Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

I read your comments in TBT. You said there that Ateneo is an overhyped team and Tab is also overhyped. You even said there that he has this superiority complex and he is disliked by many coaches here in the country. By reading those comments of yours, it's obvious you hate Tab Baldwin.

So I am not surprised if you say that let Chot do the job basically because (1) you hate Tab; and (2) you are a diehard fan of TNT.

Just ignore him, he's really either a troll or a big idiot. I'm willing to bet its the latter or an idiot trying to be a troll.

The value of scottie in Gilas.

I consider him an upgrade over belanguel or abarientos

It just too much overhype from Tab even on tune up games, while UP doing the same but no hype... Let's see on UAAP... I'm also a UP fan since my relatives and some of my friends are UP alumnus... They were ignored even they are the champs... They still feel Ateneo and Tab always have the hype even they lose...

upon admitting here that you are a UP as well, then just shows your bias there. again, there is nothing wrong about losing games, even with Chot. it's the way we lose those games and the attitude of Chot towards the Gilas is what we don't like. Fans want certainty - a right direction. That's what they see on Tab.

If it was Goldwyn handling Gilas, maybe the fans will calm down.

Scottie has a chance. He needs more reps though. Also, leaving his man to challenge or rebound in the paint is dangerous if the ball gets to his man.

What kind of direction. If asking getting best player PBA and Uaap and other leagues to adjust to FIBa, Nenad already said its hard to do even in other countries. I would love it but its really difficult. Even US basketball has that problem with NBA. Can we asked NBA to let JC play with us in window games.

Look at Japan, they got destroyed more by their competition than us. Yet you don't see drama.

Guys, is it possible that Fortsky Padrigao becomes a Gilas cadet prospect 2 years from now? I know a lot of people are turned off with him with the way he played for Batang Gilas some years ago. But it seems coach Tab has successfully "tamed" Padrigao & has developed him into a reliable point guard. Padrigao is what, a 6-foot-1 natural point guard? That's a good size PG. Something Phi basketball doesn't have in abundance.

Nope, chot reyes and padrigao together is a disaster waiting to happen. An out of control point guard and a coach who lets guards do whatever they want.

Kid cn get better. Like Castro, was once a rookie who had limited skill setsand poor decision makinh

You picked the perfect example of a team with a good "direction": Japan which has good structure and program.

Example is their youth team, managed by competent people that is why they are one of the best in Asia. While we have an incompetent coach (who is only there because of his father clinging to a rather moot glory from the past) who goes into a zone against a team shooting well from 3 ( I called it right after the Qatar game when that idiot didn't even experiment with a zone when Qatar was keeping it close with their drives then he used it against Lebanon, talk about stupid)

Now you got the egotistic federation, back when Tab was handling Gilas there was real hope and it showed when we can be competitive even against Serbia, now its someone who is just full of bs excuses who can't even have half of what Tab brings in terms of having a system.

Tab even proved he can compete with some of the better teams in the world with no players from PBA so that should not really be the biggest concern , its clearly the ones in SBP and the current coach who are the real problem.

Also fyi: Japan destroyed us in Asia Cup so I don't see why they should be the ones complaining LOL

Japan has been very organized in forming their national team since the lifting of their suspension.

Although most of them came from different B.League, they have a walkthrough with how things are working under Hovasse and Lamas before that even a 2-3 weeks of preparation is enough. Another thing is Tom Hovasse is a fulltime coach - very different from Chot Reyes, who last sunday was coaching TNT then, the day after, was coaching Gilas.

You like to compare result right we keep losing. Japan also keep on losing and loss to China big. While China loss to Lebanon.
Yes their youth is doing good but we talking about senior team. We lost to Japan with our Gilas being a more younger team against Japan pro with an NBA player, Naturalized and one NCAA. Thou NBa player got injured. Yet this team can't beat China. Isnt that a problem. If they can't beat China. Who will they beat in WC

They are 2 - 4 in Windows worst than PHL bit no one is making it a bigger issue like Nenad thinks we are doing here.

I have no problem with full time coach. But what is his performance. Has Japan improved? If not, good for Japanese fans not over reacting to the losses like us

Hairboy lately under Tab is more disciplined and watching their game against the Israeli pros, his shot selection is much better and he shares the ball more lol.But who knows if goes back to Chot,if he might act like an addict on a relapse, hair all over his face, won't pass to the big man, dribble panic, shoots the ball whenever he feels like it,etc.

Yeah, that's the word - reps. Iskati needs reps just as PBA guys like Malonzo, Oftana, Adams, Newsome, others need more FIBA game reps so as to get used to the FIBA game atmosphere which is different from PBA game. These players need to get the feel of the FIBA game. That's why it is crucial that these players would be able to play for Gilas in the 5th & 6th windows for exposure. The thing is, the roles that these players would be doing with Gilas might be different from the roles that they play in their respective PBA teams, hence they need to adjust. And its a big adjustment actually.

You are the one who brought up results in the first place. Stop giving false leads on the issue.

I pointed out Japan having good structure top to bottom a lot better than ours, can you really deny that? If you'll say otherwise then you're clearly stupid.

I already said despite the losses they still have a good structure, meaning a direction to improve. If your brain can't process that then there is no point talking with you.

Japan is losing to China and the other strong teams, yet they decimated us. So it just means they are facing better teams or they are not bringing their best team because they are already qualified and you saw someone like watanabe can play for them on the main tournaments.

I don't see a reason why they should be complaining when they are clearly better than us. You seriously think Japan can't beat up India and Saudi? The only teams we have beaten? lol even China destryoed Indonesia by some 50 points when Indonesia beat us haha

Japan is top heavy. Without Yuta or Rui, they arent special. With those two Id think they're the favorite for best asian team.

Well they away our top 2 players and we get a repeat of the Indonesia game.

You the one that said, Japan beat us so your the one who brought up the result. Without analuzing we were a younger team and one PBA pro. While they have a Naturalized player, NBA player and B. League players. Should that make us underdogs

What structure, keep changing lineups every single windows for learning experience. But if we do it Pinoys go crazy stupid. Is that structure?

Compare China were thwy lost big so many times in this period. Yet we only loss to Lebanon on its hometown by 4. So who is better against top level competition.

his turnovers were eyesore.

but with more practice and exhibition games, he'll get better as a playmaker in gilas.

still, i prefer a sure fire shooter who is as good or even a better passer in bolick.

especially if chris and kiefer are ur other pgs.
