBA, and THEN select only PBA players for the national team once the SMC group (especially Long Hair) and their friends from the old BAP take over. GGWP, back to the dark ages where the basketball federation prioritizes the Asian Games over FIBA-sanctioned competitions, except there won't be anything like the Paranaque Jets to save us this time.

Its Fibas fault on making FIBA Asia Cup a least interesting tournament to join in..

Imho, the victims (in this Rendon vs PBA drama) are the fans (mostly the socmed users). Vloggers/Influencers/Celebrities were good of selling this drama in public. They’re prolly good friends off-cam(who knows?).
This drama also re-direct the fans to criticize some people and let the Gilas-Chot-PBA-SBP issues to go away for now.

For me personally, I am not mad nor surprised the name of Balti was not included in that proposed 23 pool(?) for the 5th and 6th windows because the mere fact that the dude is a newly on-board employee hence it’s not ideal to put his name on the list considering Hiroshima Dragonflies are dead serious to improve their standing this season, let’s respect that. Besides the real deal is WC2023 and we as a fan are already sold that DDO sr. will manned the team wether we like it or not.

The versatile standout will be ready to work with Gilas anew if he gets another call-up.
“If they call and ask for my help, I will gladly participate with Gilas.”

No, Kume, it doesn't work like that. And no, Filipino players are not your property.

You really want Pinoy players to stay in the PBA? Add more teams, adopt the NBA's home and away system, stop hoarding the best talent into one team, stop lopsided trades, match the offers from other countries LEGALLY and NOT under the table, AND play the young guys. Fuck seniority, if they're good, they're good, if they're bad, they're bad.

But no, you had to go to Japan to basically beg the B-League to stop "poaching" THEIR precious players.

How the PBA keeps these players is simple. Allow for direct hires and remove the salary cap.

Doesn't that just imbalance the league more? SMC and MVP teams can just offer players millions of pesos... to stay on the bench as they hoard the best ones. Other companies who own teams in the PBA don't have the same purchasing power these two companies have.

Yes no easy way out for the PBA. But thats the advantage KBL/BLeague/Taiwan bring. Not necessarily the salary cap part but definitely the direct hires. It really depends on the direction the PBA wants to go.

Baka nga mas mabuti yun. They let the league kill itself and let a new one emerge. I don't get how they have the guts to call out poaching (maybe only for the case of kiefer) for players that do really not play for them or don't have live contracts(lalo na when panlillo states the ateneo case). I don't get why pba and gilas see the exodus of players to more competitive leagues (yes olats na ang pba) is a problem for philippine basketball. They can have national team clauses, buyouts, etc to have compensation for their players leaving for foreign leagues. It's their problem to fix how to entice players to stay on, not penalize players. So set in their crooked ways these people are.

You need to realize salary cap is there to limit rich teams from overspending (like tenfold over the smaller teams)

Strictly reinforce salary caps but also increase it if possible/ limit under the table deals if also possible.

What you're suggesting only makes it
a) easier for top teams to just get top players/rookies (no more lopsided trades needed)
b) more freedom for rich teams to get loaded lineups from starters to bench warmers.

Direct hires can be feasible but they need to strictly reinforce salary cap or pba will just turn out like la liga or premier league for example (dominated by rich clubs i.e. oil giants)
