I really dont get this...Havent we tried this PBA route already....remember in 2018, we had Clarkson, Standhardinger, Pringle, Anhamissi, Norwood, Paul Lee, James Yap, Erram, Almazan, Taulava, Belga, Abueva etc.....and we ended only 5th.....partida na since Australia, New Zealand and Jordan did not participate.......basta, we shouldnt get involved any PBA players not coach because they will only be using PBA style of playing.

Would we become better now since Choke Reyes is the coach???

we need a foreign coach, local coaches could only do so much

At least if they don't want a foreign coach as the HC,then get a local coach who can be the face of the team, but the schemes will be run by the foreign coach.Jong will be a good candidate, love and trusted by players and very flexible in running other coaches schemes and has a winning attitude.

What we need is our local coaches having an open mind to learn new schemes and strategies. As coach Tab said and it drew a lot of flak, our local coaches are tacticaly immature. Man our coaches went mad and this and that but oops.

we need a more experienced FIBA coach. more experienced than CCR at the very least. we should not care if local or foreign. just so happen we know no local coach who has that credential over CCR. but to be specific of what we need, experience over nationality or citizenship.
maybe coach Jong? wasnt he an asst to Coach Toroman, CCR, and CTB?

I have just finished watching the interview with Al Panlilio. Here are a couple of my takes:
1. Panlilio is placing the blame squarely on Coach Tab Baldwin for declining to coach the February 2022 window. And that the SBP had no choice but to appoint another coach. They appointed Coach Chot Reyes who, incidentally, was also recommended by Coach Tab Baldwin himself.
2. Panlilio also lauded Coach Chot Reyes for accepting the job in spite of knowing that there were very few players available for the window. Pointedly, he said that "Pilipino siya (Chot) siay, e."

That was back in February. Since then, Coach Chot Reyes was the coach that led Gilas to a devastating loss to New Zealand (60-106) in the Jne 2022 qualifying window, an historic loss to Indonesia in the SEAG and failure to finish in the top 8 in the FIBA Asia Cup with a dismal record of 1-3 record. Why is the SBP sticking with this coach with this pathetic record of failure?

From what I've heard, coach Tab asked SBP that he would skip the February 2nd window as Gilas head coach so as to take a brief rest or so that he can focus as head coach of the Ateneo Blue Eagles. Meaning, coach Tab just wanted to take a brief break as Gilas head coach & he would be back as such very soon. But it seemed Al Panlilio interpreted coach Tab's decision in a very negative way at kung ano-ano ang pinagsasabi which somewhat offended coach Tab, which compelled the latter to resign as Gilas head coach.

Please somebody correct me if I got this wrong.

his brother was sick during that time if I'm not mistaken. yeah, someone here probably followed CTB during that time and can clarify.

I would say it’s because Tab and Al were never in good terms. You have it from Al’s own words: the matter was between Tab and MVP.

Tab and MVP were always the ones having deals. Never Al. I believe it’s more of an ego problem because Al is the SBP president and he doesn’t feel respected by Tab. The fact that Tab went to MVP and not Al must have upset the latter, so Al took the opportunity to oust Tab.

Ousting Al Panlilio from SBP is almost as crucial as ousting Choke Reyes as Gilas head coach. Philippine basketball doesn't need termites in its house. I hope both these termites will be eliminated soon.

Is MVP still has power to ask them(either Chot of Al P) to step down in their post?

Choke Reyes and Al Panlilio are worse than Yeng Guiao

At least Yeng Guiao owned up to the poor performance in the WC and resigned while Choke Reyes and Panilio aren't embarassed that they lost to Indonesia and almost lost to Thailand in the lowly SEA Games with a good number of PBA player.

Their denseness is unbelievable.

I think Chot will never resign and only a firing will suffice. My guess is its a matter of principle to him. Never turn your back to the country.

the next question there is, if we remove Al and eventually CCR, will the replacement have enough time to revamp his team(management), and hit the ground running enough to have a formidable, well trained team by next year?

that switch last Feb was really really damaging. if you remove people before August window, is there time to build a team to send? if you remove after the window, where will they get players since college and PBA would be ongoing? any new leadership would have to talk to all stakeholders including the groups outside the country. if they replace Al with another PBA personality, will that person retain everything and just be a new face? too many questions and all needs some time t be answered. bad trip tlaga.

As much as we want both Chot and Panlilio to go its more complicated than that since Al also runs (and heads) some of the MVP corp. Panlilio has all the trust and confidence of MVP to put it simply. For them its a minor setback, something that can be fixed by throwing more funds (thus the Clakrson & Kai assurances) they figured all fans want to see is a semblance of success and star power and they'll give them exactly that. Imagine us winning all games on the next window against west asian countries convincingly with Kai & JC along with the newly eligibles in tow then all will be forgiven. They know exactly how to handle the mob as they say

He had the balls to step down after the 2018 brawl. So maybe another would do the trick? /s

Honestly, why do I get GarPax Bulls vibes or Kings vibes from this current SBP direction?

I hope I'm wrong, though.

Four and a half months later, I still get this feeling from SBP management as to the direction of the men's team.

Let's say for argument sake we win over Lebanon in 4th window cause of the brilliance of Clarkson (hugot import) and new PBA hugots

It begs the question, then what was all cohesion development from 2020 to 2022 July for , ? ( Two and half years of fooling around with no whatsoever value for 2023), what kind of program is that? That's basically buying wins to be honest.
.

When one is incapable of leading, and they recognize it, it's best to step down and that's the "malasakit" one can give

A big victory of Gilas over Lebanon at Beirut will erase all of big losses that Chot & SBP did this year... Imagine we beat the reigning silver medalist of recently concluded FIBA Asia? Dagdag Pogi points sa kanila yun.... Parang sinabi na din that we have a chance to get a medal if all of needed players are available...

That’s not really a victory. More of a saving face tactic.
