Philippines Senior National Team Thread Vol. V

If somebody explains to FIBA about this shitty anti-dodging rule by the PBA, FIBA people would realize that such rule is counter productive to FIBA's advocacy of promoting good basketball development program among member countries. We all know that this anti-dodging rule is an anti-national team & pro-SMC move by the PBA. No need to elaborate, everyone here knows what I'm implying.

Everything is looking good as far as Phi basketball is concerned with the current Gilas program under coach Tab. But with PBA ready to mess things up with Phi basketball, this Gilas program is really under threat.

I say this once again, PBA is the biggest burden of Phi basketball.

I see the PBA (specially SMC empire) as the No. 1 enemy of our current Gilas program. Nothing will make me happier than to see PBA collapses with no chance of recovery. The more I love Phi basketball, the more I hate the PBA & SMC evil empire.

The problem doesn't just root with SMC. It is actually all of the PBA board because they are all the decision makers in the PBA. It didn't help that SBP the governing body were also pirating players from teams who were very eager to lend their players. The SMC hoarding the talent shouldn't be an excuse both MVP and SMC groups were basically playing dirty in everything. If we target the PBA, we should target the PBA governors. I think it is easier to deal with the team owners than them. It is really corporate politics and greed that is the prevalent culture in how majority of businesses were run in our country.

easily. the PBA is the #1 answer to "What does the Philippine team need to watch out for?"

:) Maybe we replace the so called "Korean Curse" with "PBA Curse"

At least yung China, Korea, Iran, Japan, Lebanon, etc., they could only beat us inside the basketball court, PBA on the other hand could mess up Gilas even before Gilas players step inside the playing court.

If only there is an alternative league which could offer the same financial security as the PBA. Too bad the other local leagues are probably worse managed than the PBA

Is that possible?

An alternative league where companies like Jolibee, Ayalas, Razons, Aboitiz, and the likes can join?

If ever, Does it not like pba 2.0?

And their level of competition is way way way way below than what one desires. You don't want your national team players to come from those leagues, do you?

I honestly dunno. But the other local leagues are way way worse than the PBA. So they really don't have a choice but to join the league eventually.

Question is, do tycons like the Razons, Ayalas, Gokongweis, Aboitiz, Tans, Caktiong want to invest in a basketball pro league specially in these difficult & turbulent times?

The problem is the PBA was borne out of its team owners desire to prioritize their commercial league over national duties. Fed up with their players being pulled for national duties some team owners of MICAA formed the PBA. But it seems that paradigm is old. It grew from an environment were Filipino players participated in international games sparingly. Pinoys were delusional that were the best in Asia and enjoyed PBA games. However, since then Pinoy basketball has been unmasked. We are not the best in Asia. Even with the best Filfors we could not be the best in Asia. The only way we were able to win against the top Asian countries was in naturalizing centers. Even then, eventually even with Blatche we were losing embarassingly.

It is only now that Tab has shown how Pinoys can be the among the best in Asia again and possibly even the world. It is by training players to have skills that they can compete in internationally for their height. However, the PBA runs counter to it. Coddling our best players in the PBA. Treating them like superstars. Limiting competition by limiting import heights and to only one conference of 3. Adjusting calls to favor some teams or players. Forcing home growns to be drafted or be banned.

I'm hoping the rookie salary increase is the start for PBA to improve to match international standards. The former MICAA owners cannot keep on closing their eyes to the world. Even Ginebra fans can only take so much of international ineptitude.

Speaking of alternative league.

: A New Basketball league created by a former PBA and UAAP star, recently got approved by the SBP as an official member.

Sources say that this new league will strictly adhere to FIBA officiating in it's games.⁣

The creation of the league was inspired due to recent controversies in Philippines Basketball.

If the PBA does not want to lend players to the NT, fine. They should just shut up and not try to take a piece of the pie when an amateur squad wins internstional games. So they should shut up with "you need PBA players"

Grabe din si kouame we definitely naturalized the right player.

Baltazar and tamayo our sf is secured with these two.

Kai is the future i expect him to dominate 2 to 3 years from now.

RJ this kid never played a single college game ivreally really like his game we all want a tall PG but hard to ignore a potential and talent like him.

Navarro is really really good wing defender but he should improve his offensive game.

Heading his 3pt accuracy is impressive. Hoping he can develop to a true PG.

Mike and Go this two should be replaced Wala talaga potential na mapipiga sa Kanika but i appreciate their effort.

SJ ok Sana kaso offensive mentality Kung mag keep ako Ng 1 small guard i Will choose RJ mas may potential may Matt nieto pa

Dwight our top player no doubt na dito.

Geo chiu hoping madevelop natin to.

If we can get Aj Edu, panopio and ravena brothers in this program sooner and with Jordan Clarkson in 2023 I'm really excited how strong our team will be solid!

And we should don't forget Dave ildefonso and Kobe Paras, JGDL etc iba Yung talent pool natin ngayon malalim.

Its difficult to keep together ateam especially if good talents come along

Man, I hope we're able to keep this team together, and I hope we can add more.

It's crucial that some of these guys are able to play overseas so as not to affect their availability for FIBA tournament propers. I hope this OQT will get some of our guys offers from overseas.

tab has good connection with other international coaches. hoping some teams would get notice in players like ange carl and balti

Hopefully, Tab can use his connection to get overseas job security for Baltazar and Tamayo (and some of the others too) so that they can continue to develop their game abroad, even with a threat of a ban from the PBA.

for now for sure tab wont do that as these two are still connected to their schools. maybe after they used up their eligibility or if they decide it themselves.

Ouch! Would this context be included in what tactical immaturity means?

i was trying to pin point what it is with RJ that i like, I think it's the Jason Castro potential.. the speed and RJ's ability to get off his shot..

https://www.facebook.com/tiebreakertimes/posts/2514776322000501

Here's my take on RJ:

In an much as I'd like to have "pass-first" type of point guards in Gilas, I think a highly skilled PG like RJ Abarrientos is serviceable to Gilas. RJ is just too skilled & not to mention too gutsy a player to be ignored. I mean, how could you not admire the guts & confidence this kid has in his game? You can sense the confidence & composure he has in himself with the way he carries himself inside the playing court. Of course, he showed some immaturity & the over eagerness to score at times, but isn't that expected from a 21-year old first timer in the FIBA senior level competition?

I say, moving forward, as RJ gets more experience in high level basketball & playing under coach Tab's system, he'll learn to become more prudent & disciplined with his game.

I say this: yung immaturity ni RJ sa kanyang game is nowhere near to the "tactical" immaturity of most of our local coaches in the PBA:cool::cool:

With the impressive performance of the young guns, I hope that the SBP will stand by it and not let the PBA interference revert the program back to the PBA All-Star hugot
