okay naman but sj had 10 assist are we sure kiefer will not unleash his mamba side when he is pg ing the team..
Calling a spade a spade whos ethe lead guard of fiba 2019 world cup team...if you really murder thatteam in ibn bakit di yun lead guard simpleng pasa nga lang kay blatch sa top of the key sa angola di pa nagawa

mamba mentality has two types, the black mamba mentality and in pinoy terms mamba bakal mentality:cool:

Kiefer was out of shape & out of competitive form during the 2019 World Cup becoz of long lay off from basketball. Then you got an ill-prepared & ill coached team, its just natural that everything will look messy. Compounding effect yun bro eh.

No one is saying Gilas has no talent, it is the extent of talent , both the level and volume of talent. As i said there are level to this..

Thailand Indonesia or Malaysia is obviously not as talented as the Philippines. ( there are available metrics to show we simply have a greater number of players at a certain level.. (e.g. Div 1 or pro overseas offers) , but that doesn't mean we cannnot and have not lost to a SEA team.

It is simply the same for the teams with more notable players over the Philippines , they simply have more players of a certain level (e.g. Div 1 rotation level talent) yet it is very possible that they can still lose to the Philippines, quit using instances of a team losing , that can happen , the worst team in the NBA can lose to the top, any team can have one offs' like NZ top 4 in the world, but at the end of the day if you want to use results , use consistency ,.. all the results and average it out.. and here is the bottom line.. Asian team in the OQT are zero wins and 18 losses , with an average losing margin of over 20 pts ! one cannot ignore that.

NZ is not a top 15 nation in terms of player talent, yet in 20 years it at the world level- Olympics , OQT and World cup, it has a 50 % winning % and have beaten top 15 teams in world over a dozen times already .
So Tab and company are right we have enough talent if prepared to win some games vs top 15 teams. ( do not put words in my mount suggesting i am saying anything different)

I am not using losing. We have been competitive with proper preparation. Stop living in the 2002 on NZ, hasn't.beat any top teams in a serious games past decade. Even in 2006 WC, they only beat Japan and Panama to get to the rounds of 16. They have not have a .500 standing in 1st round for such a long time.

It's a breath of fresh air- when we've discovered these 4 wings - Dwight, Heading, Thirdy and Navarro, 2 great centers- Ange and Kai, 2 good forwards- Carl and Baltazar... lot's to be optimistic about, a year ago we could not say the same

confused ? the post wasn't about NZ or even winning or losing records. bTW NZ? - they beat Australia twice, ( one in FiBA Oceania) , beat Turkey , Motengro (2019 WC), Italy in tourney before WC (2019) beat Canada and France (WC 2010) , Beat Russia ( 2011 Stankovic cup) , that's 5 Ws vs 5 different teams in the top 15 in last decade but why bother , this wasn't about NZ..

As per research by some of our fellow posters here at IBN showing that the Dominican Republic players play as imports in various pro leagues all over the world, one question is worth pondering: How come the Dominican Republic team is cohesive enough despite the fact that its players play in the pro leagues of various countries & therefore could not train full time with the national team?

The simple answer is, these players get to assemble, train, & play in their national team during the off season of the respective pro leagues that they play, which is during tge months of July, Aug. Sept. & they do this on a yearly basis.

^^ for a youth and senior team to be successful, our local leagues should also have an off season aligned that can accomodate practices

Here's me hoping that this setback esp against the Dominican Republic won't stir the Gilas program back to the PBA all-star hugot. The team is barely 2 years old and the line up is continuing to change. I hope they CONSTANTLY add young people to pool to ensure contuity for decades to come

I said serious, maybe the Australia, heir best of 3 games.

The rest are friendlies which means experimentation not serious.

WC 2019

Out of contention win from eliminated teams which means not that serious,

Montenegro is not top 20 or last seed Euro.

WC 2010

France without their top 5 players

Young Canada team who were last placer. Those teams didn't advance to the quarterfinals.

This is pursuant to my above post:

With that in mind, I'm thinking that the best solution for that challenging goal of forming a cohesive & highly competitive national team would be for the PBA to change its calendar that would make its off season in the months of July, August & September & also to reduce its season to only around 8 & a half months.

Let's face it, 4 years from now, most of our current Gilas cadet members would be in the PBA. Guys like Baltazar, Dwight Ramos, Tamayo, Abarrientos, 1GDL, Javi GDL, Kobe P.,etc. would probably in the PBA by 2025. The shitty anti-dodging rule by tge PBA is going to discourage these players from playing in overseas leagues.

Now here's my point, what if during the PBA off season (July, Aug., Sept) these players will be recalled for national team training & play in some international competitions like Jones Cup & orhers? The thing is, these players would be well assimilated with coach Tab's system & have already established chemistry while playing with Gilas while they were still amateurs. It would be like they would just undergo some refresher of coach Tab's system which is already ingrained in their memories.

This of course is with the assumption that si Tab pa rin ang Gilas coach some 4 years from now.

Just a thought: maybe the SBP can come up and sell official merchandise, and that the proceeds will go to salaries for people who join the NT. Maybe, some financial incentive can help keep the pool intact

Lets just stop and think reality. Wil PBA change for the sake 9f NT

Yun lang naman yung formula ng halos lahat ng national teams ng other countries. That their respective leagues' calendars are syncronized with FIBA & other international competitions that is why yung off season ng liga nila eh during the months of July, Aug. & Sept. And of course their leagues run for a shorter season.

Now imagine if say 4 years from now, guys like Baltazar, Tamayo, 1GDL, Thirdy, Kobe P, Navarro, Matt Nieto, RJ Abarrientos, Javi GDL, Oftana, Heading, etc. are already PBA players & they train with Gilas during the PBA season. Then they are joined by Kai (who probably wud be in the NBA by that time), Kouame & AJ Edu (both probably playing as imports elsewhere) in the Gilas training & stint in international competitions. Now imagine if this is done on a yearly basis.

This is how we keep this current Gilas team intact & cohesive even if most of its players are already in the PBA.

^^ Maybe it would be easier for the SBP to talk to the NCAA and UAAP over PBA over having a synchronized schedule. I think the PBA is hopeless when if comes to getting them to have a real off season

Lets stop and think reality. Will PBA change for he betterment of NT.

Well, I'm just hoping that since its now becoming very clear that the "hugot" system with an "all-star game" like preparation would never work & with this ongoing pandemic which makes staging a long PBA season very difficult & impractical, PBA people might consider this idea. I know its improbable, but who knows?

Here is way we should look at it , Gilas, China and Korea last 2 weeks played around 6 games each , who looks the best of the 3 ?

who is the most promising ?

yes we realize we are not world mid tier level yet ( like DR) .. but we're one of the best Asian teams using college kids !

Now you're optimistic about these guys. These guys have potential, but man. I hope that translates to a semis appearance or at least 5th in the FIBA Asia Cup.

Basta ako, I'm happy for our team. The kids will come out stronger. Their bawi should be the FIBA-ASIA Cup. However, I hope they won't be conceited in thinking that because this is ASIA ay they are sure winners already.

Hope they would focus on their ultimate goal, to reach the 2nd round or even quarters of the 2023 WC.

^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^

Well, if there's one positive this ugly loss to DR has brought to our team, then its to be that its a humbling experience. A bitter reminder to the players that much work are still to be done & that they are still far from the best team in Asian basketball
